Me, a swan? Ah, go on!

Do I have friends? Am I not such an ugly duckling afterall?

These threads have been brill. You're all brill. I've been having a horrible time at work, it's been a way to distract from my mundane troubles and fight the bigger fight with Allison.

Emotionalsupportviper · 27/05/2022 22:27

if one of my juniors has repeatedly ballsed up what should be a straightforward admin task, and made me look really stupid in front of all of mumsnet, I probably wouldn't be over-keen on them having another stab at it.

I have to agree - I'd rather face the wrath of the Bar Standards Board than the contempt of Mumsnet

Where does everyone stand on Jaffa Cakes?
(When I was at university, the mark of a good maths society was having real Jaffa Cakes, not Sainsbury's imitation ones.)

I wouldn't dare contradict Mr Donald Potter QC's ruling on this at the VAT tribunal in 1991!

That's where she got her cap, surely?

Dear Garden Court Chambers, (except Allison)

Hey Guys, evening, hope it’s not too late, what with it being nearly 8 pm on a Friday evening and what with the Jubilee coming, and I know some of you will be busy doing…. Stuffff.

Should I write this an official complaint or just a quick hey guys WTF?

It’s a hard choice having gotten intimately acquainted with the finer points of your complaints procedure recently.

I get from that you’ll probably infer that I’ve read the details of your actual complaints procedure. I have to say though…

Why? Why would you think that?

I mean that is the most obvious logical conclusion that an intelligent person, especially a chamber full of legal bods would jump to.

However, I took a leaf out of your books and read a few tweets about a case you’re currently involved with. I was VERY careful not to check any of the replies, good tip!!!,

Oh and listened to a couple of your current and ex staff talk at great great length, with much mangling of the language I know as English, and not a lot of fine detail all about how you consider your complaints procedure to work.

Yeah! Not going to go there! I’m sure you’ve got the picture by now, and most certainly what happens when you annoy the many many versions of Allison that are out here in the world.

So just a quick suggestion before I go. Do better!

Regards Boiled.

😂

Man of wealth and toast, surely...

He'll have to rename himself as "Mick Jaffa" for this thread - isn't "Sticky Fingers" all about the aftermath of biscuit consumption?

Ameanstreakamilewide · 27/05/2022 22:53

The King, Queen and Emperor of all biscuits - now and forever is...

🥁 roll, please.

McVitie's Boasters. Absolutely gorgeous biscuits.
I ate an awful lot of them when I was on maternity leave. 😋

Huzzah for Allison for her grace and composure; and for Ben for his all-round brilliance, day after day.

TheBiologyStupid · 27/05/2022 22:57

Oops, I'm too used to sites where replies appear under the comment you're replying to and now I've reached the end of this thread and my inane thoughts are all bunched up together. Like a GC(C) barrister apologising for wrongthink, I will try to do better in future!

MartinReubyUnsungHero · 27/05/2022 23:04

It's too late on a Friday night for anything other than dashing in and skim reading the thread, especially as I'm far too busy and important to give it my full attention and need to book a flight to Albania. It does feel like it might be an apposite time for an insightful question.

Just wish I was sharp enough to think of one.

IcakethereforeIam · 27/05/2022 23:08

Sorry I've been having a lovely time having biscuits and Columbo with ny eldest. Mr Spock murdered so many people! But Columbo tricked him ino saving a guy who could have been Grandpa from the Waltons. He'd sewn his heart up wrong but Columbo got him to do it properly and found the old stitches that Spock had hidden in his pocket I may have had too much sugar jaffa cakes are really bad with tea cake to my fingertips glad we're all friends again.

Boiledbeetle · 27/05/2022 23:30

Emotionalsupportviper · 27/05/2022 22:04

What!

You lightweights - depending on the flavour I would wrest a fairy cake from the jaws pf the cat without a second thought.

Lemon!!!! I hate lemon flavoured cake! I accidentally bought the wrong pack. God knows why, but I wasn't concentrating when I did the shopping the last few weeks.

But I do like cake so you know I could throw away and buy more cake or go over to Sarah 's fundraiser and keep eating lemon flavour cat licked, slightly stale cake.

And here we are!!

OstrichFeathers · 27/05/2022 23:53

Thank you for the reminder about Sarah's gardening, given the hour I have planted some night shades.

I've read almost every one of the posts on these many threads, never caught up quick enough to contribute. But thank you all for your insight, wit and wisdom. And iccky for excellence in thread management. And of course Allison for incredible grace, courage and fortitude. You are some woman for one woman. Flowers

(And in biscuit related matters, thanks for the jaffa cake recipe, I have some "spare" sponge in the freezer that was in need of inspiration)

Thank you @Bundlephobia , unfortunately I can't see the article, it is just me?

No I can’t either.

turbonerd · 28/05/2022 07:00

Yes @McDuffy Thank you.
💐💐 for Alison. What a Star you are.🌟🌟

I am always too late, but have followed these threads and neglected my children (and work). My flabber is gasted.

Pear jaffa cakes, though 🤩

Bundlephobia · 28/05/2022 07:21

Thanks @McDuffy ! - my apologies, not sure what went wrong with my link. I'm a brand new Times subscriber (on the back of their excellent coverage of GC issues) so just trying to learn how to work the sharing

WookeyHole · 28/05/2022 07:48

Thanks @McDuffy and thanks @Bundlephobia for trying.

I find this but interesting

Bailey is also able to sue Stonewall because the Equality Act 2010 states that it is unlawful to induce, cause or influence prohibited conduct. In this case, it is alleged that Stonewall put pressure on Garden Court to discipline Bailey over her gender-critical comments.

I've been trying to work out for it fits together and no fully understanding the detriments, so this helps.

Boiledbeetle · 28/05/2022 07:48

Just reading the Times article. It's probably for the best that GCC can't read it because it's behind a paywall!

"Arguably most damaging, it has been alleged that Garden Court is a fundamentally badly managed chambers with its QC heads and other senior lawyers having told the tribunal they were on holiday, too busy, looking after their children — or even based abroad — at crucial times in the dispute with Bailey"

"As one lawyer said as the main evidence session finished this week: “The trial has been reputationally appalling for both Garden Court and Stonewall"

It's delicious to read

WookeyHole · 28/05/2022 07:49

*bit

And I don't know what happened to my quotation marks.

BenCoopersSupportWren · 28/05/2022 07:50

If nothing else, Allison has levelled up in the “having friends” stakes. From a bunch of backstabbers and Stasiesque informants to JKR and the women at that amazing lunch. I know which of the two groups I’d want as my friends.

Is it too early for some support shortbread?
