NHS Fife tries to silence nurse - Sandie Peggie vs NHS Fife Health Board - thread #2

Sandie Peggie, a nurse at Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy (VH), has brought claims in the employment tribunal against her employer; Fife Health Board (the Board) and another employee, Dr B Upton. Ms Peggie’s claims are of sexual harassment, harassment related to a protected belief, indirect discrimination and victimisation. Dr Upton claims to be a transwoman, that is observed as male at birth but asserting a female gender identity.

The Employment Tribunal hearing started on Monday 3 January 2025 and is expected to continue for 2 weeks.

JR is trying to get the answer to women not feeling comfortable sharing with men. What that doesn't tell us is how uncomfortable they are with transwomen.

Women and girls shouldn't have to get undressed in front of men just because those men are sad that they're not women.

Right. The NHS is a little bit pushed for cash right now, but if you want to campaign for them to install individual cubicles at vast expense, go for it.

In the meantime, single sex changing rooms have been working apparently fine for many years. The problem here is a man insisting he use the women's, despite women having to use it for things that he never will experience - like changing after menopausal flooding.

I wouldn’t have felt comfortable getting changed in front of anyone full stop, let alone if I was on my period. Why get changed in front of anyone? There should be private cubicles

But there are no private cubicles that it is the point. Saying there should be is not relevant to this case.

The male doctor knew his presence was making women uncomfortable and that they did not want to change in front of him in the open, single sex changing area and yet he carried on which is bullying and harassment on his part.

It is deeply painful for women to be forced to undress/change in front of a male when they have not consented to do so. His pain does not and should not trump theirs whatever he believes. Reality is that no man can become or be a woman and no man should be forcing others to pander to his feelings at the expense of their own.
