NHS Fife tries to silence nurse - Sandie Peggie vs NHS Fife Health Board and Dr Beth Upton - thread #9

Sandie Peggie, a nurse at Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy (VH), has brought claims in the employment tribunal against her employer; Fife Health Board (the Board) and another employee, Dr B Upton. Ms Peggie’s claims are of sexual harassment, harassment related to a protected belief, indirect discrimination and victimisation. Dr Upton claims to be a transwoman, that is observed as male at birth but asserting a female gender identity.

The Employment Tribunal hearing started on Monday 3 February 2025 and is expected to continue for 2 weeks. The hearing commenced with Sandie Peggie giving evidence. Dr Beth Upton started giving evidence on Thursday 6 February.

Doesn't matter how aggressive he tries to make Sandie out to be I'm sure the judge gets what happened by now and hopefully has a good measure of this man!

You can tell who was confrontational. Compare this to Penny who just wanted to be heard, to be seen, asking authentically... please understand.

It's crazy. My husband is 6 foot and I'm 5 foot 4. He picks me up with one hand if I'm in his way. He said the only way he'd feel threatened by someone my size is if they were wielding a knife.

She was aggressive because Cristmas eve.

It's the smug smile after he finishes answering that's getting to me. He think he is coming across as so much smarter than everyone else in the room!

He really doesn't see how entirely male every aspect of his behaviour has been, including on the stand, does he.

Except he would take that to mean you didn’t think women could be doctors. Much is the delusional World he resides in.

It's interesting listening to it myself, and reading how others are processing it, as I don't always agree with their interpretation. But it's great to be able to follow it in this kind of stereo.

Have been watching this afternoon. I am trying to summarise my reaction but simply cannot.

Does anyone get the feeling Dr Upton wanted something like this to happen so that he could get on his soapbox and air all of the major TRA talking points? That he thinks because he's a doctor he can make a convincing case, and turn things around for the trans side, who've had a lot of losses of late?

I'm hearing DU describe SP being assertive, and he frames that as her being aggressive. I've come across this before.

I think his smile has changed. Currently I think it’s because he knows he’s been seen clearly and he doesn’t like it. The closest he can come to shame, and deflecting from it.
