Men: turn left at the end of the road, keep walking until you find the Staunch Ally.

Bar gerbil a full fat coke please and a packet of Scampi Fries please.

I have a mildly wacky friend who many moons ago i visited as we went out she decided o check that she had not left her electric hob on by pressing her hand down.

also her husband had decorated the longe and emulsioned the TV to match, but not very evenly or neatly.

Lovely Dr Bessie.

Nice dress, but I haven't had hair that long since my early 20s - a practical choice because when it was long I got infected follicles that then infected the glands on my neck very painful, too many antibiotics, so short it has been ever since. And I need spectacles, it would be dreadful if I got confused as to which were scones and which were gerbils.

It is a very lovely frock, and I say that as someone who has never given a frock a second look since I had to wear them at schoolSmile

Boily, your thumb may have been injured, but your sense of fun and ability to make me laugh out loud with your images clearly weren't😁
Love the Battenborg!

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 10/04/2026 19:52

Owwwwww, @DeanElderberry - that sounds sore! I hope it heals up quickly, and I’m glad @Boiledbeetle’s thumb is improving.

I have finally reached the part of the baby dress where I am only knitting in one colour, which is a big relief - and I’ve only got a couple of centimetres to go before I start shaping the bodice. I’m starting to believe I may actually get these dresses made.

FranticFrankie · 10/04/2026 20:11

Battenborg... just got it 😄boily . (The cat in your pic at 19.07 reminds me of my old cat 😥just like her)

Do I really have to wait a year for my forget-me-not seeds to germinate? Should I just leave them in the pot? Seems a long time to wait
(I've loved them since I had a pair of knIckers as a child, with forget-me-nots on)

Ooh Dean- hope it heals quickly. I picked up the cast iron hob thingy to wipe underneath, forgetting I'd just boiled a kettle. That hurt

PastaAllaNorma · 10/04/2026 20:20

Yikes, Dean, you poor thing!

Today I've been celebrating my birthday a day early by doing wonderful things I love.

Birdwatching at Bempton Cliffs (no puffins today, though), going to a beautiful garden, popping to a posh farm shop and then eating in a marvellous restaurant owned by my favourite posh chef. I got a birthday card signed by everyone on shift and a free Rhubarb Negroni

Tomorrow will be family focused so an escape room and a pizza takeaway. And bake myself a cake to have with them, of course.

I really enjoyed my grown up birthday celebration.

Magpiecomplex · 10/04/2026 20:22

Happy early birthday, Pasta!

Happy birthday for tomorrow Pasta. Rhubarb negroni sounds amazing.

AsWithGlad · 10/04/2026 20:45

Happy birthday for tomorrow, Pasta. I hope you escape in good time, and enjoy your pizza and good company.

ErrolTheDragon · 10/04/2026 20:50

Sounds perfect, @PastaAllaNorma!

Hedgehogforshort · 10/04/2026 20:54

I just saw the funniest comment on a thread about dick pics

the poster asked if women found it appealing or sexy.

lots of ew no sort of thing

someone came along to say she had a nice one where he had made an effort.

the funny poster asked how did he go about his presentation.

Did he arrange it in a bowl of seasonal fruit for example

the seasonal bit killed me. 😂

Forget me knots are biannual germinate the year after they are first sown. They are best off in the soil.

Once they pop up they self seed so you will have them every year.

once they go over ie brown/ black and the seed heads are ready pull the dead plant up and shake it wherever you want it to grow.

i have them all over they are a lovely first spring flower.

MarieDeGournay · 10/04/2026 21:04

Your birthday prequel sounds great, Pasta, wishing you another lovely day tomorrow🎂

AlexandraLeaving · 10/04/2026 21:11

Happy birthday for tomorrow, Pasta. Today is the Good Friday Agreement's birthday, so I raise a glass to you both.

Sorry to hear about Dean's injury. Sounds really nasty. I hope Dr Bessie was able to tend you satisfactorily. She is very good.

I've knitted my last WH square so will get them in the post tomorrow.

I've knitted several forget-me-nots for the WH squares and I was thinking to myself I wish I knew how to grow them. So thank you. Now I know. :)

lcakethereforeIam · 10/04/2026 21:31

My forget-me-knots just appeared in the garden one year. There's a species called (I think) changing forget-me-knot just like the regular ones but with teeny tiny flowers. So sweet.

Happy birthday, Pasta. I'm hoping to visit Bempton cliffs this year. The last time I was anywhere near there was when Princess Diana died, so it's been a while.

EdithStourton · 10/04/2026 22:24

Magpiecomplex · 10/04/2026 21:00

Yes, I've been watching the same thread Hedgy!

I had a read of that thread. I was tempted to post the quote about how, 'The female body is a thing of a beauty and a work of art, whereas the male form is lumpy and hairy and should not be seen in the light of day.'

Welcome, @Wearenotborg. It took me a long time to get Boily's Battenborg joke.

And a happy birthday to Norma for tomorrow, and commiserations to Deano.

Oh, and a splendid post from Android.

As you can tell I got rather behind. It's been a busy day, but I had a very chill walk with B&B through some wonderfully quiet farmland. At one stage I followed a path made by muntjac - you could tell from the slots left by their very little hooves. I saw some slots yesterday which must have been made by a running roe: deep and splayed and much bigger than the muntjac ones - unless there is some big-ass muntjac buck strutting his stuff in the vicinity. Some giant muntjac buck, actually... it must have been a roe.

I bloody love the countryside. There is always something to see, and I am never bored. This afternoon what I at first thought was a large crow lifted ominously from a dead tree, black against the sky, then as it turned and I could see its underwing properly I realised it was a small buzzard. A little while later I looked up and it was riding a thermal, not really going up, but just wobbling its wings a little to keep itself steady.

And I finally saw some lambs today. This is not exactly sheep country, but there are a few flocks in some of the valleys*, and there were a few, about a month old, gambolling on the grass as I drove by.

*Valley is a relative term in East Anglia. We have near us what is locally considered to be a steep hill, which would be thought flat in some parts of the country.

ErrolTheDragon · 10/04/2026 22:31

I grew up in Essex, there were very few places to learn to do a hill start and the driving test had to use the road that went down to the pier.

JanesLittleGirl · 10/04/2026 22:55

Bloody hell! So much has happened since my last visit. Welcome to our new Bluestockingers. Please be advised that the food doesn't contain any calories or allergens that you don't want it to; the alcohol only affects you as much as you want to be affected and the gerbils don't understand what chits are for so, when you sign a chit for your food or drink, they throw them in the paper recycling.

I am sorry to hear about the various mishaps that have occurred (too many to list) and I hope that everyone recovers quickly.

I remain mazed by the knitters and crocheters and the beautiful things that you have created and, more importantly, the love that you have invested in them.

Finally, I have enjoyed little Tarquin trying to be a grown up without having any knowledge, experience, understanding or basic references. Bless him. I think that he is very sweet but reality is going to hit him like a frying pan in the face in the not too distant future.

EmpressaurusKitty · 10/04/2026 22:57

I have to agree. FWR has had an odd combo these past few days of posters who strike me as adult, cynical and possibly scheming, and the Tarquins of this world, who should be thinking of their exams this summer coming, and that lecture that went right over their heads but that they were told was conceptually key and a vital underpinning to next term's work.
