"La Croix du Vieux Pont is a fab site around 90 mins from Paris and 2.5/3 hrs drive from Calais. It has a swimming lake with a beach plus lots of pools. Two of mine have asd and we’ve been there many times, my 25 year old is suggesting going back there next year."

Our verdict

Just 90 minutes from the centre of Paris you’ll find the fantastic La Croix du Vieux Pont campsite, run by Eurocamp’s sister company Marvilla Parks. It’s a big, lively site with loads to do to keep the whole family happy, including fishing, crazy golf, football, and basketball.

There are four swimming pools to choose from, one of which has a retractable roof so you can swim in all weather conditions, and the outdoor pool has two twisty waterslides to keep thrill-seekers happy. Prefer a bit of a slower pace? You’ll love the lazy river, waterfalls, and Jacuzzi. And for young children there’s a great kids’ pool and a spray park.

The site also offers kids’ clubs for children up to 17 years, and there are family activity sessions you can all join in with too.

"We have Eurocamped for 12 years now. For little ones, we've loved and returned a couple of times to both Camping Bel in the Vendee. We drove, but didn't need or use cars there at all. Prices drop drastically at the end of August so we used to go late. Very toddler/small child friendly. We stayed in tents at Bel. We found Eurocamp offers brilliant independence, in terms of self catering etc, but support from couriers, for example helping us rebook a cancelled ferry etc."

Our verdict

Bel Campsite is a small, family-run parc and compared to a lot of other Eurocamp sites, it’s peaceful and quiet. There’s a lovely pool area that’s great for younger kids, and a fantastic Scandinavian-style playground for them to play in too.

For older kids there are plenty of activities like tennis, table tennis, basketball, and a gym, as well as everything that’s offered as part of the kids’ club.

The closest town to the site is La Tranche Sur Mer, where you’ll find a large supermarket to stock up on supplies and a great variety of cafes and restaurants.

"Lovely clean site with a great pool area and was a great base from which to explore the area. We visited Monaco, Nice and Saint Tropez from there. The downside of the site was the long walk to the beach which involved crossing a pretty scary busy road. We had a fab holiday though. If driving down to the South I recommend overnighting in Beaun as it's a beautiful town. We've always had a great time on our Eurocamp holidays. They are not exactly luxury but are great value, especially outside of the school holidays or if you get a late deal.”

Our verdict

Holiday Marina is one of those Eurocamp Riviera parcs that you just can't help but love. It's run by a friendly English team and is incredibly pretty and  it's right next to a gorgeous sandy beach. The pool complex is small, with just two pools but this makes it perfect for young families and there is also a Jacuzzi that’s ideal for chilling out in. There's loads of fun stuff for everyone, like a lively kids’ club and all sorts of sports. Situated right by a beautiful marina, it's a great spot for exploring the Riviera. After a day of adventures, kick back with a cool drink on the bar’s terrace and soak in those stunning views. With evening entertainment like discos and karaoke, and a games room for extra fun, it's the kind of place where you can really relax and have a great time.

“Lovely site, fairly small and quiet but next to a sandy beach and a supermarket. There was a shop, bar and restaurant on site and a playground, softplay and swimming pool. Kids club where you could leave over 4s for 2 hours in the morning and afternoon and one evening a week and activities for toddlers. We went in May half term and it did still get chilly at night and although warm, not warm enough to use the unheated pool (though lots of people did).”

“I would recommend dol de Bretagne - lovely park with several swimming pools, a great park and activities like climbing wall and pony riding. Also the village is lovely and we did days out in Dinan and St Malo. Wish I could afford to go again, the kids still talk about their french holidays even though we went a few years ago.”

“Can highly recommend La Garangeoire in Vendee, about 12 km from the coast. It is situated in a huge estate with woods and fields and a fishing lake. Loads of stuff to do, swimming pools, kids club, football, cycling, quite a bit of family evening entertainment, tennis, horse riding. It felt very safe, our 6 year old DS made friends instantly and cycled around the site with them. Barely left the site as there was so much to do.”

“St Avit is lovely - we went 2 years ago with dc aged 4, 5 and 7 and are returning again this May/June. Their pools are great with a lovely toddler splash one and some fun but not scary rubber ring slides - full of parents with little ones on their knees! There's also a really warm tropical type indoor pool if the weather is a bit cool. It is a bit of a drive into Le Bugue, about 15-20 mins on country road, easy though. The local market is also really good, but as with all, get there early!”

Do Eurocamps in France have WiFi?

Eurocamps in France do have WiFi, but check the site you intend to visit for specifics. It may only be available in certain parts of the park and charges may apply.

Can you take dogs to Eurocamps in France?

Generally speaking yes, you can take dogs to Eurocamp sites in France. Check the individual site though. As an example, you can bring your dog along but it must be on a lead at all times at La Croix du Vieux Pont in Berny-Rivière.

What’s included in the price of a Eurocamp stay?

Your Eurocamp stay includes your accommodation, use of the kids’ clubs, and use of the on-site facilities including swimming pools, activities, and entertainment. Meals aren’t included so you’ll need to make your own food or head to the on-site restaurant. Duvets and pillows are generally provided but you’ll need to bring your own linens, or reserve them in advance.

What’s the best Eurocamp in France?

We think that the best Eurocamp site in France for families is La Croix de Vieux Pont in Berny-Rivière. It manages to mix all the best bits of a Eurocamp site with a great location close to Paris and not too far from the Eurotunnel and the ferry port at Calais.

How we chose our recommendations

Because we know that there's nothing like a real recommendation from a fellow parent, we first headed to the Mumsnet forums to find out which Eurocamp sites were being recommended for families.

We then did some research looking at which Eurocamp destinations had won accolades and what customer reviews said about them. We looked at on-site amenities, accommodation options and location. Having collated all that information, we then narrowed our list down to the best Eurocamp sites for families.
