Quirky love that dress on you, it's great with your hair.

The top is 70% viscose 30% linen per the label on mine. What's really interesting is that they obviously did an outlet version that's a viscose / rayon blend www.nordstromrack.com/s/reformation-wisteria-sweater-tank/n3487599?color=ALMOND . I'm betting that the ones on poshmark are the outlet one, but I'd have to email to be sure. I like it because I can wear a thin-strapped bra under it and it's a good length on me. The Khaite top is lovely botemp Must have a look at American Vintage too.

botemp · 03/06/2021 08:09

Really like that jacket quirky, very Rick Owens. Dress is nice too.

Elle, maybe, is it a size S you're looking for as all other sizes seem to be in stock on the Reformation site. But it says waitlist so I assume it'll come back in stock.

Thank you, bo and Elle. I think Vinted might be a bit dangerous Grin. I thought the jacket looked a bit Rick Owens as well. I realised I had also pinned this exact jacket on a Pinterest board. It's really to replace my Mint Velvet pleather one that is peeling Sad, even though I've cut off the offending collar. Mint Velvet is definitely style over substance, I had a (greatly reduced, luckily) pair of jeans from there which fell apart quickly. I would never buy from them again.

I do like that top, Elle, I can see why it's useful.

prettybird · 03/06/2021 08:39

@ToEllewithIt - wasn't me with the jumpsuit Confused I've tried them on in the very distant past but always struggled to find one that suited me. Plus the faff of going to the loo puts me off - although I did have a favourite but long gone all-in-one ski suit. Maybe I should try a summer one on again.

I have a sleeveless linen shirt arriving today or tomorrow, which was my first foray into buying clothes off eBay.

ToEllewithIt · 03/06/2021 08:50

Sorry I must have misread, hope the shirt is a winner.

I did sign up for notifications for a small so fingers crossed

CatherineMaitland · 03/06/2021 12:14

Thanks everyone for the T-shirt tips!

botemp · 03/06/2021 12:44

Yes, Vinted is very dangerous I barely shop anywhere else these days Confused did finally have a stinker the other day in the Equipment short dress, it's quite short and tight on the hips. Maybe it's shrunk, or maybe it's just not a good fit for me and my lockdown arse, I don't know, it just isn't the flowy loose thing I imagined. I can wear it as a shirt though so all is not lost but I don't really need another silk shirt in that colour. Maybe I'll try to pass it on to someone with no thighs.

Speaking of jumpsuits though, I just tried a navy one on in Cos this morning which pleasently surprised me except it's a lyocell/poly mix so didn't pull the trigger but it's got lovely wide legs. It looks like they have an online exclusive version in cotton in black or white but confusingly the white says recycled polyester in the title but not in the composition description and it looks like cotton in the pictures. But a cotton jumpsuit might be a mare to iron, polyester blend suddenly sounds good...

Jumpsuits are us... the posh frock shop has a pop up to shift all the unsold bits for as long as it takes instead of a winter invitation sale. Mine is by an Italian brand called Alysi from last year in ecru with black straps (with minor damage to one strap, already fixed) and wide cropped legs. IIRC it was about £350 -400 last year, but marked down to £70. Plus a new pair of slouchy white trousers at 70% off. Thank you very much!

Floisme · 04/06/2021 10:17

Great work Xing. I'm feeling very Envy of everyone's buys although I've no reason to. I went to my second hand market at the weekend and although I didn't buy anything it was good to see my favourite stalls still going strong, which will keep me off Vinted and Vestiaire a bit longer.

I've been looking at sandals and losing the will to live. Can't believe I'm seriously contemplating ordering some online when how they feel is as important as how they look. But I can only think of 3 shops that are left in town still selling shoes and I can't face going in.

On a more cheerful note, I'm just finishing off these trousers. The instructions, as I think I've mentioned, were kind of sparse but I've muddled through. The shape of the leg is great, the nearest I've seen to those Uniqlo U ones I'm forever obsessing about. Although it was great not to have to fiddle with a zip, I'm still not sure yet how the elasticated waistband will work out - I don't share the S&B strength of feeling against them but they can make the arse a bit droopy unless the fabric's very structured (which it isn't particularly - it's a chino-type cotton). So I'm adding belt loops, which weren't in the pattern as I think a belt will help, and also cover the waistband. Thanks again to whoever recommended the pattern!

quirkychick · 04/06/2021 14:03

Xing your jumpsuit sounds a bargain, I think it would be too much of a fitting issue with Vinted/ebay.

Those trousers look good, flo. I think there are elastic waists and elasticated waists, iyswim. I have a pair of harem trousers in a heavy rayon that have an elastic waist, but fit well.

Nice Cos jumpsuit, bo. The sizing on UK Vinted is weird, medium is listed as a 10, large as a 12. Not helped that I am between sizes, but not a large... Measurements are definitely needed!

prettybird · 04/06/2021 16:47

Sleeveless linen shirt off eBay is perfect. Almost a direct replacement for the Susan Wolff one - except that the SW one had button down breast pockets. Will replace the buttons in this one with the slightly larger Mother-of-Pearl ones on the SW one. They'll still just fit in the buttonholes.

It's a nice length too if I want to wear it "out" and not tucked in.

XingMing · 04/06/2021 16:48

No way would I have bought the jumpsuit online... but I wore it this morning to walk and shop and a local woman I only know by sight (whose garden work outfit I admired from across the road) called across to compliment the outfit and styling. Chuffed, moi? It creases though.

XingMing · 04/06/2021 16:51

Lovely trousers Flo I missed the link earlier, and the sleeveless shirt will be proper useful Pretty. Well done all.

Redandblue11 · 04/06/2021 17:03

Want to see Xing’s jumpsuit! And that woman gardening outfit Blush
I am also admiring Flo’s trousers, the shape looks great. And that top prettybird! Wow everyone has been successful!
Of course , nearly forgot that ace jacket that xing got and Bo’s jumpsuit …
I am not trying to be nice for the sake of it … I do like all the stuff …
Talking about sandals … I have also been looking for some, looking online but I know I will regret an online order.
A couple of years ago I got this suede/leather navy vintage crossbody bag , the strap was thing and very worn out and the other day I came across this bag strap so I got it. I am quite chuffed with it. Looks good with the strap not too long over a simple outfit. Big enough for essentials- phone, mask, keys, hand gel.

XingMing · 04/06/2021 17:20

Those interchangeable straps are very useful, Red.

I hate doing selfies and am completely hopeless at taking them, and Blush I generally use the shower screen as a mirror so I need to borrow DS's wardrobe mirror to tackle such a project. Maybe tomorrow morning while DH walks dog... if I feel brave. T shirts, wrap top and white trousers too, if I get the light right.

XingMing · 04/06/2021 17:26

The gardening outfit was black T-shirt over black dungarees, earrings and work boots... very simple, perfect fit, and so chic. Who says workwear isn't stylish?

Floisme · 05/06/2021 08:52

I think clothes that do a job well and look good are the most stylish of all. These days I find them much more interesting than 'going out' clothes.

I love that style of bag with the clasp fastener Red - I've been looking for a nice vintage one for years - and adding a modern strap is really clever.

Couple of pics from dyeing the charity shop silk shirt. I used 2 packs of grey dye, thought I'd gone too far at first when it came out looking like charcoal but, now it's dry, it's still not quite as Smokey purple as I'd hoped. I can't decide whether or not to have one more go. The stitching hasn't taken the dye so, if I do go much darker, it'll start standing out, and not in a good way. Plus I'll then have spent a tenner on dye which was more than the shirt cost in the first place. Grin

Not surprising that it's proving stubborn though as it was very bright - see second pic. (I only remembered to take it just before sticking it in the dye so it's already wet.)

flo, the silk shirt looks good - I'm a fan of smoky purple. Apparently, you can use a sharpie to colour stitching to match dye, if you can be bothered, though.

I also have a soft spot for utility chic, the outfit sounds great, Xing. As a regular school run/park with dds person, I usually need something practical as well as stylish.

I really like the bag and strap, red. It looks very versatile too.

Floisme · 06/06/2021 12:39

Thanks quirky, I've always been a bit sceptical about the sharpie tip and I assume it only works if the colour match is really close but, if anyone can personally recommend it, I'm all ears. I think otherwise I'll wear the shirt a couple of times and, if the colour's still annoying me, I'll have another go with the grey dye. If I can't take a risk with a £6.99 second hand shirt then when can I?

botemp · 07/06/2021 10:42

The picture is a bit blurry but it looks nice Flo, although more dark than smoky.

I've ordered some sensible sandals they're very Teva like but the marketing is insisting they're the must have cult shoe as seen on fashion editors and sustainable apparently (I'm not all that convinced by their spiel, yes the fabric is vintage bandanas and the soles are bio degradable but it all whiffs of green washing). Also they're Parisian, but going by the name, pretending to be a cool LA independent brand. I tried on some similar looking ones at H&M, more from curiosity and rather liked them, those were all plastic so definitely not an option. Net A Porter et. al. have been pushing them heavily so I suspect I've been had by the algorithms but I need a summer shoe that can walk long distances without needing to be broken in and look somewhat okay so I'm hoping this fits the bill and am also secretly hoping they'll sort of breakup the stiff/formalness in my wardrobe that I'm struggling a bit with atm.

I got ones similar to the middle pic and another pair with shells from Yoox, but must admit at full price I quite like the look of the leather ones, there's also an all white pair exclusive to NAP with beading like the black ones in the middle of the first pic that I really like but I suspect those will probably be a bit much for me. But going with a bit of colour first and also to figure out sizing as they apparently come up small.

Anyhow, I've also noted, that though these shoes aren't a massive investment, it looks like expertly pedicured feet are probably what stops them looking like your average Teva.

Okay, as promised... pictures (appalling ones) of the Me & EM ballet wrap shirt (both) with the new white jeans in one shot and the Alysi jumpsuit in the other.... although I would normally put a black t-shirt under that.

What brand are those sandals Bo?

The jumpsuit looks great xing it has an oriental vibe which I really like.

I don’t have many local shoe shops, so I tried these two couple of sandals at clarks
I am quite tempted by the ugly ones on the left. They are chunky and really comfy. Blush

Les Parisiennes des Mamansnet: For the Love of Well Dressed Women in Repose
XingMing · 08/06/2021 11:17

Thanks Red! The 'ugly' Clarks sandals are very useful... I might have some that are nearly identical.

ToEllewithIt · 08/06/2021 12:32

Are the sandals Arizona Love botemp? I like the leather ones, I’m less keen on the ones with the bandana fabric. I think they do some with pearls too that have Simone Rocha vibes.

Speaking of that, John Rocha’s house is up for sale. It featured in the video about Simone. I have to say I love it, but the kitchen is disappointing in size www.myhome.ie/residential/brochure/43-leeson-park-ranelagh-dublin-6-d06nr40/4498886

red I don’t even think those qualify as “ugly” they look very comfortable.

xing absolutely love both those looks on you, great jumpsuit

Flo I think the colour looks nice

pretty - shirt looks perfect

I’m on the hunt for some tan / brown heeled sandals, either a mid or a block heel with a bit of a boho vibe i.e. not super formal, maybe suede. I thought Chloe might have something, but no.

botemp · 08/06/2021 12:51

Yes, sorry thought I'd mentioned they were Arizona Love. I looked into and they're highly coveted in France but they've got so many colabs with other brands going that I'm fairly sure they're an industry plant playing at Indie overnight success. Also convinced they're just Tevas and a glue gun craft thing 🤣 They also have the leather ones in khaki/dark green leather but frustratingly only on their official site where shipping is €25 plus €6 per item, it's bonkers.

Anyhow, my order is still not dispatched Hmm but I'll see when they get here. I find them a bit difficult to judge (I'm also having that issue with Red's Clark selection) as most shoes look fine from above, or on models with chopstick legs, it's how they look on and from a distance that I care about. A lot of the chunkier clunkier type really anchor me down and make me look shorter and sturdier. The H&M ones didn't though so I'm hopeful, I really just tried them on to see how bad it would look.

Boho seems to be on the outs ATM, Aquazurra might have some options that nod to it. I've always liked these but they're flat and sold out in most sizes but they have similar usually.

There's no price on the house, that was my main curiosity. It looked better on film than photography if I'm honest, it's very late 90s minimalism that probably doesn't look as great anymore up close. I know they're staging pictures but it doesn't really feel like a home that's been lived in.
