Women: from an orderly queue at the bar or take a seat and grab a passing gerbil.

Men: turn left at the end of the road, keep walking until you find the Staunch Ally.

Bar gerbil a full fat coke please and a packet of Scampi Fries please.

Welcome to the Bluestocking women's pub. Men are directed to the Staunch Ally just down the road. Otherwise all are welcome. Pull up a chair, give you...

So 265 days to Christmas.

Best get the sprouts on.

@Magpiecomplex is responsible for the battenborg image up thread.

I've just checked my borg phase and my battenborg cakes was more bat than borg!

In 265 days hopefully you've eaten every bit of turkey and the sprout farts are just a memory!

The gerbils are up late perfecting their birthday breakfast for @PastaAllaNorma . They are struggling to work out how to get it all on one plate as they don't often work with alphabetti spaghetti!

We are only just defrosting the leftover turkey from last Christmas to make curry for dinner tonight!

FuzzyPuffling · 11/04/2026 07:27

Happy birthday @PastaAllaNorma .

I'm watching the replay of the astronauts landing. I'm glad they are back safely, but all that technology and they couldn't get the loo to work! Will they take a plumber next time?

Igneococcus · 11/04/2026 07:33

Happy Birthday, Pasta 🎂

Inside Maeshowe there are Viking graffiti (they supposedly sheltered there during a storm) and one of them which is saying something like "Thorvald's a dick" you can see the runes getting smaller and smaller and more tightly packed as it approaches the edge of the wall, pretty much in the exact way as all birthday cakes that I have ever made look.

DeanElderberry · 11/04/2026 08:04

morning all

Forget-me-nots are beautiful, and, as a bonus, the seeds are attractive to goldfinches (and chaffinches and bullfinches) so if you leave the plants in situ after they have gone over you can have the lovely sight of pretty birds picking through them (and scattering seeds as they go, so you'll have more plants in future years).

Present state of the injuries - top section of forefinger hard and shiny; pad at base of forefinger hard and shiny; next bit hard and shiny with a small blister underneath; base of thumb, round puffy blister about the size of my thumbnail.

No real pain, some discomfort. Difficult to use the scissors I cut the cats' meat with. Washable, which is useful. I wash my hands regularly and it would be annoying if I couldn't.

Bit really, it was a stupid thing to do - avoid it.

The poor dear cats are on a diet, so currently they are doing that 'stare at the cruel woman in the hope her stony heart will melt' thing. Sad times.

lcakethereforeIam · 11/04/2026 08:40

I made toffee apples once and noticed a drop of melted molten sugar on the work surface. Decided to wipe it up with my forefinger. The blister was relatively painless but a bit of a nuisance, especially as it healed and I had raggedy bits of skin catching on everything.

I'm a bit bleary - eyed this morning as I was up until the early hours watching the landing from the moon. Great to see they got down safely after being parachuted into the sea on what appeared to be three giant Tunnocks teacakes wrappers! 😁

Magpiecomplex · 11/04/2026 09:33

Morning all. Cryptic the capybara and General-Knowledge (GK to her friends) the gerbil have now taken over the kitchen table, so further breakfast service may be on the slow side.

PastaAllaNorma · 11/04/2026 09:40

Thank you for the wonderful birthday wishes - and especially images. Gerbils, a round of breakfast cocktails for everyone please!

DeanElderberry · 11/04/2026 09:42

Happy Norma Day

Don't panic about the Capybara and Gerbil kitchen, the real breakfast kitchen is being Quokka-ed by very efficient staff.

My breakfast cocktail will always be the Barry's tea-leaves, boiling water, full fat milk one.

Someone has got very enthusiastic with the blue gingham in one of those pictures!

and very nice too, fresh looking, easy to launder.

I have some bits of green gingham that I think were originally school or college domestic science aprons and/or kit. Very useful, could do with some more.

lcakethereforeIam · 11/04/2026 09:59

Remember doing simple embroidery on it for a Domestic Science project?

We had to embroider our initials on the aprons we'd made for Cookery. They split the class, so half did Cookery first and then Needlework. I was in the half that did it the sensible way round - Needlework to make the apron first, then Cookery to use it.

Morning all, happy birthday Pasta and wisha god love ye to Deano, hope th'oul hand is better soonSmile
I sat up to watch the splashdown - thrilled by the whole thing although also critical of waste of money/colonisation of space and the Moon etc etc, but the thrill of it took over last night, as it did when it was going round the Moon.

I thought it was all going to be wrapped up around 1am but they bobbed around for ages with little boats coming up to them and then going away, so by 2am I was propping my eyes open, desperate to sleep but I've stayed up this late, I might as well wait for another few minutes... and another few minutes...and another...😖

I noticed the paracutes too, Damson, and wondered if Tunnocks had sponsored the mission😁

I’m off to the 199 Days Later protest in London today. I know it’s short notice but could the gerbils do me a packed lunch?

I'm sure they will, just be sure to specify a human-sized lunch, not a gerbil-sized one, and clarify that you are not actually a cat so a bag of Dreamies will not suffice😄

Well done for going, and re-pra-zenting the likes of me who can't go✊

Very good points. Gerbils, please could I have a packed lunch for a human vegetarian who doesn’t like rocket?

I’ll wave my placard on behalf of the Bluestockings!
