This is my favourite - short but funny

I've been slowly working my way through Classics for a while now. I think my absolute favourite (so far) is Elderly Korean Lady Grin

I've recently read this one which had me chuckling https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/mumsnet_classics/3166936-Apparently-Im-Dead

And this one which is hilariously bonkers! https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/mumsnet_classics/2788166-Someone-has-nicked-my-username

I once changed my name to what was a random (to my mind) TokyoSashimi.

Then on a thread I saw a TokyoSushi and was about to get all suspicious about stalking etc. Then did an advanced search and discovered poor Tokyo Sushi had been around for years longer than me under that name. So i felt quite abashed.

(Apologies TokyoSushi- I meant to DM you and apologise at the time. Blush )

CMOTDibbler · 28/03/2025 12:39

I've been here a very long time (I was on Aitchs BLW forum and she told me I'd like it here, and ds is at Uni now), and though I love the funny classics, I have to say the ones like Peters heart transplant where we were all crossing fingers/praying/ thinking of them all, and EMINs thread about her foster baby are examples of MN at its finest. Alongside AnyFuckers Listen Up thread which should be compulsory reading at school

harijes · 28/03/2025 12:41

MerryBeret · 28/03/2025 12:14

Are any of these actually entertaining/funny? I just picked one at random which was the BBQ one, and I don't get why this is one of the top threads ever?

I think that is the difference between Mumsnet then and now.

FiveFoxes · 28/03/2025 13:00

I'm another 'newbie' sucked in by the penis beaker in October 2013. Although even I see the changes since then.

Regarding the Today interview, who actually came up with the biscuit question because they were crediting Justine and I think it was a random MNer? They said it was when Gordon Brown was being quizzed on the site.

One of the first threads I got totally riveted by was the lost hair booble plate that went down behind the toilet. Cue everyone wondering what a booble was (it was a hair bobble plate) then others wondering why you would put your hair bobbles onto a plate (and why you would put the plate on top of the toilet cistern) and then the OP was using a fish slice trying to push the booble plate out all in real time and coming back and updating us in an increasing state of distress. Her DH came home and gently held her in his arms and said he would get the booble plate out and all of MN swooned at the romantic hero.

It finally came out- I think some dismantling of walls was involved and then a triumphant photo of the retrieved booble plate.

I can't find the thread now.

I'm such a mis-reading numpty! The thread was already in the top 25! [How embarrassing]

SlightlyJaded · 28/03/2025 17:03

Remember nearly all of these (still loved 'Cutted up Pear' the most though).

I also remember CRYING till I couldn't breath at some of the old Peddlars threads. I just had a look and they don't work as well now that Peddlars doesn't exist so the links are dead, but my god, actual tears at the 'beautifully preserved spanner from the the original home of Citroen in France for a mere £625' and all the other artisinal shite on their website at ludicrous prices.

Anothenamechange · 28/03/2025 17:17

Placemarking to enjoy these at leisure!

FeatherChops · 28/03/2025 17:57

Has anyone mentioned the lady who asked for advice on a specific pushchair to which she received no replies? And then - years later, she answered herself ..

Yes 😄 I put a link to it earlier in the thread - love that one.

lovemycbf · 28/03/2025 18:06

Oh snapped and farted wasn’t included 😜🤣

Oblomov25 · 28/03/2025 20:30

I knew a few.

SingingSands · 28/03/2025 21:14

Pouffe of Poo pops into my mind every so often.

The first thread I remember being helpless with laughter at was when a poster was trying to link to an M&S dress but just couldn't work out how to do it. It went on for ages and I was absolutely gasping with laughter.

Panterusblackish · 28/03/2025 21:29

What no rapist dolphins!? That thread lives rent free in my head. It was utterly mental.

Happy birthday Mumsnet, here's to the next 25 years of community madness

TianasBayou · 28/03/2025 21:49

Probably not in classics but did anyone participate in the MN WI bake offs? The highlight being a poster sifting flour from her upstairs window to achieve the necessary airiness for the Victoria sponge? The legendary ‘high sift’.

Wallasey123 · 28/03/2025 22:54

Can’t sleep and working my way through these… have now fallen into a MN rabbit hole
also, a recent fave (how could I forget)

I was reminded of the https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/mumsnet_classics/3527870-Which-is-the-tastiest-Protestant-traybake thread, the other day - it's one of my favourites.

And there's [[https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/mumsnet_classics/1852343-Well-That-went-well-didnt-it?reply=41563276, where TantrumsAndBalloons babysat a friend's three year old.

Edited

Auntie Tantrums! I re-read it recently, it still melts my heart. It was so beautifully written and the sheer joy of the toddler is palpable. She'd be 15 now!

Has anyone mentioned Fish Slice and Lube yet?

Spandaupants · 29/03/2025 00:10

Is T-rexing/ T-Rex arms on the list?

Spandaupants · 29/03/2025 00:22

Brilliant

What about "I'm Angela Hernandez" - I can't remember the title of that one, but it was one of those threads that just got funnier and funnier.

Leat illustrious moments of my professional career. It’s one of my favourites.

Glad the babysitting a 3 year old thread has been linked. That was a great thread.

Some truly hilarious threads there, but the most memorable one for me wasn't funny at all

Happy birthday MN. Thank you for many years of entertaining and informative chat.

Whatwouldnanado · 29/03/2025 14:53

Happy birthday Mumsnet. Thanks for all the constant laughs, wisdom snd reassurance that It Wasn’t Just Me since I joined around 24 years ago when I was pregnant for the first time. I look forward to reading through the classics later or more likely tomorrow I’m doing a post-menopausal early hours shift!
Does anyone remember the husband eating the home made fat ball thread. And T rex arms?
