One of my favourite threads has sadly disappeared. No-one, including MNHQ has been able to track it down. It was the one about how we transported horses to the Olympics. It was so funny.

But there was a whole series of threads relating to No. 6 in the list on the MNHQ timeline, Fighting sexist advertising:

Mumsnet successfully challenged a £1.25m billboard campaign that declared, in one of a series of deliberately provocative statements intended to demonstrate the power of outdoor advertising, that "career women make bad mothers." The poster was replaced with one that said "Sexist advertising is bad for business."

https://www.theguardian.com/media/2010/jan/06/outdoor-advertising-career-women-billboards#:~:text=One%20of%20more%20than%20450,what%20else%20I%20can%20do.%22

It was a truly hilarious run of threads, brutally taking the piss out of Gary (and his agency) who had created these truly dreadful ads. Most/many of our posts got deleted, because Gary really didn’t like us taking the piss out of him, or suggesting that he might have a too-small manhood.

There were haikus about Gary & his agency, weren’t there? I think I wrote one.

I can't remember all the details, but the one that had me engrossed for days was the family whose holiday home had been 'borrowed' and the trespassing family wouldn't leave without compensation . Ate all the food etc, big electricity bills. A neighbour/ caretaker gave the interlopers his key and was charging rent I think?

Mexican house thief.

TheHerboriste · 28/03/2025 06:57

I can’t find the image of the Sinister Easter Bonnet!

Happy anniversary Mumsnet!
Some truly hilarious threads there, but the most memorable one for me wasn't funny at all

Thanks for the buzzkill on a lighthearted thread. Smh.

MyCatIsTheHeadChef · 28/03/2025 07:06

One of the first threads I got totally riveted by was the lost hair booble plate that went down behind the toilet. Cue everyone wondering what a booble was (it was a hair bobble plate) then others wondering why you would put your hair bobbles onto a plate (and why you would put the plate on top of the toilet cistern) and then the OP was using a fish slice trying to push the booble plate out all in real time and coming back and updating us in an increasing state of distress. Her DH came home and gently held her in his arms and said he would get the booble plate out and all of MN swooned at the romantic hero.

It finally came out- I think some dismantling of walls was involved and then a triumphant photo of the retrieved booble plate.

I can't find the thread now.

Snapped and farted should be there too!

You’re kidding, right?!
EMIN was an absolute legend and a brilliant foster mother - too right she should be remembered on such an occasion as MN’s birthday - Earth Mother, one of the finest Flowers

VallarMorghulis · 28/03/2025 07:29

I joined Mumsnet when I was pregnant with DD who’s now 24, so I’ve been here a while under different names…

Some of my favourite threads that didn’t make the list include the Mumsnet Rhapsody, the cutted up pear and if my toddler was on AIBU.

Thanks for your company all these years Mumsnet and Mumsnetters, for the handholding, the laughs and even the tears. There were a few brilliant trolls as well…

ArabellaScott · 28/03/2025 07:43

Haply birtfay Munsnet.

25, holy moly!

CollaterlieSistersSister · 28/03/2025 08:48

Happy birthday MN! 🎂

From the proud OP of one of your chosen ones. Possibly my biggest achievement in life.

CollaterlieSistersSister · 28/03/2025 08:54

There was a thread on here recently about living your life as if you were in Country Living magazine. It was silly and brilliant, like MN of yore.

MarieDeGournay · 28/03/2025 09:07

This is what got me hooked on MN:

Everyone scarper, the rozzers are coming | Mumsnet

I had to take regular breaks from reading it, to wipe tears away/take in some oxygen/give the intercostal muscles a rest😂

Me too actually

JoBrodie · 28/03/2025 09:31

Oh poor Internet Man ;) He rather went about being helpful in the wrong way didn't he!

Is there a way to uncover the photos of items mentioned in the various threads? I've no idea what the Easter bonnet hat or the unfortunate clay item look like and searching on the Internet Archive under a thread's current (with /mumsnetclassics/ in it) or assumed old thread URL (without /mumsnetclassics/ in it) hasn't brought anything up.

Thanks, and happy birthday.

Jo
P.S. I'm here because of penis beaker. I laughed so much at it on the train home that the man sitting next to me got up and moved away haha.

MyCatIsTheHeadChef · 28/03/2025 10:00

Oh the twatted spider. I went on that thread all prepared to say sharp things about the misuse of the word 'literally' and then realised poor HoneyDragon meant - well literally.

SadCarpetMess · 28/03/2025 10:04

Sorry about the quality but this thread had me howling at the time.

rainbowstardrops · 28/03/2025 10:23

I’ve just read the Well That Went Well. So funny!!!
The thread that made me actually cry with laughter recently, was the crazy spelling of some names and the poster who said about a spelling she’d seen and countless posters told her it was actually Polish and she replied calmly to every single one of them. Another poster mistaking wrote floats my goat too and another who said her child was called Pledge because he was polish. Honestly, I was sat crying! 😂

BIWI · 28/03/2025 10:24

@EmpressaurusKitty there were haikus aplenty. Some very funny. Most deleted because of their references to Gary’s penis, I seem to recall! He was very cross with us!

MerryBeret · 28/03/2025 12:14

Are any of these actually entertaining/funny? I just picked one at random which was the BBQ one, and I don't get why this is one of the top threads ever?

RockyRogue1001 · 28/03/2025 12:25

I love the endlessly resurrected carpet fitter one.

And RunningInTheRain's two threads. Different UN on the first thread

JustMeHello · 28/03/2025 12:31

No screaming in the Sistine Chapel??
