Hello, welcome to the sixth instalment (wow!) of the ‘Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus …’ thread smile

We’re a very friendly, supportive group, and all at different stages, but we’re all seeing some real changes in ourselves and our attitudes to food. It’s a long old road, but it helps to chat along the way

Collectively, we’ve lost an incredible…......... 🌟 1205.75lbs 🌟 since the start of the first thread in Dec 16, which is amazing!

We tend to weigh in on Fridays or Saturdays, but feel free to join in at any time, with whatever weight loss method you think works best for you. Some of us have lost more than others, but we're all in this together, so if you're losing, gaining or staying the same, it's nice to have some inspiration to keep going.

We’re always welcoming to newcomers, but as with the previous thread(s), I’ll add one caveat - we’re all here because we are trying to lose a LOT of weight. If you’re looking to lose the last half stone, or even two or three stone, this might not be the thread for you. Good luck with your goals, but you may find more support with in threads with people who have similar goals to you.

Do you feel ready to wear fitted stuff yet? This is really flattering, you just need the right underwear.

(Ps I'm off to sleep now but I'll check in again in the morning Smile)

fezzesarecool · 02/09/2018 00:17

Thanks, I finally feel fat rather than obese (although not out of that category just yet)

In my pictures I’m wearing size 16 top and bottom. But I think if it’s a dress I’d be a 18 as my butt will get the dress to ride up at the back and it’ll be more fitted to get across my stomach.

Definitely ready to wear something fitted now 😄 Although the more I’m describing stuff I’m thinking maybe a top and bottom will bet better as in a dress if it fits my mid section it may not fit right across my bust?

Thanks again

Gain over last fortnight: 4.6lbs (!)
Total loss: 91.8lbs
To go: 9.2lbs

Have lost track of losses/gains as my weight has been so unstable since my medication started changing and my holiday two months ago when my mood started going down the flusher. I didn't manage to stay out of hospital and am now in the bin. I'm 5.4lbs over my lowest weight after using the ward scales just now but was much higher the week before that. I don't know when I can think about starting to lose weight again as I'm having a pretty brutal medication overhaul and tapering off one drug while increasing a new one. All these drugs increase appetite, fuck with your metabolism and can cause weight gain but hopefully I will be no worse off. I have a pass now so will try to get out a run as I am so bored (wards are supposed to be low stimulation but, with all the funding cuts, there are very few activities). My main aim is not to start smoking again as that is the main activity of the patients here! Also might be an idea to eat less of my fellow patients' gluten free cake (two coeliacs in) Grin

fezzes, hope you find a dress you like. I carry weight on my abdomen too and I like wrap styles. Plus you can usually adjust how much cleavage to show.

STS is excellent, moonlight. Has your midwife given you some guidance about weight gain?

Welcome to the newbies Smile Lots of different methods of weight loss being used here. Might be worth reading back over old threads though certainly don't feel it's obligatory. Getting a Fitbit and increasing my walking helped me a lot.

Great NSV, Magic.

Thanks for the new thread, honey (sorry I'm very late on that). I'm not sure what to do about the weight total as I have gained so much. Sorry to let the side down Sad

honeysucklejasmine · 02/09/2018 07:31

Fezzes you look fab. I agree you either want a wrap dress, or an A line that'll hug your boobs and then flare out. Fwiw I'm a 14 top and 16 bottoms now and I can wear size 14 dresses no problem, as long as they aren't fitted round the thighs! I've got the attached hanging in my wardrobe doing nothing if you're interested. It's a Lindy Bop Georgiana in size 20. Will dig it out and measure it - it's supposed to be figure hugging so might work with it being a bit big.

AnotherOtter hey now! There is no letting down of sides! Show me anyone who could manage what you're going through without gaining weight and I'll call you a liar. You've said yourself, this is a journey. It'll go up sometimes, it'll plateau sometimes, but in the end, when everything else in our lives is stable, it'll come down again. Going out for a run would be good - it'll help you feel like you're doing something constructive towards you goal. But also, bloody hell - when you started this would you have dreamed you'd use "going for a run" as something to do for mental well-being and entertainment?!

Wedding guest dress shopping is a nightmare! Chi chi do some nice dresses, this one might suit you as www.chichiclothing.com/products/Chi-Chi-Bryony-Dress.html.
Coast do good separates, worth a look.

PostNotInHaste · 02/09/2018 08:27

AnotherOtter , sorry to hear you’re in hospital Flowers There is absolutely no letting the side down here and i’m bloody impressed you’re thinking about your weight at the moment plus still running.

Fezzes you’re looking good! I am another who carries it most of my weight on tummy and boobs, wrap dresses seem to work well though I am rather new to world of dresses.

With the total it’s a great idea but wondering if it will work as well on here as on the running thread as weight will go up and down unlike running miles so there are two variables instead of one? I know we all rationally know that but might it be a tiny bit demoralising sometimes to feel like you’ve made the number go down if you see what I mean so maybe better if we don’t? Just a thought.

I’m having a bit of a carb nightmare. Am finding that as not running this week don’t need as much of them and running suppresses my appetite a bit so a fine with carbs then. However at the moment they seem to set me off on a bit of a carb fest which is not great. DH kindly went and got some bacon so I could have that and eggs for breakfast instead and I forgot they were there in my bleary eyed moment earlier so brunch is on the cards later and will hopefully knock carb craving on head.

Another reminder if I needed it that nothing stays the same and you have to adapt things as circumstances change. Builders are back in this week and I can see daylight at the end of my bedroom! Luckily the kitchen is not affected so hopefully will be ok to keep up routine. Have seen people say they put on weight through a build so will need to be careful. I know it’s much harder with young children but DS at an age where I’m gutted the holidays are nearly over. Somehow am in the position where this time next year my baby will be going into GCSE year, think I’d better try and appreciate this year and who speeded up time?!

fezzesarecool · 02/09/2018 09:02

Loads of ideas thanks 😄 Really love the Chi Chi dresses they are lovely

How’s this? It’s something I’ve got hidden away (Please excuse the boobs, very limited on the right underwear other than general at the minute)

strawberrypig · 02/09/2018 09:13

Lovely dress Fezzes but too big for you! I think you would look better in something that nips in at the waist to show off your hourglass figure.

ChestyNut · 02/09/2018 09:49
Sad Ovulation week so inevitable gain...

2lb 8oz on
Total - 59lb 8oz
To lose- 40 lb 8oz

I know I’m going to gain every 4 weeks but still makes me miserable! Was expecting 2lb so that extra 1/2lb is annoying.
On a more positive note it was 10 year anniversary of DF death this week and normally I would binge, Ive had the urges but not eaten extra.
Haven’t eaten any different so guess I’ll just KOKO.

I agree as with Post as someone who gains once a month, I’d find it demoralising to post the new thread total knowing I’d made it less?

Another sorry you’re in hospital. Concentrate on getting well and we’ll be hear when your ready Flowers

JacNaylor · 02/09/2018 10:05

The amounts some people have lost are really inspirational, well done!!
@ChestyNut well done for sticking with it though, I'm similar in that weight sticks at certain times of the month and it can be a real temptation to give up can't it? Keep going though!
@fezzesarecool I really like that dress but it's dependent on getting the right bra, something that pushes you up without showing under it... do you have something in mind?
I absolutely love the dresses the @sourpatchkid showed earlier, may have to treat myself 😊

ChestyNut · 02/09/2018 10:10

Jac it’s demoralising isn’t it!
Only 2 weigh days until my holiday so feeling the pressure to lose before the inevitable stone gain Grin

My plan for the week is
No lolly on a night every night
Proper meals including veg, less snacky meals
Breakfast

It’s crazy that I can’t really “see” that I look different but I tried my uniform dress on that was tight on me at the start and it is positively tent like. Might go put it back on to cheer self up Grin

honeysucklejasmine · 02/09/2018 10:25

Good point on the thread totals. Nevermind, I'll do my best impersonation of Tractors and keep a quiet tally for each new thread. 😊

Stayed the same this week. Fair enough really as I ate loads 3 days out of 7. I'll take as a positive that I recognise what I ate was loads and that it's no longer an every day thing! So, winning.

Also, I had a lovely week and it was delicious. It's a bit annoying that it came after my minute loss last week so I feel like I've been stranded under 5 stone loss for ages! I need to lose 2.5lbs to hit it and it's taking ages!

AnotherOtter · 02/09/2018 10:40

Love that colour on you fezzes! Agree that a new bra would be good. If you have a Bravissimo near you then maybe book a fitting (they are usually too busy for walk ins at my nearest one) and take the dress with you. Let the assistant go through all the styles to get the perfect one. But strawberry might be right in that the dress is just too big. Be easier to tell with the perfect bra.

Thanks for the kind words, folk, about my current situation. Got out a run and have so far avoided cake (though considering it is only 10:30am that is not really much of an accomplishment! Smile)

strawberrypig · 02/09/2018 14:33

Just my opinion but I think that a gain shouldn't knock lbs off the running total. For instance, if I aimed to lose half a stone in a month and part of the way through put on three pounds because I ovulated, or celebrated my birthday, I would then have to work twice as hard to achieve the half stone off. I would have to lose 10lbs altogether and those extra 3lbs would be a real achievement.

We can't stop life happening, putting small quantities of weight because of things happening is not a bad thing if it is the exception and not the norm. This is how it is going to be for the rest of our lives if we are to keep off the 100lbs permanently.

The biggest motto in this group of losers is KOKO and any day we have blips we underline and start again the next day. I think treating gains in this way would be great for positive thinking, only loses effect the total and not gains.

sourpatchkid · 02/09/2018 14:42

Sorry I'm not fully keeping up with the posts but everyone is doing so well. Small gains in comparison to huge losses, you've so much to be proud of!

In terms of bras for those in between sizes - Asda's t shirt bras for £4 are brilliant

strawberrypig · 02/09/2018 14:49

Forgot to put my own numbers for this week!

Week 15

This weeks loss 2lbs
Total loss 31lbs

Still to go 69lbs

Group total is now 1223.75lbs

Which is equivalent to
A small hippo,
or a horse and it's foal,
or maybe 17 Irish wolfhounds
or perhaps 9790 sausages!

I think we are all doing rather well.

PostNotInHaste · 02/09/2018 15:18

I think strawberrypig makes an excellent point and accepting the gains is an important part of KOKO. It’s very kind of Honeysuckle to offer to keep track but will be more work for her than if we just take losses only off the total.

Honeysuckle agree that recognising what you ate is a lot is a big positive. See what happens next week, fully understand the frustration of a few pounds feeling like they take forever but I think it’s part of it unfortunately.

Chesty ovulation gain is a PITA, my sympathies. Never really knew it was a thing until recently when between that and PMT is sometimes feels like there’s only about one week in the month which is anywhere near ‘normal’. I’m planning on a 3lb range for target weight. Can I just say your uniform is looking bloody massive on you over there Grin . HVe a great holiday. on the clothes too big subject Fezzes lovely dress but get something smaller!! Jac, get shopping..

Otter glad you made it for a run. Personally I think avoiding cake is excellent whatever the time of day as I am very capable of eat8ng it any time of day and night.

Well done Strawberrypig very close to a third of it done and dusted now and agree we are actually really rather good. That’s a lot of sausages..

Sourpatchkid thanks for the bra tip, I could do with new ones.

Just been on my bike for first time in years and survived though DH put my saddle too low than brought nothing to higher it with so my knees felt like they were under my armpits and I couldn’t pedal up the steep hill. He is redeeming himself fitting a quick release thingy instead and I’m looking longingly at Dutch bikes and cursing the fact I live somewhere hilly.

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 02/09/2018 15:24

Hi all - bit upset at all the controversy that a total has caused! If I clarify what and how I’ve done things in the past, you can do what you like with it going forward.

The thread total was something I’ve done a couple of times per thread (every 500 posts or so) as a form of motivation, and a bit of fun. I was careful to do it this way, so no-one felt they were either, letting the side down if the STS or gained, or that they were carrying the thread, if they were consistently losing weight. I’m also mindful that several people had/have issues with disordered eating and/or feelings that aren’t helped by numbers, and didn’t want to exacerbate that in any way, shape or form.

I don’t have a running total of everyone’s losses - I’d just look at the last total, and skim through the thread adding or subtracting accordingly. If someone is weighing in kg, then you multiply by 2.2 to get the lbs equivalent. If someone joins the thread already having lost weight, I didn’t add that - just the weight lost whilst on the thread. All in all, it takes about 10 mins to create a new total.

I did include the gains, because I think it’s a more realistic overall total - of course we all gain and lose throughout the month, but if I’ve gained 2lbs, and lost 1lb in a month, I’d be kidding myself that was a proper loss. As I’ve avoided being honest about my weight for so many years, I think that would be counterintuitive to what I’m trying to achieve. Others may feel differently!

So with that little explanation, I really am bowing out, and hope this little hijack doesn’t move the thread away from what has been a great source of support for me and others over the months. KOKO folks!

AnotherOtter · 02/09/2018 16:37

I think we might all be talking about different things with the weight loss total. Think it was FATE who suggested doing a cumulative total with each person adding to the total individually at the end of their own post like the running thread. In that thread, the total is reset every month. Then think fezzes suggested a weekly total to tie in with the weekly weigh ins that some of us do. And now I have started a bit of a confusion about what to do about gains with my throwaway comment about "letting the side down". My preference is to keep on with Tractors method of occasional totals as I quite liked that and it required no effort on my part Grin Lots of options here so weigh in, folk (see what I did there? ;)

ChestyNut · 02/09/2018 16:45

I also liked the occasional totals in a kind of random “Wow look what we’ve all achieved” way.
I realise that is a pain for someone to do though.

PostNotInHaste · 02/09/2018 16:47

I think on balance my personal preference would be to have an occasional total as liked the surprise and am a creature but also recognise that does mean it falls on one person and threads evolve. Liking your work there Otter Wink

fezzesarecool · 02/09/2018 16:58

I think the total should include gains and losses only because if I was posting my weigh it I will change my total loss if I’ve gained.

But then keeping the running total for everyone might turn into a negative thing if people think they are affecting it.

So maybe we could all just say towards the end of the thread what we’ve each loss during this time? Which will be motivating to thing wow since thread 6 I’m x amount lighter. As in my slow months I look back and think actually overall I didn’t do too bad.

Just a idea.

fezzesarecool · 02/09/2018 19:16

How about this one?

Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus... Part 6!
FATEdestiny · 02/09/2018 19:44

There need be nothing exact about a running total. It doesn't matter is someone does not wish to join in at all, or does not wish to change the total with their weight check.

I was thinking it's just a light hearted bit of "look how great we all are" motivation.

I wouldn't subtract gains. Only celebrate losses. It's a celebration figure only and has no need to be exact.

By individuals keeping the total figure going, it then becomes their own choice to add to it or not. You can still post your weight to the thread if you want and not update the total. Or not post your weigh-in to the thread at all, which I do some weeks. It doesn't matter and takes nothing away from our group achievements.

It's meant to be a positive thing. Never, ever negative.

Oh, and if it was me I'd zero the total figure periodically. Maybe per thread. So we could start a new thread saying how much we all lost in the last thread, then zero the counter and try to beat it Smile. Then if so inclined the totals from all historic threads could be added up, but the tally would be per thread.

FATEdestiny · 02/09/2018 19:48

In other news, I've been on Brownie Pack Holiday this weekend (I'm a Tawny Owl at a brownie pack).

Beige carb and processed sugar galore 🍞🍕🍔🍟🍦🍨🍰🍫🍬🍧🍭🍩
I feel like I've eaten about 8000 calories a day for the weekend. Eek 🐷🙈

Not looking forward to standing on the scales AT ALL.
