I've not worn my "alabaster" jeans yet out in public Wink - it's been far too cold here in Scotland Hmm

ToEllewithIt · 14/05/2021 07:03

Alabaster jeans. I like it, sounds more chic. Jeans will definitely versatile pretty

I flirt with embracing my waves too red but I don’t have the commitment for it.

I had lots to say about the various discussions threads but I’ve forgotten now and I’m on my phone so have pictures instead. The shops are back open by appointment. What I wore shopping, a random outfit and a dress that I tried on. I kept thinking of you lot and it would be very easy to see I think... says she who has no intention of trying. I don’t need another black midi so I didn’t buy it.

prettybird · 14/05/2021 08:05

"Alabaster" is the colour that they're described as on the label Wink

XingMing · 14/05/2021 09:37

Been wondering where everyone had gone, and was dreaming of pictures from everyone. Like the shopping outfit and the jeans Elle. Congratulations to pretty on the creamy jeans and the weight-loss.

It's been grim weather here, ever since we brought the garden table out of the cellar. However, my hairdresser appointment rolled around yesterday, so I no longer look like electrocuted Einstein We've had brief visits from DS, and Tesco restocked on the T-shirts that I liked back in December... so I bought five more (two white, plus shocking pink, navy, and cream with a teal print). I know, I promised pictures but I hate the app so doing/transferring pics is a pain.

Floisme · 14/05/2021 10:00

All these Jean pics are making me wonder if it's time to get the Gap Long n' Leans out of the cupboard. But a) I might find out my arse isn't as trim as it used to be and b) the shoe thing.

CatherineMaitland are you any closer to moving?

Redandblue11 · 14/05/2021 10:12

I have also been thinking about catherine’s move.
Ok Bani. I will keep in my mind an image of stitching made by a Mother Earth Swedish princess. Ok, I am talking nonsense now.

I like the first pair of trousers Elle, specially the colour, are those yours or trying?
If I could be bothered I would take a couple of photos of stuff to share as I also love seeing photos you you and inspires me… but is dark and damp … so I cannot face trying stuff …

Redandblue11 · 14/05/2021 10:13

Elle , did your mum decide on any dress?

CatherineMaitland · 14/05/2021 10:41

Technically we have a completion date of 4th June but who knows. Still waiting on a couple of enquiries. I'm very mistrustful now that we will get to the end point after three previous bad experiences (although this been the smoothest so far) I'm sure the system doesn't have to be this stupid and bad...!

Weather is awful here too - I knew we'd pay for April in May. :)

Floisme · 14/05/2021 14:55

Fingers crossed for you Catherine

My +J cotton linen trousers have arrived and now I'm doubly cross with myself because not only do I not need any more trousers, I paid full price for them and now they're reduced. No I cannot be arsed ordering another pair to get a reduction and besides, I'd have to pay postage plus returns for these and it just doesn't seem worth it. But if anyone else is interested, they're a nice slouchy fit. Some reviews complained their usual size was too loose but I like them this way. Fabric feels good - I don't think it's quite the same mix as that linen dress bo and Elle (? I think) ordered as these more cotton than linen, but with trousers I don't see that as a bad thing.

So I think they're staying but that really is it now - no more buying trousers until I've had a go at making some myself.

ToEllewithIt · 14/05/2021 16:41

Glad you got your hair done xing

Trousers sound great flo. Impressed that you're contemplating making your own.

red yes she went with a pale pink Stella McCartney one. I posted a picture before. It has a chain detail at the neck. I'm not wild about the colour on her but she has a bit of a last minute wobble over the formality level. The wedding is tomorrow so I'll try to get a picture.

Catherine glad to hear that at least there is a proposed date.

Redandblue11 · 14/05/2021 18:19

Fingers and everything crossed for you catherine!
Oh I am sure your mum will look great elle, enjoy the wedding and I hope you get decent weather.
I saw this barbour for MH poncho version of flo jacket?! on ebay. as much as i like the idea of it, yes the idea… i think I will look lost in it and the colour might not be great on my complexion …
The trousers look good flo. Making your own? Wow.

Ooh it's been busy on here, I was away on the holiday (not netmums Hmm haha AC changed it to netnuns 😂) that got cancelled in January. Lots to catch up on and I've been on a bit of a Vinted binge Blush

I'm very curious about Bani's embroidery too, I've always written it off as boring and fuddy duddy but a few Dior videos recently have been intriguing me where they screen printed fabric and then went over it with a sort of free style embroidery fill in. I'm imagining Bani doing the same as that since she won't show us Wink

Does the Swedish shop send to the EU, I could do with some wide linen for curtains that don't cost the earth as that room is very sunny so everything discolours very quickly.

Ooh I love alabaster (although don't like it seeing used for complexion makeup for some reason) looking good Pretty Smile

Looking great too Elle, I'm jealous you still have shops by appointment, now that they're back open normally here it's just long lines out the door. No fun, I even went at odd times and it's still busy but currently lots of free days/school holidays so that probably has something to do with it.

🤞 For Catherine, really hope this is the one and you never have to move again.

Flo, you can always email Uniqlo and complain about the price reduction, sometimes they'll refund or give you a discount on your next purchase. Nothing ventured nothing gained and all that, 'tis the Dutch way (nah, we're just frugal fuckers who will argue for days over a five cent price difference Halo).

Anyhow, back to me and my Vinted habit, Céline trousers came in before I left, they're great but need taking in and my tailor is very slow at the moment so hopefully I'll be able to wear them sometime this summer... they are a bit, dare I say it, formal looking, things have gotten really casual here, as in, I feel overdressed with lipstick on. It's been causing a bit of a crisis over my wardrobe tbh, it's all feeling far too dressed up at the moment and people are looking at me funny.

I need to go pick up in a bit a pair of Loewe cargo trousers that are somewhat barrel/balloon shaped that arrived while I was away. They're a bit of a project as they're a true sample and have no lining and a bit has been cut off from the waistband Confused but all easily fixable by me. Hoping they're as good as they look in my head.

Also snapped up an Equipment signature silk shirt dress in a charcoal grey (I've been rediscovering grey) that's about mid thigh, hoping it's actually around that length on me.

And pounced on my Toteme trousers in black at a bargain price. I'm usually not a fan of owning multiple items in different colours that isn't underwear but I wear the white version a lot in summer and I'll be sad if they ever expire so I figure it'll expand the life of those with an alternate.

Want to attach pics but MN is being difficult about posting them Confused

I also managed to finish my nice weather dress in chambray before the nice weather that turned out to be a bust (the weather, not the dress), will share pics when MN works normally for me again.

Oh weird, I removed the pics as it wasn't posting but now it's posted with the pics Confused can anyone else see them?

OP posts:
Redandblue11 · 15/05/2021 09:32

I can see two pics Bo.
Holiday?? Envy

Floisme · 15/05/2021 11:15

I can see what I think are the Totem trousers and the Equipment dress - smart work! Looking forward to the barrel legged cargos and pics of the dress you've made. Good idea about emailing Uniqlo, I might do that - except if they offer me a discount then I'll have to buy something else and it'll never end Grin

What are holidays please?

I went into town for the first time in several months, walked around M&S, which was one of the few shops that had reopened, and came away. I was expecting it to be grim (it wasn't great in December) but it was still a shock to see so many places shuttered up. It also stank of weed so I suppose at least I got mildly stoned for free.

Red I think I remember that MH for Barbour poncho but didn't study it closely as I wanted a more fitted shape, plus it looked as if you had to pull it on and off which seemed kind of impractical and not at all like Margaret Howell. But I might be wrong - are those poppers functional do you know?

botemp · 15/05/2021 12:54

Yeah the shut up businesses are a bit of a downer. It's mostly restaurants and gift shops here though. One high end secondhand shop has shut their shop and gone completely digital (they started out like that) they accept returns and you can visit their showroom by appointment but I always enjoyed browsing there.

The Loewe trousers are better than I anticipated, but their magnificence isn't translating as strongly in my crap photos as they're confusing the camera and distorting perspective and my background remover app now wants money for the crisper cut outs Sad I'm very pleased with them though even if they are a smidge too high waisted but not into my ribcage so manageable. It has a contrast colour fabric at the back, usually not a fan of that but it works here.

Ok, that took far too long to get posted with pics, I'll attempt posting the chambray dress pics later.

Redandblue11 · 15/05/2021 16:04

The Loewe trousers are fab!
I think the poppers of the MH poncho are not functional… agree , not practical at all.
I went to a second hand shop and tried these viscose Yaya pyjama trousers, very reasonable and I got them as think they are great for working from home. I liked the weight of the fabric and feel.
I also tried this monki tee. Don’t zoom in … my jeans are muddy as was walking in the countryside this am, so ignore socks etc .

Elle, I love those brown trousers with the black top

banivani · 16/05/2021 22:16

Oh, I forgot, the linen shop - I can't see that they do ship abroad but I can email and ask if you want - these are the extra wide fabrics anyway

Floisme · 17/05/2021 10:32

You're right again bani it's not so much the trousers that are slouchy, it's that I can slouch around in them on account of their having decent, deep pockets, which you don't always get with a narrow leg. The pockets aren't for my stuff, they're for my hands. I need them. I hear you about a pic. I'm just finishing off another shirt so, when it's ready, I'll take one of them both.

Embroidery and I never got along so I'm very impressed that you're keeping the tradition alive.

I love those Loewe trousers. Pockets again - yes it's a ridiculous place to have them but, if you're fuller of thigh, it's also genius.
That T shirt's a really nice fit Red - did you get it?

ToEllewithIt · 17/05/2021 10:47

The trousers are “bargain” Céline from 3 years ago. I posted here at the time. Essentially I found them on the odds and ends rail that appears in the designer section at the very end of the sale with everything heavily discounted. These were 75 or 80 % off. It’s always worth a rummage on those rails. My tactic is to ignore any items that there are multiples of. I can nearly guarantee that there is something so heinously wrong with them that they are essentially unwearable whether it’s too tight armholes or ruching that creates the illusion of multiple stomach pouches no matter how thin the wearer. You want to look out for the single items and if they look a bit creased like they may have been a return so much the better.

Bani the embroidery is adorable

Flo definitely worth an email. I’ve have success with that before sort of saying rather than me having to return and repurchase, want to just give me the discount? Gap used to have a great policy of doing it just on production of the receipt if it went on sale within 14 days of purchase.

bo great trousers - shape is sort of harem-but-make-it-practical

red I like the t-shirt and your jeans are really nice too.

luggageandbags · 17/05/2021 13:04

I have been reading but not posting.

I'm not feeling particularly inspired, the Lemaire dress project is sitting on the hanger untouched for the past few weeks. I did have my first order from Everlane - a very standard charcoal grey cashmere crew neck that I'm wearing all the time. England is so cold and rainy at the moment. All my summer clothes - along with my summer dressing mind - are still in the attic.

botemp · 17/05/2021 13:32

The crap weather is definitely uninspiring luggage, speaking of dresses, hoping to attach my finished sewing project when I was promised 26° weather. I think I'll be waiting a long time for that going by current predictions Hmm I wanted a lowered back silhouette, so the waist is slightly slanted down from the side view, it's a bit of a vintage silhouette as it was part of the new look from Dior and I don't think it's ever returned but it works really well for me, the elastic waist sort of hides it a bit on my mannequin as she has no bum. My cutting anxiety proved to be true though as I only had enough fabric left to make a matching face mask, it was very tight.

Thanks for the Loewe trousers love, I did wonder if the pockets would annoy me too but they're not noticeably present when wearing them, and like Flo says, much better position for them if you're generous in the thigh area as I'd have to go very baggy otherwise (I wouldn't say no to some very baggy silk cargo trousers though).

I'm getting all nostalgic for the luxury department store end of sale rack of rejects, I remember when you so successfully snatched those Elle. I always think it's a late return when there's an unprecedented gem in there. I'm not sure this summer sale will see much gems, my local LDS has bought very little for this season and very cautious choices only.
