NHS Fife tries to silence nurse - Sandie Peggie vs NHS Fife Health Board and Dr Beth Upton - thread #28

nauticant · 16/07/2025 12:09

Sandie Peggie, a nurse at Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy (VH), has brought claims in the employment tribunal against her employer; Fife Health Board (the Board) and another employee, Dr B Upton. Ms Peggie’s claims are of sexual harassment, harassment related to a protected belief, indirect discrimination and victimisation. Dr Upton claims to be a transwoman, that is observed as male at birth but asserting a female gender identity.

The Employment Tribunal hearing started on Monday 3 February 2025 and was expected to last 2 weeks. However, after 2 weeks it was not complete and it adjourned part-heard. It resumed on 16 July and the last day of evidence will be 28 July and then there will be 2 days of submissions from counsel meaning that the hearing will end on 30 July.

The hearing commenced with Sandie Peggie giving evidence. Dr Beth Upton gave evidence from Thursday 6 February to Wednesday 12 February.

Access to view the hearing remotely was obtainable by sending an email request to [email protected] by 5pm on Wednesday 9 July. Detailed instructions were provided here:

Isla was completely oblivious to Stonewall.

Isla was completely oblivious to the Equality Act and obligations to women.

Is there anything that Isla did do that would fall squarely under the remit of her job?

What did she actually DO?

Nobody knows because she never took notes 🙄

To be fair to Isla she's part of the cohort that will have been indoctrinated in trans ideology through school and university. It is unlikely it occurred to her that TW should not be allowed in female changing rooms.

The responsibility here is with the lack of NHS Fife policies leaving the staff to wing it when it comes to trans policies.

Even if they had policies in place the outcome would have been the same I suspect. The only difference would be that NHS Fife would not be able to try and lay the responsibility on a junior member of staff in this way.

I think it's BA in Biomedical Science followed by Masters in Public Health

And still doesn’t know the difference between a man and a woman?

Oh dear. Needs statistics to determine if men are stronger. Needs statistics to tell her that men are more violent. But strongly asserts women can rape men.

To be fair, I don’t think she’s claiming to be unaware of Stonewall. It’s specifically the Diversity Champions Scheme she’s a bit woolly on. In itself still a very strange situation for an EDI lead for an organisation that used to be a member of the scheme.

NC men generally stronger/more of a threat to women.
IB When you talk c tw and tm risk is significantly less.
NC You are saying men in general are greater threat to women than vice
IB TW are different from other men in level of threat they present

SlackJawedDisbeliefXY · 16/07/2025 14:22

NC Being surprised by a man in cr would be worse if the woman had history of sex assault.
IB Any concerns, should raise with line management.
NC Do you know proportion of staff have suffered sex assault in past
IB Don't have that info
NC You don't collect it
IB No
NC Do you know how many women in your staff would be likely to have suffered pas sex assault

How can you assess the impact of men in women's changing rooms, with the associated threat of sexual violence without knowing if any of your staff have suffered past assault?

Fife really do not care about the impact on their female staff

It’s her job for this to occur to her. Remember EDI is not just trans (I know!). She’s supposed to be looking after women by reference to their protected characteristic of sex.

If she 29. She's actually too old to fall into that cohort.

2018 is when it went bonkers. So she'd have been 22 in 2018.
