Sandie Peggie, a nurse at Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy (VH), has brought claims in the employment tribunal against her employer; Fife Health Board (the Board) and another employee, Dr B Upton. Ms Peggie’s claims are of sexual harassment, harassment related to a protected belief, indirect discrimination and victimisation. Dr Upton claims to be a transwoman, that is observed as male at birth but asserting a female gender identity.

The Employment Tribunal hearing started on Monday 3 January 2025 and is expected to continue for 2 weeks.

Women should not have to stand up in court and describe their heavy periods to the world in order to justify single sex changing rooms in the workplace. This is genuinely disgraceful.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 04/02/2025 11:45

How is she responsible for her husband?

TWETMIRF · 04/02/2025 11:46

DrU has shown by his actions that he doesn't give a flying fuck about anyone's dignity or basic courtesy apart from his own

FannyCann · 04/02/2025 11:46

Thanks. Place marking

Thanks for the new thread nauticant.

Does her husband lose his freedom of speech because of his wife working with BU as well? This man has rare reach and power

Exactly. Provision of single sex spaces is not contingent on heavy periods or previous sexual assault.

AnnaMagnani · 04/02/2025 11:49

Honestly, no, I don't think most people would be offended by the discussion her husband had.

Outside a small woke circle, most people would agree.

DemeraraAbyss · 04/02/2025 11:50

If a patient objected to Upton as a doctor, I wonder if he would start keeping notes on her on his phone too?

only following here. What did her husband say?

nauticant · 04/02/2025 11:52

He asked whether dating a transwoman was gay and commented about them having a dick.

He said something about TW having dicks which according to JR is "deeply offensive"

TWETMIRF · 04/02/2025 11:54

Wow, she has the power to control what so many people write.

Peregrina · 04/02/2025 11:54

He said something about TW having dicks.
Isn't that a fact in most cases? Which is what this tribunal is about. But why is her husband's opinion relevant? Oh to prove she's a 'transphobe' I suppose.

PepeParapluie · 04/02/2025 11:55

Thanks for the coverage all, have been catching up on tribunal tweets this morning. Genuinely shocked at some of the exchanges.

The exchange where JR asked if Peggie understands it’s offensive to call a TW a man and Peggie replies ‘it’s the truth’ was powerful though, well done that woman!

Boiledbeetle · 04/02/2025 11:56

SP I had no problem with Beth's transgender status, the only problem I had was with Beth being in the women's changing room

Boiledbeetle · 04/02/2025 11:57

NC asking what is the relevance of the current line of questions

ArabellaScott · 04/02/2025 11:57

thanks for all the updates.
