My niece has one [...] It’s massive, it’s garish, it’s eye wateringly expensive for what it is [...] BUT, the look of sheer joy on her face when she came down on Christmas morning was worth all of that. She loves it.

[My daughter] was given the Melissa and Doug wooden ice cream stand when she was 18 months old. She’s now 5 and without a doubt it is her most played with toy. In almost 4 years, barely a day has gone by where I’ve not been force fed wooden ice cream

Black Friday toy deals to expect for 2025

While it’s still early to predict this year’s deals, based on last year’s offers and the current popularity, we’re expecting to see deals on the following:

  • Popular franchises: Expect discounts on toys from major franchises like LEGO, Barbie, Nerf and popular TV/movie tie-ins.

  • Video game consoles: There may be bundle deals on gaming systems like the Nintendo Switch and/or PS5, especially if new versions have been released.

  • Educational toys: STEM-focused toys and learning tablets for kids often see price cuts during Black Friday sales (we anticipate deals on tonies and Yoto, too).

  • Outdoor play equipment: Retailers might offer deals on larger items like playsets or ride-on toys.

  • Board games and puzzles: These family-friendly items are often discounted for the holiday season (for example, Trivial Pursuit and Dobble were popular last year)

  • Interactive pets: Electronic pets and similar interactive toys are likely to be featured in sales.

  • Action figures and dolls: Expect deals on popular character toys from various brands, including Barbie, Paw Patrol, Marvel characters.

  • Arts and crafts kits: Creative play sets often see discounts during this time.

  • Building sets: Construction toys like LEGO, Mega Bloks or K'NEX may have special offers.

  • Tech toys: Discounts on kid-friendly tablets, smartwatches, or coding toys are probable.

What are the top toy trends of 2025?

This year’s best buy lists from retailers so far feature a mix of:

  • Beloved classics (Sylvanian Families, Hot Wheels)

  • On-trend characters (Bluey, Minecraft, Gabby’s Dollhouse)

  • Interactive must-haves (Bitzee, Toniebox 2)

  • Creative play staples (Gui Gui Slime, Build-A-Bear)

  • Collectible crazes (Labubu, Smiski, Wicked Dolls)

As Chantal Pearce, Head of Toy Buying at Argos, explains:

“This year’s top toys reflect the dynamic landscape of play, bringing together world-famous brands, beloved movie characters and highlighting cutting-edge innovation… Families can rely on us to find the coolest toys to gift this Christmas, making it truly special for kids and adults alike.”

How to choose the best toys for your child

With Black Friday approaching, both parents and gift-fivers are searching for the best toy deals. But before diving into the sales, it’s worth considering a few factors to make sure you’re getting the most value out of your money.

Firstly, try to avoid “five-minute wonders”. Those trendy toys based on short-lived fads or gadgets that quickly lose their appeal (we’re looking at you, Fingerlings). Instead, focus on classic toys that have proven staying power, like LEGO or board games, as well as items that encourage creativity and open-ended play. These types of toys are more likely to grow with your child(ren).

Next, prioritise value for money and consider how often the toy you’re buying will be played with. Do this and avoid aiming for a high volume of gifts. Consider the quality and durability of the toy – will it withstand regular play? Is it versatile enough to be used in multiple ways or for different types of play? Look for deals on construction sets that can be rebuilt in various configurations, art supplies that can be used for countless projects, or educational toys that offer ongoing learning opportunities. A single, well-made toy often provides more value than multiple cheaper alternatives.

And lastly, choose toys that can be played with both individually and with friends or siblings. The best toys will be flexible, like board games, building sets and outdoor equipment that can be enjoyed both alone and with others. It’s also worth keeping an eye out for Black Friday toy deals on multiplayer video games that have strong single-player modes, too, as well as playsets and sports that encourage imaginative solo play and social interactions.

What is Black Friday?

Black Friday is an annual shopping event featuring significant discounts on a wide range of products, including toys.

Originally an American tradition, it has gained immense popularity worldwide, particularly in the UK. Occurring on the day after Thanksgiving (the fourth Thursday in November), Black Friday has become one of the year's biggest opportunities for toy bargain hunters, rivalling traditional post-Christmas sales.

When do Black Friday toy deals start?

Black Friday 2025 falls on November 28th, but expect early deals throughout November. Cyber Monday lands on December 1st this year.

In recent years, some retailers have launched Black Friday promotions as early as November 1st.

So, keep your eyes peeled for the entire month to catch the best toy bargains - and remember to keep checking back to this page as we’ll be updating it constantly throughout the month!

Tips for Black Friday and Cyber Monday toy shopping

After years of bringing our Mumsnet users the best toy deals for Black Friday, we’ve learned a trick or two at HQ.

To help you find the best Black Friday toy deals going, here are our top tips for the retail event.

  1. Start early: create a wishlist of toys and start monitoring prices now.

  2. Do your research: know the regular prices of toys to spot genuine deals.

  3. Set a budget: decide on your spending limit before the sales begin.

  4. Bookmark this page: we’ll be updating this page with the best Black Friday toy deals as they become available.

  5. Sign up for newsletters: get early access or exclusive deals from toy retailers.

  6. Use price comparison tools: find the best toy prices across multiple retailers. Look for deals from Amazon, Argos, Very, The Entertainer and major supermarkets like Tesco, Asda and Sainsbury's.

  7. Consider brand-specific deals: watch for discounts on popular toy brands like LEGO, Barbie, Nerf and Fisher-Price

  8. Be ready to act fast: popular toys can sell out quickly. Have your payment details ready.

  9. Check return policies: understand the return policy for sale items, as they may differ from regular purchases.

What is Cyber Monday?

Similar to Black Friday, Cyber Monday is another annual sales day. It's always after the weekend following Black Friday, so this year it is on Monday 1st December.

The deals will continue over the weekend, so the two days often roll into one event. There's not as much of a difference between them now, but originally Cyber Monday was more about online deals, and Black Friday was more of an in-store event.

As shopping habits have dramatically changed since Black Friday began in the US though, there's less of a distinction as Black Friday is also focused on online discounts now too.

Where to find the best deals on Black Friday?

Finding the biggest savings is no easy feat when you're bombarded with so-called 'discounts' from every retailer, but fear not as we'll be working hard to bring you the real deals to look out for. We'll be scouring online shops to bring you the very best guides to Black Friday this year, including the top offers on popular buys.

These are the products we'll be looking out for – bookmark them now so you don't miss the Black Friday deals.
