Mamans - no shipments to the UK from Comptoir des Cotonniers due to sanitary reasons?!

Gutted! Does anyone know if this is all French retailers?

That totally reads like they think you're gross and don't wipe your bum Shock actual sanitary restrictions, as opposed to what, imagined ones Confused who came up with that?!

Try www.placedestendances.com/uk/en it's the Printemps' online store, free shipping and returns over £70, pretty sure they stock CDC, buy maybe not the entire collection. Sign up for an account as they currently have a VIP sale and I'm not sure you can access it without an account.

botemp · 28/12/2020 21:13

Oh never mind, just closing the tab for the link and the sale is easily accessible on the front page 🤦 no need for an account...

Retracting again Blush it appears they no longer carry CDC. They definitely did in the past, not sure what's going on. Galeries Lafayette (which is a hastle to order with) don't carry them online either and also used to. They can't be going bust, surely Shock they're owned by Uniqlo so that wouldn't seem likely... Sorry, don't know anyone else that sells them.

OP posts:
Floisme · 28/12/2020 22:06

Is that because they don't want to handle returns?

PersonaNonGarter · 29/12/2020 00:12

Thanks, Bo.

I think it must be, Flo. I sort of understand that but it’s a bit weird, since I think the virus can’t live on cardboard for very long. It seems a wee bit pitchfork-y.

I haven’t actually tried to buy anything, I was just browsing - maybe we can still buy, but they won’t ship yet. I had things that I hope to get from a couple of French retailers tho, so I really hope the refusal to post isn’t catching...

Redandblue11 · 29/12/2020 10:22

Flo I have this green tank top. Is not totally Wallace and Gromit ... but vibes?
I don’t like it. I am not sure why I bought it 5 years ago and is still in my wardrobe...

Contaminated packages would seem a weird excuse considering the science doesn't support it, unless I missed somewhere that this UK based mutation is somehow more contageous due to surface contamination which other strains are thought not to be in great effect.

CDC has always been a bit weird with shipping to the UK though, I think they used to mention when checking out returns aren't free and that it's costly (there may even have been an extra charge from them) so to chooses carefully or something like that.

I think a lot of e-tailers are struggling with the constant lockdowns as they need to extend their return periods for both online and physical shops which means they're going to get a lot of useless stock back when sale periods/seasons have passed. I assume the UK/French couriers are currently making a mess of things too. Both countries aren't delivering in a vaguely normal timescale for me, what usually would be 5-7 days normally for me is arriving in 3-4 weeks or getting lost in the post.

Saying that, other retailers seem to still be shipping to the UK and don't think you have cooties 🤷

Thanks Red - I think I'd be after an oversized fit and a V-neck. I'm drawn to the idea of wearing it under a man's V-neck cardigan - I've got a couple already - half buttoned, so it would kind of be a twist on a twin set. Maybe with pearls Smile

Floisme · 29/12/2020 10:37

If that's the case with this new strain bo (increased surface contamination risk) then it would be kind of nice if they'd share the info Grin
But then what would Amazon do....

botemp · 29/12/2020 10:53

I have to say I'm a bit tinfoil hat about the teenage mutant ninja covid strain in the UK. It got political quite quickly and felt like it was utilised to make unpopular measurements saleable without damage to the government enforcing it. I've still yet to understand why it's more contageous, it's been found elsewhere but not spread madly like it has in the UK. I think it's much more the case of people are very sensibly just tired of adhering to the rules and some exaggerated fear will bring people back in line both in behaviour and in the 'are the restrictions doing more harm than good' debate that was becoming louder in the UK government's own party.

I mean unless CDC slipped up and has intel the rest of the general population doesn't Shock nobody order pizza 😱

CatherineMaitland · 29/12/2020 10:59

Yes, I got stung for returns from CDC once - £24 it cost me to send 3 things back. Huh.

I don't think we know exactly HOW the new strain is contaminated yet but I have to admit all parcels delivered here get a 3-5 day quarantine before I open them and have done since March. Probably mad but who knows.

All delivery times seem to have been extended - no more next day coffee from Nespresso, shocking! I saw some companies here had suspended all shipping to Europe pending figuring out what needed to happen after Brexit.

It seems weird but actually I suppose it's only more how things used to be before everything had fast delivery...we're just not used to waiting.

Floisme · 29/12/2020 11:00

I understand most of the new Nightingale hospitals are still mothballed, which I do find curious.

Floisme · 29/12/2020 11:09

Yeah I can understand a business decision to suspend orders because of Brexit uncertainties, but that doesn't sound like what CDC are doing.

CatherineMaitland · 29/12/2020 11:12

Don't think there's enough staff to do much useful with the Nightingale hospitals.

The inevitable public inquiry will be interesting, that's for sure.

botemp · 29/12/2020 11:14

I thought they were mothballed as nobody remembered to check they actually had staff to fill them, they were too busy scoring a Royal to virtually open them. I suppose Boris' promise of more money to the NHS came true though...

Yes, quarantining packages is likely overkill but if you're going to do it, it's 5 days. I just wash my hands after opening it and then after putting it in the recycling bin, probably overkill too🤷

eBay has gone weird with Brexit, it's now calculating import fees and duties on items from UK sellers when it shouldn't, I think Confused

OP posts:
Floisme · 29/12/2020 11:22

Yeah you're right about staffing, although from what I remember from the news footage, they were basically rows and rows of ventilators and not that heavily staffed. But I gather the treatment is more sophisticated now and that they're less likely to put you on a ventilator.

I'm not inclined to be too critical about building them. I don't think anyone really knew what to expect.

botemp · 29/12/2020 11:35

At the time it probably seemed sensible but I'm still left utterly bemused that there was a wholesale copy paste of the Chinese strategy as opposed to considering the established science. Not to question the whole China transparency thing, just the process of executive decisions in western democratic countries that value civil liberties. Nobody twigged that it was incompatible, that results like welding people shut in their homes wasn't a strategy we could ever follow to its full extent and therefore it might not be the best strategy to follow to the letter.

Ditto the apps, yes they worked in many Asian countries because they're highly invasive, again incompatible with our privacy laws, the lack of urgency with rolling them out due to those restrictions meant we haven't really gained much advantage from them. Yet all these governments jumped on them with a lot of noise and then having to backtrack when some nice beurocrat pointed out the issue.

Getting back to Fashion, before we're banished to the covid section, my net a porter order came in (a day ahead of schedule ) and unfortunately the LouLou studios trousers make me look like I'm expecting a horizontal watermelon, shame as apart from that they're really nice. Keeping the tkees flip flops which were a bargain. NAP is evil though, while filling in my online return form they suggested I might like these trousers instead of the LouLou studios ones and they're right Shock they don't seem to be fitting the model well and look a bit flimsy in the video but I still want some winter white trousers...

That's a shame. I agree the alternative ones look a bit flimsy too, especially in the 3rd pic (the back view). I find it really hard to predict which pleated trousers will pouffe out and which will lie flat. I think the best ones I've got (even better than the Margaret Howells) are from Toast and they have a single, deep pleat that runs the length of the leg.

Redandblue11 · 29/12/2020 15:38

That is a shame Bo as they could have potentially been quite good.
Now you made me click on net a porter and I want these joggers.

I like those Red, but less keen on the colour. Now you've got me started...

botemp · 29/12/2020 16:05

Yes, I'm a single deep fold towards the crotch kind of pleated trousers person, Flo. I really should stop getting seduced by other variants on the theme.

I'm sure you can make that work Red, but I'd definitely look like a Teletubbie in that 🤣

OP posts:
Redandblue11 · 29/12/2020 17:17

Teletubbie 😂

Redandblue11 · 29/12/2020 17:18

I am not sure I would be brave enough to do the whole combo, maybe just the bottoms .
