For Women Scotland - Public meeting on Women's Rights in Scotland - Edinburgh, 31/1/19

On Thursday 31 January, For Women Scotland are holding their first public meeting in Edinburgh.

There'll be information on and discussion of the current situation in Scottish schools, councils, hospitals, prisons and any other areas affected by the ongoing erosion of women's rights and the undermining of safeguarding.

There's been a lot of interest and quite a few of the tickets are gone already, in just 24 hours. If any of you wish to go, you can book your ticket here. (The price covers the costs of the group as no-one funds us but us.)

As always, the venue will be announced on the day.

When I went to my first women's rights meeting (WPUK) on Valentine's Day last year, I was a little unsure and worried about going. Some wonderful women reached out to me here on Mumsnet and helped me feel welcome and reassured, so now it's my turn:

Feel free to DM me if you are worried about going on your own, I'm happy to chat any time and also willing to meet you beforehand.

Hope to see you there!

Well there we have it in black and white. Not that its any surprise though. I will be raising this as well as other issues when I meet with my msps this month.

Professor Rosa Freedman is confirmed as a speaker at this event.

ForwomenScot · 20/01/2019 19:49

Yes, we are delighted Prof Rosa Freeman is making a welcome return back to Scotland for the meeting. Also speaking is Maggie Mellon who is a feminist campaigner and former social worker specialising in child protection - she's had articles published in the Herald and Commonspace.

And of course, our very own Susan Smith who gave evidence at the Census committee at Parliament:

Most importantly we are planning plenty of time for q&a and discussion.

It's shaping up to be a fantastic evening. Tickets are selling well, so if you haven't already, please book soon!

Alicethroughtheblackmirror · 20/01/2019 20:02

Thank you! It's going to be amazing. Can't wait!

Professor Rosa Freedman is confirmed as a speaker at this event.

I will be starstruck!

Christina McKelvie: Applicants To the Equally Safe Violence Against Women And Girls Fund are required to provide their LBTI Inclusion Plan (or An GBTI Plan for organisations providing direct support to men) as part of their application. Applicants Without these plans in place are not considered.

See, why can't refuges be "trans-inclusive" by saying "our service is for all females, including lesbians, bisexual women, transmen and non-binary females, and females with Disorders of Sexual Development (since the "I" is inexplicably in there, wtf)".

See, trans-inclusive without letting males in. Still get funding.

Really excited - especially to see women whom I greatly admire on the panel. A little nervous though - not for myself but because I am bringing a friend, although I have told her what has happened at other meetings of this type.

GrandmaSteglitszch · 23/01/2019 00:01

Wow, onlywomen! That's a lot of stuff that I can use to educate myself, as trans people often urge us to do. Thanks.

Robbabank · 23/01/2019 19:22

Hi, I’ll be there too. Hoping to bring my husband along.

I clicked the link and Twitter warned me "The following media includes potentially sensitive content." Confused

Also from videos of WPUK speakers in the previous link.
