NHS Fife tries to silence nurse - Sandie Peggie vs NHS Fife Health Board and Dr Beth Upton - thread #30

Sandie Peggie, a nurse at Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy (VH), has brought claims in the employment tribunal against her employer; Fife Health Board (the Board) and another employee, Dr B Upton. Ms Peggie’s claims are of sexual harassment, harassment related to a protected belief, indirect discrimination and victimisation. Dr Upton claims to be a transwoman, that is observed as male at birth but asserting a female gender identity.

The Employment Tribunal hearing started on Monday 3 February 2025 and was expected to last 2 weeks. However, after 2 weeks it was not complete and it adjourned part-heard. It resumed on 16 July and the last day of evidence will be 28 July and then there will be 2 days of submissions from counsel meaning that the hearing will end on 30 July.

The hearing commenced with Sandie Peggie giving evidence. Dr Beth Upton gave evidence from Thursday 6 February to Wednesday 12 February.

Access to view the hearing remotely was obtainable by sending an email request to [email protected] by 5pm on Wednesday 9 July. Detailed instructions were provided here:

This is so...

Aghhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

To be clear, the evidence is that immediately after the interaction DU told this witness he couldn’t remember what had been said to him in the CR?

Amazing how his memory improved later then, isn’t it?

Amazing.

Glad he took notes. Oh wait no. He didn't.

INeedAPensieve · 18/07/2025 10:51

Jesus DU is sounding even more like a tedious man child.

Jaws2025 · 18/07/2025 10:51

Waves to another Jaws name 👋
Can I just saw I'm not viewing the tribunal, in case I post something and am mixed up with @jawsnsharks

GargoylesofBeelzebub · 18/07/2025 10:51

The "she" pronouns for a man are really grating.

JR smiling and looking delighted when asking EP what kind of crying was DU doing.

Yes I imagine she was, although of course none of us here can actually see what JR looks like because we are all only commenting from TT or similar.Smile

MarieDeGournay · 18/07/2025 10:50

JR has switched to 'Beth'.

Gah! They’re so far in the wrong emotional blackmail is all they have

pooor pooooor poooooooor Beth

ScrambledSmegs · 18/07/2025 10:52

You can get Mac & Cheese quiche in Waitrose, sounds like they took their inspiration from the macaroni pie. I wouldn't recommend it though, according to DD it's under-seasoned, claggy and 'insipid' (her current favourite word).

Greyskybluesky · 18/07/2025 10:52

There is NO WAY this person is cut out to be a doctor.

NO WAY.

crabbyoldbat · 18/07/2025 10:53

I'm prepared to believe Upton was shaken, upset and sobbing, to be honest. He'd never been told 'no' before, and not treated as special, so it must have been a shock.

I hope this case produces Peak Trans™ in at least a few on-the-fencers. 🤞🏻

SlackJawedDisbeliefXY · 18/07/2025 10:54

NotMyRealAccount · 18/07/2025 10:47

(Not an observer.) I'm picturing the sobbing Dr Upton doing a quick smirking aside to the viewing public.

I'm getting Fleabag vibes

murasaki · 18/07/2025 10:54

Poor giant Upton, cornered by tiny Sandie.

MyAmpleSheep · 18/07/2025 10:54

EP - what I understood to be the tone, the tone was said in an aggressive and an unkind way

Tone police at the door… better open up before they break it down.

Boiledbeetle · 18/07/2025 10:54

I am having to avoid posting. I don't trust myself right now. This is infuriating

Jaws2025 · 18/07/2025 10:55

Is Upton there today? Will he be giving any further evidence during the rest of the trial?

Taytoface · 18/07/2025 10:55

SqueakyDinosaur · 18/07/2025 08:54

I think my GoaT GC moment is still Maya's appeal, when one of the GDC witnesses said how important the management felt it was to embed these cultural changes quickly and quietly. Ben Cooper just said, "And how's that working out for you?"

I think he actually said Would it be unkind of me to ask how that is going? So very Ben.

GetDressedYouMerryGentlemen · 18/07/2025 10:55

Wait now Sandie was 'unkind'. I'm surprised they didn't drag some old furniture out into the car park and burn the witch on the spot. How very dare a woman be unkind? Beth is clearly a much better woman.

Oh and cornered, couldn't get away? Bollox, the whole point is Sandie desperately wanted him to get his male arse out of the female cr so she could deal with her flooding.

I agree. However he’s also stereotyping the upset woman, isn’t he? Ladies sob, men get angry.

To properly count, feelings must be fully externalized

SP's internal distress does not count

nauticant · 18/07/2025 10:56

This testimony would have been back-of-the-net stuff a few years back. What a relief we've moved on.

So glad I'm just following on TT, suspect if I was watching my device would have a cracked screen by now.

Argh, I'm sitting so firmly on my hands I've lost feeling in my fingers.
