xing I can only imagine, I hope you can now enjoy tranquility, as that consultation is over.Flowers
It sounds they are very considerate of the aesthetics, rightly so.
Do you need to be extra careful with anything or can you see some of the people close to you or do things you enjoy?
It must have been a big shock, I send you a huge virtual hug, and cheerful thoughts!
I am definitely not the target of large expensive bras , I can only dream of that …
I hope we can arrange at some point in the future another meet up too! I am itching to see something as nice as the Dior exhibit with you all again.

I haven't been told to do anything other than normal life while I wait the four weeks out! I'm not clinically vulnerable, and I am, as I told the room, in bouncing good health. However odd it may sound, I am secretly thrilled with the bilateral mammoplasty. I've had "more frontage than Selfridges" since I was 16 (lots of posh Belgian-made 32Fs off to Africa) and they reckon they will try for a 32C, which will mean all my clothes still fit but in a more relaxed style. In the short term, I shall go to my local nice bra shop and seek advice on buying a couple of soft bralets to tide me over while the wounds heal. Pilates will be a no no for a while, but I shall probably be able to keep up the abs, hips and legs... just ignore the prone and shoulder work. I imagine walking will be back on the agenda pretty much as soon as I feel okay.

Thanks for all the virtual hugs and bouquets; you have all been as kind and supportive as my friends and family IRL (though I have lied through my teeth to my DM so far). A lovely meet up for something gorgeous is definitely on the cards -- hopefully before Christmas!

That sounds like a lot to process all at once Xing, good to hear you can find some silver lining in it all.

Meetup sounds like a great idea but I don't share the optimism of it happening this year.

I did see the Chanel exhibit here yesterday in a newly renovated fashion museum, the haute couture show was held there as well last week. Heading to a private tour of the ysl museum now. Will report back later.

Also, dithering over a pair of Loewe trousers, not because I don't really like them, but more trousers is a bit of a necessary question to ask myself.

I must admit Xing it had crossed my mind that you'd talked previously about boob reduction.... but then I thought I couldn't possibly say that to someone I'd never even met! I'm very pleased the prognosis sounds so positive and that you're getting lots of real life support. And surely they've said no housework after surgery? Wink

I am glued here for more reports on the YSL museum bo, and the Loewe trousers.

XingMing · 17/07/2021 11:42

Flo, housework is absolutely verboten for months!

botemp · 17/07/2021 11:43

Well you're in luck, I'm waiting on OH to show up for lunch.

YSL visit was very nice, it was more an exhibition about the haute couture fabric houses in Lyon and how he worked with them so I learned lots about fabric and saw velvets which did not look like velvet at all, they had miniscule piles. It was all quite fascinating and suited me well as I'm not that gaga over YSL but he has endeared me with his paper doll couture collection he made when he was 16 and detailed out every, the fabrics, the models, the order, etc. I have some photos but they're a bit crap, the Chanel exhibit definitely had a lightening designer that knew what would work on camera.

Loewe trousers are attached, I like them very much and if something else doesn't steal my heart I'll go back and get them. I think. Even though I don't need more trousers Blush

I just tried on similar pairs (and strangely more expensive) trousers at Margaret Howell but they made me feel nothing. So I suspect the decision is already made.

For those interested I also tried on the Lemaire pockets skirt that's also in the archive sale. They're quite fun but a lot of weight to be carrying around.

Excellent Xing!

I approve of those trousers. And it sounds like Yves would have enjoyed Bunty's cut-out Wardrobe. Best game ever.

XingMing · 17/07/2021 15:26

Aaah... Bunty's wardrobe: nostalgia.

A new range to me (introduced by Lisa Armstrong of the Torygraph, but don't hold it against me, as The Row but at 1/10th the prices) is Storeez.com

Some promising stuff, although a complete disclaimer regarding the quality.

XingMing · 17/07/2021 15:27

Bad link there... 12 Storeez is the brand.

quirkychick · 18/07/2021 20:29

I'm glad the prognosis sounds good, Xing.

Bunty's cut out wardrobe Grin. Not Bunty's, but I had something similar for Christmas one year along with massive set of colouring pens, that I then gave a pretentious name to each colour (every year). I have obviously, always had an interest in clothes and style!

Like the Loewe trousers, bo. What is this too many trousers, that you speak of?

Redandblue11 · 19/07/2021 21:48

Bunty’s cut outs . I agree best game ever.

Glad to hear xing that are are feeling healthy in yourself.

I also approve of the Loewe trousers.

On the fashion front I cannot report anything, I am melting so I am living in a very loose vest and viscose skort. Too hot for anything else.

XingMing · 20/07/2021 11:06

Tropical weight linen here... It's much too hot for a black dog, so we are going out at 7.30 before the mercury climbs, and have fans dotted around. Curtains all closed.

The Loewe trousers are lovely... have you actually bought them, bo?

botemp · 20/07/2021 13:19

Yes, yes I've bought them and already wore them yesterday. It's not that crazy hot here thankfully (back home). I also bought a sort of shirt dress because I had not packed smartly enough for the weather, I'll post pics later.

OP posts:
quirkychick · 21/07/2021 19:32

Looking forward to pics, bo.

Hot and humid here. I was told at school pick up that I looked very Parisian Grin by a mum in a cool, black dress and lovely layered silver, necklaces. I was in navy, anthologies long culottes with my navy, "californian" levi's t-shirt, gladiator sandals and an old straw hat on as outside school is a complete sun trap. I do get compliments every time I wear these culottes, they're pretty versatile too. I perhaps should think about similar style wide-legged jeans.

quirkychick · 21/07/2021 19:34

Sorry, autocorrect has gone a bit mad. The culottes are from anthropologie.

banivani · 22/07/2021 10:21

Sorry for the radio silence on my part. Have actually read some books and worked my way through Taskmaster. ;) So in no particular order:

Bo I’ve been thinking about you and hoping all is safe. It’s a good thing amidst the bad that at least NL is prepared for floods.

Red, thank you for the pictures of the Ocampos - I shall google them for more photos ☺️ I also love the max mara trousers you got!

The power tops are quite cool, I just felt like I couldn’t understand why they had appeared. Bo’s explanation is good thank you! I’m drawn to them myself but they feel much to statement for me and I always feel like I want to make my top half less conspicuous not more ;)

I love herringbone linen What a find that MH blazer was, loved it. Agree that the linen blazer has to be the right colour for versatility - I think we need more dark linen because it carries better into the autumn.

That said and wait ‘til I tell you - I’m after buying a white linen shirt. Years and years of not wearing white because it doesn’t suit me and then I thought fuck it and bought the shirt based on it fitting quite well over the shoulders. And I love it. I feel great in it, I really feel summery. Not the best quality, a bit thin, but again, fuck it. It promptly went on sale two weeks later so I’ve ordered another one now and am considering knocking the white off with a very diluted tea bath. But it might turn to shit so I don’t know.

Oh one more linen colour thing - it’s related to the Swedish saying that you have to sweat in the summer and freeze in the autumn, ie you wear your winter things a bit too long and your summer things ditto as the seasons change. And oddly the linen colour works the other way around - it’s ok to start lighter even though it’s a bit chilly still but feels weirder to wear the light as the weather turns cold?

Loved looking at the Lemaire sale such pretty clothes. Very good pricing in the sales I have to say! Not that I’m buying (I’d need to lose a load of pandemic weight for that 😒), also agree with Xing that it’s the sort of thing you want to try on. Thank you for trying on the pockets skirt Bo, but I’ll go out on a limb here and say they’re a bit atrocious. They do nothing for me, not even fun. They look like backpacker fashion (and if that isn’t a scathing indictment I don’t know what is haha). The Loewes are 😘

Speaking of things that actually cost money, I have done something uncharacteristic for me and bought a pale green linen shirt from a more expensive brand at half price, and paid 750 kr for it. I channeled my husband who doesn’t even look at ordinary high street haha. It’s a lovely colour but I’m fretting because I don’t know if it actually goes with anything so not sure I should keep it.

Sorry to hear about the split Luggage but good luck! ❤️

Huge huge hugs for Xing, you sound so calm but must have been so worried. ❤️❤️❤️ I can understand you seeing the silver lining in a size reduction ;) and I’m glad it’s not worse ❤️

Very cool news about St Phoebe!

Quirky culottes can look soooo cool. I can see this outfit 👍

Slightly petrified at idea of meet-up in my position of least stylish of the bunch 😂

botemp · 22/07/2021 22:18

Am I remembering right that your surgery is tomorrow, Xing? If so, best of luck and hoping for a speedy recovery. Definitely take the Xanax if they offer it Flowers

OP posts:
banivani · 23/07/2021 07:54

Best of luck Xing, hope all goes smoothly ❤️

Floisme · 23/07/2021 09:34

Oh sorry Xing I didn't think it was until August - wow that's fast. Best of luck Flowers

XingMing · 23/07/2021 12:17

No, no... that was proposed initially, but the op is going to be third week of August, pencilled in for the 17th after the surgeon's holiday. But thanks for thinking of me. I am going to break the news to my DM at the weekend; now that thought has me panicking!

botemp · 23/07/2021 12:24

Ah sorry, I must have missed the change to August, I had it as two Fridays after each other in my memory. The Xanax advice might still hold for talking to your DM Wink

OP posts:
AuldAlliance · 23/07/2021 13:07

All the best for when the time comes, Xing. And for telling your DM.

It's 36° here. Too hot for a Scot, even one who's lived in hot climates for over a quarter century.
botemp, I seem to remember you have linen bedding. Would a linen topsheet be cooler than cotton? The sales are on just now, so I could get one for a reasonable price.

botemp · 23/07/2021 13:26

I don't have linen topsheets but theoretically they should be better than cotton as they wick away moisture and don't adjust to body temperature the way cotton does. I think it depends how your nights are though, ours can sometimes go very cold for a few hours and that sudden drop would probably leave me feeling cold with a linen topsheet, and subsequently break my sleep up.

I have some Frette top sheets for hot weather they're quite fine but not super densely woven, it's their cheapest entry line and I've always bought them in the sales or an outlet. They're good for hot nights IME, I've always assumed their Italian heritage was the explanation for that.

OP posts:
AuldAlliance · 23/07/2021 14:01

Thanks, botemp. Forecast is for nighttime temps not to drop below 20° for the next 10 days. I can shift down and sleep in my study on the ground floor where it's cooler, but in my 2nd floor bedroom it's warm even with the window open and after having had shutters and windows shut all day after dawn. I'll see what I can find.

Redandblue11 · 24/07/2021 08:50

xing thinking of you as you will be talking to your DM.

On the fashion front I have a couple of eBay buys that are on their way , a dress from Apiece Apart and silk baggy loose trousers with slits.
