Ah that makes sense. Uniqlo does deserve a special prize for rubbish webshop and most of all a rubbish app. (Although I still like their style of shop better than these new ones that are so mobile friendly that you can't see a complete page on a computer.)

botemp · 25/03/2021 09:12

Yes, the Asian M is apparently our S. I got the white dress in a size up because I thought it looked a bit Studio Ghibli twee when it's too fitted (don't mind that in the black, potentially) and also the smaller sizes are designed for people shorter than me and I had that issue with it hitting in the wrong places with the winter dress. The other items weren't fitted so I went with usual size of XS and I'm hoping I don't need a size down in the end 😬

We don't have an app Sad but by the sound of it I shouldn't want it either?

banivani · 25/03/2021 10:04

No it's the sort of "app" that opens web pages within the app. What's the point of that.

Features meticulous attention to taping and other details befitting the new generation of sweats. KAWAIIIIIII

Elle I'm sort of sorry you returned the SR dress but I do see your point ;).

I'm totally winging it on the size L, I have no idea.

botemp · 25/03/2021 10:18

I think taping is just a technical thing like stay stitching which would mean the sweats hold a shape instead of looking like a sharpei?

Sharpei are kawaii though...

Did no one get the jeans? I'm so convinced they'll be good on the right person, the men's version look very similar in shape to Flo's chinos actually, the reviews on those were very mixed though.

In other news, my fellow Shtisel fans, season 3 dropped today 😍 thankfully, as after this brief flurry of excitement I was wondering what I'd have to look forward to now.

Pigeon31 · 25/03/2021 11:35

Oo, my sister was recommending Shtisel - it's on my list to start watching this weekend.

XingMing · 25/03/2021 13:43

The COS alpaca cardigan arrived. The colour was good... it would have been cosy in a freeze... and it swamped me: too long and too chunky everywhere, so it went straight back into the packaging and will be going home to COS tomorrow.

banivani · 26/03/2021 08:12

Xing - shame. And again - sizing. Cos are too posh of course to for example state the model's measurements and what size she's wearing and other helpful hints that might help you avoid misordering.

quirkychick · 26/03/2021 09:25

Ooh, you've all done well with the +J stuff. I wasn't especially going to bother, but thought I'd have a look anyway. I couldn't even sign into the website yesterday. I agree the selvage jeans looked good.

Shame about the COS cardigan, Xing. I agree measurements are super helpful.

Floisme · 26/03/2021 09:28

Sorry about the cardigan Xing.

Well Hermes have just messaged to say my +J parcel will be delivered today! I am now ridiculously excited. I know that's why they do it and that I'm being played but it's still effective.

banivani · 26/03/2021 09:39

We are but pawns in the grand game played by multinational companies.

botemp · 26/03/2021 10:47

Oi, save the nihilism for after the weekend, if you please, Bani Wink

Lucky you, Flo, I got a shipment notification yesterday so they're quick but I'm guessing it's coming from Germany again (weird because the major European distribution point is here in NL but returns also always have to go to Germany 🤷) so probably will be here Saturday or Monday, I used Click and Collect as that's quicker and free but it's always a mystery as to when it will actually arrive.

CatherineMaitland · 26/03/2021 12:02

Thanks everyone - it will either work out or it won't, I think I've given up actively hoping. :)

I looked at the +J stuff but there's nothing I need, interested to see how the items fare with you all though. And also none of it seemed terribly springlike.

XingMing · 26/03/2021 12:43

My +J parcel is due anytime now... super efficient. The cardi has been dropped back with Hermes.

XingMing · 26/03/2021 13:26

Delivered. Unpacked, and it's all good. Blue and white hoodies are slouchy and voluminous, but not shapeless thanks to the sturdy (polyester) jersey. The shape is very flattering and will be useful over jeans, shorts, and leggings. Sleeves are a bit long, but roll the cuff in half and it's okay. When the weather warms a bit, the two-tone blue cardigan, 3/4 sleeves, in cotton-silk will also be good. Very pleased, and keeping all three items.

banivani · 26/03/2021 13:53

Well I'll be GUTTED now if the hoodie doesn't fit me after that review from Xing. I've had the first annoying "hey, we're told you'll be getting a parcel at some point" from the post service app so looks like they're very on the ball.

XingMing · 26/03/2021 14:34

I really hope it works for you bani.

Floisme · 26/03/2021 15:11

The silk / cotton knits are here. I've tried on and then, in case I was over excited, waited an hour and tried on again. I love the feel of them, they drape beautifully and the navy (which doesn't always work for me) is spot on. Very low-key classy Jane Birkin-ish and would take you just about anywhere.

My one carp is that the crew neck jumper is just a fraction higher than I like, thereby drawing to eye to my jawline instead of my still-very-fetching-if-I-do-say-so-myself collar bone. We're talking less than an inch and, if it was in a chunkier knit, a single hard tug would probably fix it. How much of a perfectionist am I? I'll sleep on it.

I'll keep the v-neck cardi in the medium for a slightly longer, slouchier fit.

Floisme · 26/03/2021 15:13

In fact I might watch the returns for a week or so and see if I can get the jumper in medium for a fractionally wider neckline. That would probably do it.

MindBodyChocolate · 26/03/2021 17:34

Hi all. I’m a long time lurker, posting now as I too got my +J purchases today. I went for the silk/cotton crew neck in pink, silk cotton polo shirt in navy and the black cotton linen short sleeve dress.

I love the dress. It feels very expensive and quite decadent for a summer dress. It’s long on me (I’m 5 foot 6) but I’m going to experiment with different shoes/sandals to see what looks good.

The polo shirt is also lovely - feels great and much cheaper than similar ones I’ve seen elsewhere. Only slight gripe is that it’s a bit longer than I expected but it’s only a minor complaint.

The crew neck is my least favourite. I’ll keep it as it’ll be a useful spring/summer top for work but as @Floisme says, it’s a touch too high for me. Again a lovely feel to the fabric though.

All in all I’m pleased with it - I never remember to log on in time for these events so very smug Grin

Floisme · 26/03/2021 18:11

Dammit Mind I wondered about the polo shirt but I already had 3 items in my bag and didn't want to delay any further. Maybe that would have been a better call than the crew neck?

Mind you I did keep on wearing the crew neck for quite a while after trying it, which is always a sign it might not be going back, unless I find a replacement.

botemp · 26/03/2021 19:17

I'm so Envy with yous and your hauls already in possession. IME knit silks tend to stretch a fair amount with wear and washing, especially around neckline and armscyes although knowing how fastidious Jil Sander is she might have solved that problem before it happens.

OP posts:
XingMing · 26/03/2021 20:40

I shan't be wearing the cardi until the weather warms up, but it feels, handles and drapes really well on a preliminary try on. Totally sold on the hoodies. They are polyester, but very expensive feeling polyester. The zip is really well put in, and supported with petersham so there's no movement. I sort of wish that I had bought more bravely, but I might well lurk for a pair of the jeans.

XingMing · 26/03/2021 20:50

The sleeves are slim, which makes the look sleek. Now I am quite disappointed I wasn't braver on the buy button, because it feels like I have missed really good workhorse items.

But I couldn't afford it. I just had to replace my specs. Eye watering. But I do need to see.

Floisme · 27/03/2021 10:11

Yes I'm suffering a little prudent buyer's regret too this morning. But then the more things you pick up, the more it slows you down and you risk the thing you want the most selling out before you've paid. So overall I still think focusing on one or two items and then obsessively lurking for returns is the way to go.

And if Uniqlo are serious about wanting to cut down on returns they need to start putting more pics and size/fabric info in the previews. There's really not much point in doing all those meticulous close-up shots for launch day if you just have to grab n' go.

Pigeon31 · 27/03/2021 12:43

Have now had a chance to try the +J pieces - and am pretty happy with them.

The stripey shirt is my absolute favourite. There weren't any pictures of models wearing the point-collar shirts open at the neck, but it looks very sharp. I will get a lot of wear out of having this shirt open at the collar and rolled up at the sleeves with jeans or chinos and it will also look very sharp on work zoom calls so we'll call that a win. I like styles inspired by men's tailoring - the trick is to avoid it looking like school uniform either.

The sheer ribbed top is very loose. Probably a size or so lower would have been better. It will be a good throw-over in hot weather to stop arms from burning and can always belt it. So I do like it but should have got a smaller size.
