NHS Fife tries to silence nurse - Sandie Peggie vs NHS Fife Health Board and Dr Beth Upton - thread #9

Sandie Peggie, a nurse at Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy (VH), has brought claims in the employment tribunal against her employer; Fife Health Board (the Board) and another employee, Dr B Upton. Ms Peggie’s claims are of sexual harassment, harassment related to a protected belief, indirect discrimination and victimisation. Dr Upton claims to be a transwoman, that is observed as male at birth but asserting a female gender identity.

The Employment Tribunal hearing started on Monday 3 February 2025 and is expected to continue for 2 weeks. The hearing commenced with Sandie Peggie giving evidence. Dr Beth Upton started giving evidence on Thursday 6 February.

I have spent a lot of today being really cross, but I actually just want to weep now. Weep and weep and weep. I actually think HE is enjoying this platform...

I involunarily cringed when I heard him say breasts. Its just creppy, the whole soft voice lecturing about how the entire human experience of biology works - that same understooding that humans have had since humans walked on the earth. We didnt need science to know there are males and females. He's insufferable.

NC - many women using the CR may believe that there are two sexes, and that only women have ovaries, only men produce sperm, and it follows that everybody is one or the other.

BU - yes, but I disagree that's self evident. There is some portion of people who believe those things. Doesn't make them true. Doesn't give people the right to be prejudicsed or rude or disrespectufl.

At this point I think we all know more medically than the witness!

What I don't understand is he says he is not male, he says he is a biological female, and a woman...but at the same time sex is a nebulous concept, a dog whistle. Which is it?

Yes. There is a single occupancy changing area (gender neutral) 15 feet away from A&E, if what I've read from other employees is correct. Also there's a cupboard that he changed in later.

The facade is slowing fading.

It's such a shame that his boss isn't allowed to listen to this testimony as she's a witness. Because I would have loved to see her face.
