Transwoman on being in a woman's ward

''When it came to washing my body or clearing up after me, I was entirely dependent on nurses. They saw, wiped and dried every last inch of me.
A few days before my discharge, two nurses came to my bed, pulled the curtains closed for privacy and asked if I would mind telling them what it was like to be transgender.

We started chatting and at one point I said: “If you took every woman in this ward, stuck us all into stirrups and asked a gynae to take a good look, they wouldn’t be able to tell the difference between me and everyone.”

The nurses burst out laughing. “Oh, we know!” one of them exclaimed. “We’ve all been talking about it in the staff room. It looks just like the real thing!”'

...

'all humans begin their lives as female.'

I’m trans and fractured my spine – why don’t I belong on a women’s ward?

I look like a woman, sound like a woman and live as a woman, writes Diana Thomas. But the Conservatives believe, when in hospital, I don’t deserve the same kindness and compassion as other patients

Isn't that vile transphobia and Literal Violence? We constantly get told that it is the real thing.

Duffdee · 08/10/2023 15:57

Yeah but we’re not here by accident feminist 3.0 was always going to lead to feminism 4.0. And if we can’t have feminism 4.0 we won’t have feminism 3.0 either. Eat what you ordered I guess. Remember, equality is for everyone.

I love this website

Fleabane · 08/10/2023 16:00

I can't speak for all women but the idea that a load of nurses would be standing around on their breaks discussing my labia is very weird and disconcerting

Stilldigging · 08/10/2023 16:01

I have to question if this person was so clearly female in every way, how did the nurses know they were transgender in the first place, given it is not allowed to be referred to or written down anywhere?

It might be if you said it in a less than kind and supportive way because it would depend entirely upon how the victim or any other person perceived it. I think that’s like the actual law or something. These laws have been in place for a long time and I don’t remember feminists complaining about them when they were passed at the time.

I’ll add nurses standing around discussing their labia into the list of things that never happened

so much a case of Advanced General Pratling

willingtolearn · 08/10/2023 16:05

I don't believe it. Also unless the patient had no use of their arms at all it would not be normal for the carer who washed them (rarely a registered nurse) to 'wash and dry every inch' of a person - independence is maintained for their dignity

It would be an incredibly intrusive thing for a Registered nurse to ask and they are very unlikely to have time for that sort of chit chat anyway.

PriOn1 · 08/10/2023 16:06

Who sits round boasting to the nurses about their genitals (or lack of)? And how many nurses would respond by saying they’d been discussing said genitals (or lack of)?

🤣

😂😂😂😂😂😂

I wonder if TRA’s actually believe this?

What's that expression I'm searching for... Oh yes - "Cool story bro' " Hmm

Duffdee · 08/10/2023 16:08

@Theeyeballsinthesky i must admit I had the same thought, I’ve never heard nurses discussing my parts either. Doesn’t sound very professional does it? But it’s a nice article nevertheless.

I can guarantee you will certainly don't.
Only time I have fgm was involved and I had to report it.

There is no way that an inverted penis with the bell end disguised as a clitoris passes tbh

fruitbrewhaha · 08/10/2023 16:08

Yeah that never happened.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 08/10/2023 16:08

Sadly @Bonkersworknonsense i think they seriously do

I'm not a nurse, but I could tell whether someone had had Botox, never mind a completely man made vulva and vagina. If there's a nurse in the country who can't tell the difference then they should be fired.

Plus which, it never happened. Of course it didn't happen.

BandicootCrash · 08/10/2023 16:11

There was presumably much giggling, and probably some pillow fighting, involved in this delightful girly chat? Sounds like the sort of thing that highly educated and skilled medical professionals would be doing whilst gossiping about, and with, patients 🙄

Justletpeopleenjoythings · 08/10/2023 16:13

Do they really think a gynaecologist wouldn't be able to tell the difference? Even if cosmetically the outer genitals were identical do they not know they haven't got a cervix?

ditalini · 08/10/2023 16:15

This one's got form. Complete fantasist.

loislovesstewie · 08/10/2023 16:15

I've been told elsewhere by a trans man that I wouldn't be able to tell the difference between their neo-penis and a real one. I really, really know I WOULD! And I don't believe this conversation happened, commenting on genitalia by HCP's just isn't done.

ArabellaScott · 08/10/2023 16:16

'There’s something weird, not to say toe-curlingly ‘eeeewww’, about a man of 60 who looks down and sees the breasts of an adolescent girl sprouting on his chest.
That’s one reason I’ve not written much about my boobs until now. Another would be that, from a female reader’s point of view, being told about what it feels like to grow breasts by a male-to-female transsexual might easily seem like the ultimate, distilled, platonic essence of mansplaining. You really don’t need me to tell you.
And yet the fact remains that my breasts are incredibly important to me.'
