We’re a very friendly, supportive group, and all at different stages, but we’re all seeing some real changes in ourselves and our attitudes to food. It’s a long old road, but it helps to chat along the way

Collectively, we’ve lost an incredible…......... 🌟 1205.75lbs 🌟 since the start of the first thread in Dec 16, which is amazing!

We tend to weigh in on Fridays or Saturdays, but feel free to join in at any time, with whatever weight loss method you think works best for you. Some of us have lost more than others, but we're all in this together, so if you're losing, gaining or staying the same, it's nice to have some inspiration to keep going.

We’re always welcoming to newcomers, but as with the previous thread(s), I’ll add one caveat - we’re all here because we are trying to lose a LOT of weight. If you’re looking to lose the last half stone, or even two or three stone, this might not be the thread for you. Good luck with your goals, but you may find more support with in threads with people who have similar goals to you.

Thanks honeysuckle!

Just done 20 minutes on the exercise bike, so unfit. I'm going to try to do it every day.

fattyboomboomboom · 04/09/2018 01:46

Fezzes - just caught up the whole thread now. For the wedding how about black slinky trousers, heels and a wrap top?

fezzesarecool · 04/09/2018 06:01

Numberofthemouse I’m not completely ruling it out but I’m thinking that after a weekend on my own with the kids, then Sunday 6 hours on my feet (retail) then straight back into doing the kids dinner, bed, checking everything’s ready for school that I won’t be doing it. I’ll be better off getting up 5am if I can.

I must say I’m not 100% about doing 30 day’s with no rest break as everything I’ve read is to have rest days but I don’t mind too much just to do this program.

fattyboomboomboom Weclome! I’ve got a wrap top ordered too thanks, I think I would prefer the top and would get more use out of it. But then I think that the last time I went to a wedding I wore top and bottom as it looked less hideous than a dress on me. I feel a bit like if I don’t wear a dress them I’m still too big (screwed up thinking) but I’ll see when both outfits come.

NSV, dd’s first day of big school! 😪 I will easily be able to do the school run without losing my breathe and embarrassing myself. More importantly although I’m still big Im not enormous and won’t be embarrassing by dd by my weight 😄 Not that she’s ever said anything like that but I was scared about it and it’s not fair on her.

FATEdestiny · 04/09/2018 08:15

I have so much to lose that I will be around for a looooooong time

I had the same amount of weight to lose as you at the start of 2018 - 7st 7lb to get to a healthy BMI, 105lb. As of today I have lost 95 of those pounds - less than a stone to go!

So you could well not be here for all that long. By next summer you could be wearing a size 10.

FATEdestiny · 04/09/2018 08:18

Ohhh big school fezzesarecool, that's a big deal. Post later you let us know how drop off went for you and DD. I have another year at nursery with my youngest DD. I'm looking forward to them going back tomorrow though!

fezzesarecool · 04/09/2018 08:34

FATEdestiny Very bittersweet today! Looking forward to dd going so I can get my house back but she’s growing up far too quickly!

Numberofthemouse · 04/09/2018 08:48

fezzes big school! That's very exciting, hope she has a good day!
5am is very hardcore!
I have amazing DOMs, but that's not surprising considering I'm squatting just over 17 stone. Going to have some protein, then try and shred before lunch

Numberofthemouse · 04/09/2018 08:49

And welcome fatty!

fezzesarecool · 04/09/2018 09:22

Numberofthemouse Don’t think too badly if I don’t manage to get up at 5am to exercise! 🤣

Plans to scrub to house later rather than mindlessly eating my feelings while dd’s at school!

Numberofthemouse · 04/09/2018 09:32

fezzes no, of course not! I'm v impressed by your 7 day run!

honeysucklejasmine · 04/09/2018 10:13

Hi all. I'm really feeling an energy low at the moment. Any tips for getting more energy? Usually I'd have something sugary, but that defeats the object now!

I have decided to do like Fezzes and not eat back my exercise calories except on special occasions. I want to get in to exercise for its own sake, and away from food as a reward.

I'm also going to remember my own advice about mindful eating, and try to have things which take longer to eat and require attention, rather than something I can shove in my gob quickly. My kids aren't exactly quick eaters so I don't need to be either.

So, today for lunch is leftover lentil bolognese and a pitta bread, with carrot sticks and houmous. And dinner is red wine and mushroom risotto with frozen veg on the side. What are you eating today?

Numberofthemouse · 04/09/2018 10:33

honeysuckle excercise? I'm still slightly high after yesterday. Some good, dark chocolate?
Food today
B: 2 eggs and 1 toast
L: lentil curry with courgette and some chicken
D: probably a stroganoff and wild rice I had made at the weekend
S: sausumas or banana

Your risotto sounds lovely!

fezzesarecool · 04/09/2018 10:36

honeysucklejasmine I’ve found keeping my exercise calories as a bonus has really helped with the weight loss and if you need to try eating back just half as the exercise calories are always the amount you think they are. Also great as you said on special occasions as you can relax on your intake as you’ve already worked that off 😄

Interestingly enough if I do a mpf weight prediction there’s a difference of 6 pounds before adding in the exercise calories.

fezzesarecool · 04/09/2018 10:36

(Can you tell I’m nervously sitting around the house today?!)

FATEdestiny · 04/09/2018 11:04

See, I don't think about exercise in terms of calorie deficit or weight loss at all.

I run 5k minimum every day, 7 days a week. Takes 30-35 mins (plus a 10 mins walk home and cool down). Nowadays my 5k burns around 300cal. I'd burn 180cal with 30 min just walking and probably 100cal half an hour pottering around the house. So the calorie burn isn't significant.

My aim as a new years resolution was to get healthy. While losing weight is part of that aim, daily exercise as a lifestyle choice is as important.

The British Heart Foundation (and in turn the NHS) recommend at least 30 minutes exercise at a cardio level, 5 times a week. That is why I exercise, to have a healthy heart.

I find the calorie burn of a half hour run negligible anyway. So I just eat if I'm hungry, don't if I'm not, and how much I eat isn't related to my exercise unless I run over 75 minutes.

I try to do a long run if I've indulged in any way, as "pay back". And if I run over 90 mins in one go, or more than three 60+ min runs in a week, then I need to eat more otherwise I just couldn't do the runs. And I enjoy the long runs most, so I'm happy to eat in order to enable me to do something I enjoy.

fezzesarecool · 04/09/2018 11:19

FATEdestiny I think it’s is exactly why I want to find my exercise ‘thing’ for maintenance.

I started off with exercise to get healthy and then my diet followed a few weeks later. I just wanted to be able to be fit for my age.

Then with the whole calorie counting way I decided to go I thought that as long as my intake was within a healthy limit and I wasn’t hungry that there was no point eating back the calories.

Now I’m keeping it separate from my diet by not eating it back so my diet is not dependent on whether I exercise or not and a bonus to the weight loss and there for when I fancy a treat or need more.

I do a refeed day once a week of maintenance calories and before starting the 30 day shred, no exercise at all in a Sunday as I normally do a 6 hour shift (standing) so that’s normally the refeed day.

But I do want to be more like FATEdestiny as in I find my thing exercise wise that is something I do as now the diet side is definitely a way of eating now (although still working on getting it more healthy.)

PostNotInHaste · 04/09/2018 11:34

You’re both so good, I run to eat cake Grin

(And to be healthy plus I like it)

PostNotInHaste · 04/09/2018 11:38

Honeysuckle, I find I need a certain level of carbs if I’m fairly active , had to increase them at one point and I wasn’t trying to be low carb. Also making sure I don’t spike insulin can help, keeping sweet things with meals and I try to use lower GI foods. A decent amount of protein helps me feel full longer.

fezzesarecool · 04/09/2018 11:46

PostNotInHaste I think once I get to a certain weight I’ll have to exercise to keep a good loss going Lol I could put a cake in front of me as my motivation!

fezzesarecool · 04/09/2018 11:49

Tick tock, tick tock Blomming induction afternoons, shame we didn’t get the morning sessions!

PostNotInHaste · 04/09/2018 12:05

If it helps you could have a photo so you can look but not eat ! I think I read somewhere that studies found those that lost weight and kept it off long term all exercised regularly. I have a Fitbit and the difference in calories burned straight after hospital versus usual routine is very substantial so can see that exercise does give you the leeway foodwise to accommodate the things that crop up without needing to worry so much.

Any loss I’ve had this year and the rest of my loss will be from exercise I’m eating now as if at maintenance and going for a tiny deficit , though at the moment trying to redeem myself for last week. Got to the stage now where I need it or feel sluggish, something I never thought I’d say. I like being out doors and how exercise makes me feel and enjoy having a more active lifestyle.

DH joined me at the start and lost a couple of stone. He’s just sorting his phone to put MFP back on it as has put 11.5lbs back on. This was the first time he’s ever needed to lose weight in his life and he never had to think about his weight. I think he’s finding it a bit depressing how it has crept back on again. He has to accommodate T1 diabetes though which does complicate things,

Right, am very late today as got sidetracked moving furniture, better walk the poor dog 🐶

honeysucklejasmine · 04/09/2018 13:07

fate that's absolutely the attitude I want to have - exercise for the sake of exercise.

Hope all's going well Fezzes. I am so scared about DD going to preschool next year - I'll be a mess when she starts school!

Really interesting few posts there, thanks ladies. Lots to think about.

FATEdestiny that's amazing! 5k every day.

Agree re calories. I only ever lost weight through diet, even when burning 800 calories a day cycling 20 miles.
Shred level 2 day 2 done. I think my legs will fall off soon

PostNotInHaste · 04/09/2018 14:11

Was thinking about this on walk. I do execise for health but also it does keep mean I can keep my daily calorie intake pretty high. At nearly 49 I’m very aware that things will change in a few years time and I’ll have to gradually reduce over the years so am mak8ng sure I start from as high a starting point as possible if that makes sense.

fezzesarecool · 04/09/2018 14:27

PostNotInHaste Very true, I’ve also read that if you’ve been obese for so long and lose weight then the maintenance calories will be less than if we were always in a healthy range So definitely need to keep the exercise on
