NHS Fife tries to silence nurse - Sandie Peggie vs NHS Fife Health Board and Dr Beth Upton - thread #22

1000 replies

nauticant · 22/02/2025 14:11

Sandie Peggie, a nurse at Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy (VH), has brought claims in the employment tribunal against her employer; Fife Health Board (the Board) and another employee, Dr B Upton. Ms Peggie’s claims are of sexual harassment, harassment related to a protected belief, indirect discrimination and victimisation. Dr Upton claims to be a transwoman, that is observed as male at birth but asserting a female gender identity.

The Employment Tribunal hearing started on Monday 3 February 2025 and was expected to last 2 weeks. However, after 2 weeks it was not complete and it adjourned part-heard. It is planned that it will resume on 16 July and the last day of evidence will be 28 July and then there will be 2 days of submissions from counsel meaning that the hearing will end on 30 July.

The hearing commenced with Sandie Peggie giving evidence. Dr Beth Upton gave evidence from Thursday 6 February to Wednesday 12 February.

Access to view the hearing remotely was obtainable by sending an email request to [email protected] headed Public Access Request (Peggie v Fife Health Board) 4104864/2024 and requesting access.

However, as a result of problems with the livestreaming, apparently caused by a very large number of observers, remote public access to the hearing was suspended on Tuesday 11 February. It was suggested that it might be reinstated at some point but don't count on it.

The hearing is being live tweeted by https://x.com/tribunaltweets and there's additional information here: https://tribunaltweets.substack.com/p/peggie-vs-fife-health-board-and-dr. This also has threadreaderapp archives of live-tweeting of the sessions of the hearing for those who can't follow on Twitter, for example: archive.is/xkSxy.

Let's just say that when I started I didn't think my life's work was going to be creating a MN megathread that would never end.

Thank you for your excellent thread shepherding, @nauticant

nauticant · 22/02/2025 14:28

As ever, a request:

We've seen what a nightmare this has been for Sandie, and what a gruelling and uncertain experience it is to go through an Employment Tribunal. It would be even harder going through it and worrying about how to fund it.

Other women are going through similar experiences and need our support, so at least they're able to focus on the important parts and not worry all the time about funding. One woman going through this is Sarah Holman who is crowdfunding under Harassed and Victimised for supporting Women’s Rights. It's possible she's unaware of the support offered by Mumsnet and it would be great if she could receive some.

Thanks @nauticant for these excellent threads. I wouldn't like to guess what number the final thread will get to before this is all over! In the absence of Tunnocks treats may I offer some tasty choc chip banana bread to you all. Made some today to cheer myself up.

you've done a spectacular job, thank you

WearyAuldWumman · 22/02/2025 15:18

Surely the intervention of the EHRC means that it's game over for NHS Fife?

Igmum · 22/02/2025 15:27

Certainly hope so @WearyAuldWumman. If it isn't we may need to devise ways to pass these threads on to our granddaughters (thread #9786145600294)

I like to think it was game over the moment Upton opened his smug gob in court

Hello wims! Why are you all here on a Saturday and not cleaning your kitchens and making yourselves look pretty? Is it because you're not as good at wimming as the expats experts?!

Thanks for the new thread. Anyone want to guess what number we'll be on by the time the tribunal resumes? I say, assuming NHS Fife manage not to do anything else ridiculous before then 😂, 25.

hello! Sarah Holman here.
I do pop in and check out threads, sometime though it becomes overwhelming and I take a break from social media.
I will post more once I have a date from court for a preliminary hearing.

Thank you for your support ❤️

Thanks nauticant! Thread 22 this is mad.

Anyone got any mind bleach handy? I accidentally clicked on the peeing trans story in the last thread. Ugh. 😖

Also I have been busy making banana bread with butter icing so having a large slice to watch the rugby and also this thread.

Thanks Nauticant.

I'm glad to see the last thread ended on a very proper acknowledgement of the superiority of Barry's Gold Blend Tea.

Turn the moment gold.

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 22/02/2025 17:15

I admit that I've never heard of Barry's Gold Blend Tea. Is that bad?
