There's also these mid heel ones but they're probably a bit marmite.

OP posts:
ToEllewithIt · 08/06/2021 13:54

The price was €3.95m, probably went a bit over that knowing the Dublin market. It'll show up on the register in due course.

Boho was probably the wrong descriptor. I should have stopped at casual. I have two navy dress and I'd like a sandal to wear with them that doesn't make them formal. Does that make sense? There's a plethora of diamanté and suchlike whereas I think I want a plain suede / matte leather block heel. I could do strings around ankles but no beads / fringe etc.

botemp · 08/06/2021 14:16

Yes Boho is all the trim in my mind Blush

So one of these, mostly OOS in a lot of sizes:

www.net-a-porter.com/product/1210946

Although I'm not sure how casual any of these really are, so maybe not the direction either.

Have you looked at LK bennet Elle?

I also should have mentioned that I have a thing about stacked heels. I don't know why, I just do. The Gabriela Hearst ones are a lovely shape and the stacked heel is mostly concealed, but out of stock in my size.

L Bennett - I don't like the shape of the first two and the last has the dreaded stacked heel.

Thanks for the suggestions though. Quite like these Sezane ones:
I've never bought their shoes though. www.sezane.com/en/product/gloria-sandals/camel#size-2

Rocha's house sold quickly enough despite the absolutely wild price of it. :O

Enjoying looking at your jumpsuits and what have you. You're all looking very ready for summer! Some of the photos are a little titchy so I'm having trouble making out the finer details, but it's still nice to see. Grin

Red, there's a Swedish expression "allt klär en skönhet" which means "everything suits a beauty" and thus the Clark sandals certainly don't look ugly on your feet there. ;)

Flo, I would not be sharpie-ing seams on silk tbh. Suspect wouldn't turn out great. Or would take so long you might as well just restitch the bits that show. The purple looks nice, not sure about smokiness. ;)

I'm also still hunting for sandals, if by hunting you mean largely giving up. I definitely want to support local shops mainly but they don't have much. My daughters tell me that it's more "in" to have an ankle strap now, so if you're buying Birkenstocks you choose the ones with an ankle strap. I give you this report from the ca 25 yrs old age group.

I have a navy viscose shirt dress from Uniqlo facing its 3d summer and a black linen/cotton blend one from Part Two facing its 2nd. I want more, but there is nothing in the shops I want to pay for. The closest is the attached image from Stenströms, a really nice colour IRL, but I'm not super keen on the collar and it costs almost 200 euro. So currently I have about 16 Etsy windows open on Bulgarian and Baltic shops that make linen dresses at the 100 euro mark give or take, wondering if it's worth chancing it. So frustrating, both the risk of spending all the money and getting a poor fit and having to resort to fucking Etsy, the worst site of all times.

Sezane shoes aren't the greatest quality IME but they do fit the brief well. I had remembered your dislike of a a stacked heel, otherwise these could have been an option.

These from Sessun are more of a mustard suede but would work well with navy.

I'm not sure about these, could end up being frumpy.

I also like attached from Prada but probably too formal, and too high. Saint Laurent always used to do something in a crossover style in cognac suède, a bit 70s, I thought they always came back in stock but I can't seem to find any.

Nothing here for you Bani? They have some nice linen in the sale, also Baltic made but the shop is in Finland so no effing about with Etsy.

OP posts:
banivani · 08/06/2021 16:13

Ah thanks Bo - I regularly check Voglia but they're a bit... Finnish Wink and are as sparse in colour choices as all the other main stream ones. I do love these trousers www.vogliafinland.com/collections/linen-items/products/wide-leg-trousers-blue obviously Grin but the dresses weren't in the right material or colour. Etsy really has the worst layout ever.

Well thank goodness someone likes us 😊 we seem to be target number one whenever there's some S&B meta thread.

Ah Bani, I forgot the Swedish snobbishness towards their crafty, 'lovely but dim', Finnish cousins. But ok I give you, Voglia really needs to remember to turn the lights on when they take pictures Hmm

Uniqlo has a lot of linen blend in at the moment. No idea if it's any good. Have you not considered making your own, I saw a nice pattern in the sewing shop the other day that would work well for you, I'll see if I can find it on their website.

OP posts:
botemp · 08/06/2021 16:33

I think it's this pattern but not sure as I remember a picture with a bag (I thought it was a pattern for a bag and I liked it which is why I looked at it) but I don't see that picture, but I like that dress pattern anyhow as it has a relaxed feel with the sash but with proper shoulder fit.

Also some options here and here Elle. Attached pic is on La Redoute from the same brand but not on their own site in that colour (they do have a lovely emerald suede though) but I find linking to la redoute never works as the sites differ country to country. Their own site seems to be cheaper but I suspect VAT isn't showing up for me. Incidentally the site reminds me very much of Bobbies, I'm wondering if it's the same parent company.

(Also, sizing is in French)

I know I should make something myself but I’m not feeling it, am a bit depressed and anxious and not in the zone. I’d still have to buy fabric etc so still an outlay and then the worry of not knowing if the pattern would work. I like the one you linked to Bo in theory, have looked at that pattern before but I’m normally not fond of the collar style on me. I feel a bit Maleficent cosplay light. Wink

I’ll have you know I’m an admirer of Finnish clothes in general but I don’t want big patterns, black or white and then where are you? It’s a look and not always for me.

Uniqlo is being very dull at the moment. Possibly (likely) the problem is that I as usual want one specific thing and can’t open my mind to variations. Wink

botemp · 08/06/2021 20:56

Flowers Bani, hope you can get back in the zone soon. These weird times are not helping.

I've not been very productive either, my beautiful Chloe fabric arrived days ago for the wrap trousers and it's just been sitting there. I'm blaming the heat but it's only 22° Blush

OP posts:
Redandblue11 · 09/06/2021 08:34

Flowers for Bani. Very difficult to feel in the zone. I agree.
This thread is like my daily little sweet treat Smile
But hell is tricky sometimes. I am not sure what I want half of the time … 90% of the time more like it.

I will go and get those ‘ugly’ clarks, my mum also told me they are good (she is in Argentina and I normally share with her photos of nice things). Otherwise I know that when I make my mind up it will be October and I will need boots by then.

I am considering painting the woodwork of the stairs myself… I cannot find decorators free anywhere, we just about got the spare bedroom done, which is now permanent office for DH as his work terminated the lease in Canary Wharf so 70 % of the people will be at home.
I am using the lift conversion as my office , but needs a good tidy up. It could look lovely if I put the effort… part of it is that I have been probably in denial and thinking that it will soon pass … if course it will pass (!?) but I think I will be at home much more.

banivani · 09/06/2021 10:05

Lift conversion Grin

Redandblue11 · 09/06/2021 10:14

Yes I have a lift in my house Grin
Well not really Blush a loft, although a lift to get to it sounds a good idea Grin

banivani · 09/06/2021 10:25

I just saw the world's smallest office in my mind's eye Grin

botemp · 09/06/2021 11:25

Grin well I was imagining a far swankier house by OMA in Bordeaux where a central space (which is often staged as an office if it actually gets used like that I'm not sure) is a sort of open elevator that interchangeably becomes the floor. They made a great documentary about it where they follow around the cleaning lady as she attempts to keep it clean and navigate some of the more unusual architectural details. It's brilliant. I've attached the trailer, it's called Koolhaas Houselife, I'm sure it's available to watch somewhere it was free on Vimeo for awhile.

Fab photos Xing - love the jumpsuit. (I was peering at all your books too!)

I'm wearing the silk shirt today - I really like the feel of it in warm weather. You're right, it's not going to go smoky (which my phone insists on rewriting as Smokey). Basically I once had a cardigan in a sublime shade of purple but it itched like hell so I got rid but I've been trying to find or replicate the colour ever since. It's not going to happen though it it?

Incidentally my annoying phone inspired me to google Smokey Robinson to see what he was up to, or even whether he was still around, and he's still going strong and on Twitter so that's cheered me right up.

Oh and I've bought some canvas plimsolls. Not what I needed. At all. I'm just bored senseless looking at sandals.

Flowers for you bani

Floisme · 09/06/2021 11:35

Sorry I x-posted with bo so that was right off topic!

quirkychick · 09/06/2021 13:08

I like those Aquazurra sandals, bo, but I always have a soft spot for gladiator style sandals. red's Clarks sandals look good too - I had a similar pair in pewter, but they were sadly not that comfy with my high instep.

I like the jumpsuit, Xing, it looks perfect for the hot weather.

Thanks for the Shtisel recommendation - was it bo? I binge watched the first two seasons resting with a cold the other week and am catching up with season 3.

ToEllewithIt · 10/06/2021 10:44

Hope you’re alright Bani

Glad you got the sandals Red. Good luck with the loft. Redecorating my loft conversion to office / spare room was my lockdown II project. I moved my desk up there and it’s better, not least because the distance means that the kids need to really really want something to trek up.

Thanks for the sandal suggestions. I really like the La Redoute pair, enough detail to be interesting and that kind of casual vibe that I was struggling to describe. I’ll see if they have them in my size.
