When is Black Friday 2022?

This year Black Friday falls on Friday 25th November.

Can’t wait to get your fix of the best deals around? Mumsnetters are already sharing their favourite Christmas bargains over on our forums - check out their finds on the latest thread here.

What is Black Friday?

Black Friday is one of the biggest shopping days of the year, when many retailers slash prices in store and online. Much like how the Boxing Day sales follow Christmas Day, Black Friday is usually after the American holiday Thanksgiving. However, many deals start earlier in November, so while the focus is still on the day, there’s actually a larger period of time which the Black Friday sales cover.

In recent years Black Friday has become more popular than ever before in the UK, with many shoppers seeking out deals, especially for Christmas presents at a discount price. There are deals on everything from toys to tech, beauty to baby buys - you can view our Black Friday deals thread from 2021 here to get a sense of the kinds of deals on offer.

What is the history of Black Friday?

The past decade has seen Black Friday become a huge event in the UK, but it wasn't always a big deal over here and famously it began in America. It's thought that the Black Friday sales originated in Philadelphia in 1952, and it's when shops would become 'in the black', instead of 'red', i.e. in debt.

It's only relatively recently that it came across the pond. In 2010 the UK had its first taste of Black Friday courtesy of Amazon, and it has since grown to become one of the most popular sales of the year, making it a worthy rival of the annual Boxing Day and January sales.

What is Cyber Monday?

Cyber Monday is another shopping holiday from the US and, as the name suggests, it’s usually focused on online discounts rather than ones in shops. However, as a lot of Black Friday deals are also found online, there’s not too much difference between the days, but some brands may bring out fresh offers for Cyber Monday.

When is Cyber Monday 2022?

Cyber Monday always falls on the Monday after Black Friday - so this year it will be on 28th November.

How to find the best Black Friday toy deals

“I try and wait for black Friday or the half-term toy sales. I’ve started to write a list so try and look for the cheapest price. I don’t like to get stuff too early.” - stridesy

On the hunt for a toy your child has been coveting for ages or wanting to make a dent into that Christmas present list while saving some money at the same time? We’ll be searching out the best Black Friday toy deals for you, so do bookmark this page and check back as we’ll be updating this page with discounts from different retailers as soon as the Black Friday deals go live from the start of November, as well as sharing the best deals in the lead up and on the day.

We’ll include a large range of toys on this page, covering different ages and budgets, so you’ll be able to find that perfect match for your requirements.

When will Black Friday toy deals start in 2022?

Woman shopping online

While Black Friday itself falls on November 25th, every year retailers launch their toy deals earlier and earlier in the month to help shoppers find and bag those bargains they're searching for more easily.

We'll be updating this page with the best toy deals daily over the Black Friday and Cyber Monday weekend, and in the lead-up to the main weekend, so keep checking back for our pick of quality bargains for your little ones.

Tips for shopping for toys on Black Friday

"Hoping the Barbie Dream House is included but actually bit nervous about holding out incase it sells out and then I can’t get it." - ginberry4

"I tend to glance at topic-specific 'Black Friday deals in X' websites - don't get drawn into the EVERYTHING IS ON SALE AAAAAAAAAAAH mentality as you'll just waste all your money on frippery." - SpoonBlender

"I’d rather shop online I think, rather than getting up at the crack of dawn and facing hordes of people fighting over stuff in shops." - PoptartPoptart

Sales shopping can be competitive, and no-one wants to see that fateful 'sold out' on a toy you were after. There are a few things you can do to get a head start, including prepping as much as possible.

Write a list of the toys you're after (especially important for those using Black Friday as an opportunity to Christmas shop), and order them in priority. For example, if it's a main present you know your child is set on, make that your main focus, rather than random stocking fillers. That way, once you've got the big ticket items out of the way and sorted, you won't miss out on the deals you really want and will have time left over for the odd impulse buy.

Following retailers you particularly like on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and their other social accounts can also lead you to good deals too, as well as their newsletters, but we'd recommend shopping around to find the best deal as you may miss the biggest savings from another store.
