Women: from an orderly queue at the bar or take a seat and grab a passing gerbil.

Men: turn left at the end of the road, keep walking until you find the Staunch Ally.

Bar gerbil a full fat coke please and a packet of Scampi Fries please.

Welcome to the Bluestocking women's pub. Men are directed to the Staunch Ally just down the road. Otherwise all are welcome. Pull up a chair, give you...

Sadly, my fridge didn't contain anything an American would recognise as pudding, but I did find a gellatelli lolly with orange and ice cream in the freezer, so that's all good.

We were being threatened with the Finance minister's Impressive package all week, and I very much hoped that was NOT a euphemism.

Magpiecomplex · 12/04/2026 18:55

I had Yorkshire pudding at lunchtime today. We were out with the in laws for a combined catch-up, whinge about politics, saying hello to senior grandson before he heads back to uni, handing over of Easter eggs and more whinging about politics. Oh, and lunch.

Magpiecomplex · 12/04/2026 18:57

Thanks Dean. Which species is in charge of this move? I'm getting quokka vibes after they so efficiently took over breakfast service.

There was a living history TV programme a while ago where it was said that the word pudding originates from the french 'boudin' meaning a sausage. This is because it particularly relates to a dish cooked in some sort of casing, whether a suet pastry, animal membrane (caul) or later, a muslin bag. The recipes would include a coarse cereal such as oats, fruit, possibly meat of some kind and spices, with the mixture being boiled in the casing. The cooked dish would be sliced and served with either a sweet or savoury sauce. Christmas pudding is very much in this tradition.

As is haggis. Chieftain of the pudding race, and all that.

Yes! Actually, given the choice, I prefer the haggis.

I'm going back into the fray with the crocheted gerbils now, having stopped for some real coffee, but I had a quick glance at a couple of clues for yesterday's Times Jumbo cryptic, & I reckon one answer is 'MEAT AND TWO VEG'. 😂 I'm hoping all the answers are euphemisms.

No euphemisms in this one so far but I’ve got 5 clues to go so there’s still time.

I’m stuck & knackered & I need to portion out the daal for the fridge so I’ll finish it tomorrow.

Magpiecomplex · 12/04/2026 19:26

Also black pudding, thinking about it. It's no wonder people get confused!

Magpiecomplex · 12/04/2026 19:31

Looks like the removal team has arrived.

Can I be excused from Removal duties? I helped with Woolly Hugs yesterday so I'm all moved out.

Well, if you really don't mind entrusting someone else with your Tunnocks stash...

MyrtleLion · 12/04/2026 19:38

As you will see from.the next thread, we will be travelling by parachute.

The gerbils may need some help.

Magpiecomplex · 12/04/2026 19:38

Ok ladies, time to collect your belongings and make ready to depart for the new thread. Please take a moment to make sure you haven't left anything behind before forming an orderly queue for the bus plane. Those of a more adventurous disposition can avail themselves of Android's transporter.

Hedgehogforshort · 12/04/2026 19:40

Wait for meeeee!!!!!

MyrtleLion · 12/04/2026 19:42

It's all right, they've sorted it.

I really want to see the gerbil formation parachute team in their first public performance this spring.

MyrtleLion · 12/04/2026 19:45

I did suggest they pack.the Tunnocks into wooden cases, but if @Boiledbeetle will entrust the Tunnocks transportation to the gerbils, she'll have to face the consequences.

See you at the next thread.
