There is some new schools guidance coming down the line that contains deeply regressive and unscientific messages about gender identity. This time aimed specifically at primary school aged children as part of their relationship and sexual health education.

The 'highlights' are set out in this Twitter thread: twitter.com/Scottish_Women/status/1028744266498158594

You can view the full draft guidance here: rshp.scot/ (look at the drop down box entitled 'Levels').

Please consider writing to your kids' headteacher, parent council, local councillors, MSPs (remember you have one constituency MSP and several 'list' MSPs).

There are contact email addresses on the RSHP website too. Smile

The guidance is due to be used in schools next year.

I see that the Scottish Government is denying ever having supported LBGT's Transgender Schools Pack.

Well done to ScottishWoman and all the other parents in Scotland who are demanding answers and holding councils to account for their lack of oversight and concern for safeguarding.

howonearthdidwegethere · 14/08/2018 11:22

It seems as if the SG may be retreating from its earlier support. However, all those Scottish local authorities still have the guidance as policy and none - NOT ONE - has subjected it to an Equality Impact Assessment.

(For others reading this thread, this is OTHER guidance which is currently policy in many Scottish LAs. The thread I've started here is about draft guidance due to come into force in 2019.)

Apologies @howonearthdidwegethere.

I was confused about where Scotland was up to, and could have sent this really important 'heads up', off on a tangent.

The draft guidelines, as spelled by Scottishwoman so clearly in her Twitter topic, needs to be challenged right now as a matter of urgency.

The guidance is appalling.

howonearthdidwegethere · 14/08/2018 12:44

That's okay. Smile The problem is the daily torrent of regressive and misogynistic nonsense. It's almost impossible to keep up!

Both sets of guidance need to be challenged.

Scottish schools go back this week so it's the perfect time for parents to take this up with schools, councillors, MSPs...

YeTalkShiteHen · 14/08/2018 12:49

I’ve taken it up with our local MSP, and MP.

PerspicaciaTick · 14/08/2018 12:50

Has any posted this in Scotsnet?

YeTalkShiteHen · 14/08/2018 12:51

Aye there’s a thread in scotsnet about it, I’ll see if I can find the link.

YeTalkShiteHen · 14/08/2018 12:53

It seems to have disappeared? Wonder if it got zapped?

gendercritter · 14/08/2018 12:56

Not Scottish but that is horrendous. I would be pulling my child out of school before I let them be taught such utter rubbish

YeTalkShiteHen · 14/08/2018 12:59

I’ve told DDs school that she won’t be engaging with any of this until I’ve seen everything and can decide what to do.

womanspeaking · 14/08/2018 13:09

Parents in Scotland should be very worried. The Scottish guidelines suggest that schools could allow children to "trans" in school and this could be kept confidential from their parents.
Removing parental rights and responsibilities is something that to date, only the courts can do. But in this brave new world it appears that TRAs are taking that responsibility onto themselves. Yet still politicians are silent about this.
All happening in plain sight.

BetsyM00 · 14/08/2018 13:13

I emailed rhsp:

Your website says "This programme of work is being supported by a partnership of NHS Boards, Local Authorities, Education Scotland, Scottish Government and Third Sector agencies."

Could you please tell me:

  • which NHS Boards are involved;
  • which Local Authorities are involved; and
  • the names of the Third Sector agencies.

Thank you.

and got the following reply:

Hello

As we develop the resource we are seeking to engage with all Health Boards and all Local Authorities. The contract we have is with NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde who act as host for the programme of work. We are engaging with many Third Sector agencies as we go, many of which have specialisms in particular areas of interest to the development of the RSHP resource, on completion we will acknowledge and thank sources. If you have any suggestions as to agencies/organisations that we would benefit from being in touch with please do let me know.

With regards
Colin Morrison

howonearthdidwegethere · 14/08/2018 13:18

Ah, so not willing to tell you WHICH third sector organisations. Hmm.

I'd like to know if there are any actual SCIENTISTS writing this. You'd think there would be some actual scientists in NHS GG&C...

North Lanarkshire is one of the LAs.

NothingOnTellyAgain · 14/08/2018 13:20

They have decided that boy / girl are gender labels and nothing to do with sex.

This is all very very weird. The pace of change, the change of language.

This means that scottish schools / government cannot do any research / reporting into anything sex based in schools using the language girls / boys.

I only looked at one small section.

BetsyM00 · 14/08/2018 13:27

And on the rhsp site: "An independent agency TASC (Scotland) Ltd has been commissioned to deliver the programme. Contact Colin Morrison [email protected]"

So rhsp = tasc. Not sure why they needed 2 websites.

They seem to be a private research company.

They advertised for people to write the guidance on the GLOW website earlier this year. This is the ad that comes up on Google:

TASC (Scotland) Ltd
TASC was established in 1992 by Cathy McCulloch and Colin Morrison.
TASC provides a range of services which include social research and service evaluation. We have a particular interest in some of the issues and areas which are detailed in the examples we give of our work.
TASC has a real interest in people - how they experience their lives and what their dreams, hopes and ambitions are for themselves and for their families and communities.

TASC is looking for two creative, self-starting professionals who possess a passion for developing the wellbeing of Scotland's children and young people. Each part-time post (3 days per week) will support the writing, development and piloting of Scotland's new Relationships, Sexual Health and Parenthood (RSHP) Education teaching resource. For further information and application form go to:

• rshp.scot/vacancies-work-with-us/
• goodmoves.org.uk/vacancy/a4s0n000000y4jiqa0-project-worker

We work with policy makers and service providers to help ensure that the needs and interests of service users are recognised and met.
The broad scope of our interests is a reflection of a perspective that sees people and communities in the round.

Anyone in East Ayrshire? They are piloting this programme in one primary and one secondary school already.

BraveAndStunning · 15/08/2018 12:01

LGBT Youth Scotland have recruited about 20 schools in Scotland so far. The first primary school was Downfield Primary in Dundee, and the project was heavily supported by Gregor Murray, the SNP councillor who recently resigned having called the 8 Lesbians who carried a 'Lesbians are Female Homosexuals' sign at London Pride 'Vile Cunts'. Gregor Murray also was criticised for calling women 'roasters' and criticised by the former Scottish Labour leader Kezia Dugdale as sexist.

This is Gregor Murray. I have avoided personal pronouns because I wish to follow Mumsnet's policy re 'misgendering. Gregor Murray self-describes as a 'non binary woman'

www.thecourier.co.uk/fp/news/local/dundee/703892/childrens-convener-resigns-following-row-over-expletive-laden-social-media-outbursts/amp/?__twitter_impression=true

LGBT Youth Scotland are currently recruiting for project managers, youth digital officers and PR Managers.

www.lgbtyouth.org.uk/jobs/vacancies/

They received £900,000 in funding from the Scottish Government in 2017. They are intending to roll out their 'LGBT Schools Charter' further across Scotland. This programme HAS NOT been endorsed by the Scottish Government.

Of particular concern is the 'Supporting Transgender' document that they claimed had been endorsed by the Scottish Government, only to admit it was an 'error' some 8 months later. See link:

www.lgbtyouth.org.uk/media/1344/supporting-transgender-young-people.pdf

This document actively acts against standard safeguarding in advising that in the case of young people who have confided in teachers re gender identity issues, this information should not be given to parents.

It also advises that there is no need for parents to be aware when their child is sharing accommodation with children of the opposite sex, who have gender identity issues. It also supports the use of breast binders for female children with gender identity issues.

Please read this document. It is important that parents are aware what is being taught to their children

The LGBT Schools charter is a trojan horse for the wholescale adoption of transgender ideology and plays on most decent parent's wish to have their children taught tolerance and diversity and the acceptance of LGBT issues, but who are not aware of the complexity or controversial issues surrounding transgender issues and the ideologies pushed by some.

Also, LGBT Youth have a 'Chat Line', which they are expanding with further recruitment of 'Digital Officers'. Given their approach to not sharing information with children's parents, it is of concern as to what advice is/will be given via these Chat lines, or indeed who LGBT Youth is accountable to in the giving of advice to young vulnerable people.

Very informative posts thank you. Its good to have a summary of the issues. Theres so much going on at the moment with this stuff. I have written to Education Scotland to raise my concern.

This is lunacy! Need to find out what my daughters schools stance is on this.
