NHS Fife tries to silence nurse - Sandie Peggie vs NHS Fife Health Board and Dr Beth Upton - thread #28

1000 replies

nauticant · 16/07/2025 12:09

Sandie Peggie, a nurse at Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy (VH), has brought claims in the employment tribunal against her employer; Fife Health Board (the Board) and another employee, Dr B Upton. Ms Peggie’s claims are of sexual harassment, harassment related to a protected belief, indirect discrimination and victimisation. Dr Upton claims to be a transwoman, that is observed as male at birth but asserting a female gender identity.

The Employment Tribunal hearing started on Monday 3 February 2025 and was expected to last 2 weeks. However, after 2 weeks it was not complete and it adjourned part-heard. It resumed on 16 July and the last day of evidence will be 28 July and then there will be 2 days of submissions from counsel meaning that the hearing will end on 30 July.

The hearing commenced with Sandie Peggie giving evidence. Dr Beth Upton gave evidence from Thursday 6 February to Wednesday 12 February.

Access to view the hearing remotely was obtainable by sending an email request to [email protected] by 5pm on Wednesday 9 July. Detailed instructions were provided here:

I have a trans child. I can say that he (was she) did not expect to be treated as a man while they still had a vag.
You are calling a woman bigoted because she objected to a biological man insisting on using a female changing room.
So would it still be okay for a man to share a changing room if a practising Muslim had objected? Would you call the Muslim lady bigoted?

What's a TA? Couldn't see it on the abbreviations page, sorry.

Oops. I meant to write TRA as in trans rights activist but TA for trans ally would fit.

Hide away. Perish the thought you might have to confront biological reality. Have a good evening.

@Tangfastic71 are you interested in learning where you're factually wrong in what you've written, or does that not matter to you?

Impossible to say. Time is a nebulous concept.

Want a cigar and a yacht to go with it?

Do you think that guy is the same one who did the "shame, shame" stuff after the SC judgment like a crap Game of Thrones character? I do hope so. If so, that was just a warm up and the absolute gold is yet to come.

"A highly qualified doctor - who happens to be trans - uses the NHS approved women’s changing room, in line with policy and the law..."

Yeah, I'm going to have to stop you there!

That doctor then whined because the nurse waited outside until the doctor had finished before going in to use the changing room herself.

I also wonder if the Trust would have reacted in the same way if the trans person had been a nurse...

I'm also looking at the Reddit thread on this. What bothers me is how they phrase their complaints as if they're unanswerable questions. Like, do you want an answer or not? Come and ask the questions here and people will happily answer them. No point screaming them into your echo chamber.

I noticed someone commented that their issue wasn't that TIMs are predators but that TIMs are men and (among other things) retain male pattern criminality. This obviously brought on a slew of "that's bullshit, show us the data" type comments but of course the data will never appear as the person who left the comment will have been banned.

On another site I once had that conversation. Someone told me they wouldn't believe me unless I produced the actual figures.

So I gave them the actual figures. Now they wanted to know where I got them from, otherwise I must've just made them up.

So I gave them the link & told them the figures were produced by the UK Ministry of Justice. I've won, I thought, I'm going to convince them.

They came back & said they refused to look at the linked data because it was produced by a Tory government.😂🙄

Never argue with a fool: anyone who sees you will just think, 'Oh look, it's two fools arguing.'😁

NImumconfused · 16/07/2025 18:14

@Tangfastic71 the DEI lead has said under oath that NHS Fife didn't have a policy, the recent SC ruling clarified what the law has always been, and the law says that Dr Upton shouldn't have been in the female changing rooms. Dr Upton caused most of the drama, especially by adding in accusations towards Sandie Peggie of endangering patient safety, which investigations have proven to be untrue. So pretty much all your points are inaccurate.

I thought that was remarkable. IB said "there was no policy" as if it should be considered a defence. She seemed clueless to the idea that while there was nothing in writing, by her actions and advice, she created the defacto policy which was used. Her teflon suit is really wearing thin

Hi - I think the claimants have raised the money and are paying the stenographers. Certainly NC and MG are making sure that they are getting reasonable breaks and worrying about their working conditions.
The parties jointly paid for a transcript for Mermaids vs LGB Alliance. We in TT were relieved when comparing the transcript to our tweet threads - we did okay.

Ah, I did wonder about the stenographers. We haven't seen them before.

And a huge thank you to you and the team at TT for your top work.

Wow, the tantrums when the men don't get what they want are quite something 😱

I suspect that there are quite a few seething misogynists who have been squatting on this thread (and previous ones) desperately angry that women are actually allowed to discuss this. It's only the particularly dim ones who beclown themselves by scolding us while showing absolutely zero awareness or knowledge of what is being discussed in the courtroom.

I'll be drinking my fizz tonight with a rounding cheer of 'women won't wheesht'

Slainte!

I often wonder - and have never yet heard an explanation (not a GOOD explanation, mind, rather ANY explanation) for how a trans handmaiden knows that their pet cat or dog is female or male.

Answers on a rainbow embossed postcard please.

You do know that can get you into trouble. Look at Lizzie Pitt.

“While no formal sanctions have been imposed,” NHS Fife said in a statement, “the panel concluded that a facilitated reflective practice discussion would be appropriate.” It is not easy translating this guff into plain English but I think this means “We deeply regret your innocence but think you should think long and hard about the behaviour which caused us to persecute you”.

Gorgeous. Ointment for that burn, NHS Fife?
