I did enjoy the almost panicked disclaimers from the Bar Council:

A spokeswoman for the council declined to state whether the body stood by McGahey’s comments, but said that any guidance from the ethics helpline was not legal advice and that the body accepted no responsibility or liability for any action taken in reliance on it. She added that the council, which has never been a member of Stonewall’s Diversity Champions scheme, had not sought or received advice from the charity.

A BIG BOY DONE IT AND RUN AWAY!

Terfydactyl · 02/06/2022 11:18

said that any guidance from the ethics helpline was not legal advice and that the body accepted no responsibility or liability for any action taken in reliance on it

So the point of this whole council is???
A helpline set up for legal people doesn't give legal advice.
WTF

Maybe I'm being thick (wouldn't be the first time) but I didn't understand why the helpline got mentioned by the Bar Council at all.

How did the relevant Head of Chambers contact the Bar Council? Was it via a personal contact and prior acquaintance or initially via the helpline?

EmbarrassingHadrosaurus · 02/06/2022 00:25

I have to admit that was not a comparison I was expecting to see on here.

Would that be because you suspect barristers' clerks are thin on the ground in this thread unless we're discussing their fervent assurances that they never gossip and only discuss football when they exchange social and bonding chitchat amongst themselves and in playful not at all awkward banter with the male barristers?

No, it was more the fact that one of their most commonly sung chants has the refrain "No-one likes us, we don't care", which doesn't strike me as particularly fitting for most TRAs.

Mumsnet has more balls than Millwall. Does anyone else remember that from 2018, when one of the feminist events was meant to be held at Millwall & they chickened out? Can’t remember which one but it was at a time when Justine had just dared to defy the Misogynist Monitors.

@SidewaysOtter

In a jar!!

I was just contemplating the feasibility of making a Jaffa cake look like a twix finger ….

I do remember that, Empress. It was a real eye-opener for me. I used to live quite close to Millwall!

Oh God I still say
More balls than millwall, when its justified obviously.
DP laughs at it, but hes no idea where it came from. Bless him.

IcakethereforeIam · 02/06/2022 23:07

I read this today and it irritated me, two beardy guys deciding, over dinner, that tw, meh!

www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2022/jun/02/dining-across-the-divide-labour-tory-brexit-corruption-jk-rowling

I need to stop picking that Guardian scab, it's never going to heal.

Also an article about abortion/religious clash that only uses the word 'woman' in a quote. Whilst, at the top of the page, several articles about how women have their health problem dismissed. See the NHS does know what women are! Even if it's just to know who to ignore and neglect.

I didn't want to start new threads for any of these, I don't think they'd make useful discussions. But I wanted to put them somewhere, like coughing up a furball.

Feel better now.

Sorry.

TheBiologyStupid · 02/06/2022 23:18

Oh God, someone completely ignorant of the JKR stuff gets educated by someone who spends his time playing toy soldiers? I feel a furball of my own coming up!

SidewaysOtter · 03/06/2022 00:10

@MooseBeTimeForSnow I can’t have that stuff in the house. It’s the crack cocaine of sugary goods!

Pluvia · 03/06/2022 09:38

That article demonstrates how misinformation and badly-argued ideas spread.

BIWI · 03/06/2022 10:25

I have to say, as a regular Guardian reader, I always bypass that feature as quickly as possible. Just a showcase for views that can be extreme and sometimes abhorrent.

ThinkWittyThoughts · 03/06/2022 11:30

I just had a cheeky Bourbon biscuit or two and thought of the thread.

I'm alarmed to see we're at 940 posts already. @ickky have you got the next thread ready? Do you think we could fill 1000 posts of biscuit & Jaffa cake chat before 20 June?

AlisonDonut · 03/06/2022 12:18

I just had 2 TUC biscuits and here I am.

I spent far too long in the polytunnel and I've had to come in and get changed. Too hot.

OnlyLosersTakeTheBus · 03/06/2022 12:20

I must have done the Tesco online shop that arrived yesterday under the influence of this thread. There's Tunnocks tea cakes, chocolate hobnobs, jaffa cakes, blood orange and chocolate shortbread, chocolate fingers and a Maya mug. No support twixes though.

IdisagreeMrHochhauser · 03/06/2022 12:39

I'm a bit annoyed by the biscuit chat. I only come here for hard nosed legal business. I hope @ickky is keeping an eye on the post count. I'm getting antsy again.

ickky · 03/06/2022 15:36

Of course I am keeping an eye. O ye of little faith. Grin

Marking place with coffee-dunked Lotus biscuit.

BoreOfWhabylon · 03/06/2022 16:36

Gah! Marked place on wrong thread!

ickky · 03/06/2022 17:01

@BoreOfWhabylon That means you have to have another biscuit to placemark on the new thread.

OP posts:
Emotionalsupportviper · 03/06/2022 17:09

Does it have to be another coffee-dunked Lotus biscuit, @ickky ?

Could it be dunked in tea instead?

ickky · 03/06/2022 17:25

Any hot libation of your choice will do @Emotionalsupportviper ☕🍵
