''When it came to washing my body or clearing up after me, I was entirely dependent on nurses. They saw, wiped and dried every last inch of me.
A few days before my discharge, two nurses came to my bed, pulled the curtains closed for privacy and asked if I would mind telling them what it was like to be transgender.

We started chatting and at one point I said: “If you took every woman in this ward, stuck us all into stirrups and asked a gynae to take a good look, they wouldn’t be able to tell the difference between me and everyone.”

The nurses burst out laughing. “Oh, we know!” one of them exclaimed. “We’ve all been talking about it in the staff room. It looks just like the real thing!”'

...

'all humans begin their lives as female.'

I’m trans and fractured my spine – why don’t I belong on a women’s ward?

I look like a woman, sound like a woman and live as a woman, writes Diana Thomas. But the Conservatives believe, when in hospital, I don’t deserve the same kindness and compassion as other patients

How did Diana break Diana’s back? That’s a pretty serious injury. Did Diana fall off Diana's stilettos, come on, we’ve all done it.

😂😂😂😂😂😂

I wonder if TRA’s actually believe this?

Absolutely

like as if we’d ever borrow a tampon off anyone let alone a man.

utter bollocks. I hope this author is filing this shit under fiction cost none of this happened outside their head.

"and then we braided each others hair before skipping through a field of flowers in the sunshine trading friendship bracelets."

And gayly discusses using tampons and how to insert them, because that's what women do with each other, even as strangers! tosses flowers and petals whilst skipping merrily along

What breaks? Are other HCP getting breaks?

Bastards.

I believe these special HCPS are getting breaks for re-education, followed by extra Affirmation for Great Patients.

Let’s hope they haven’t been having the same conversations with the women on the ward. How creepy and yes unlikely.

As a retired gynae nurse I can assure you all that I never once discussed anyone’s genitalia in a staff room.

  1. There was no staff room
  2. We were too bl*y busy to stop and chat
  3. When you run an abnormal smear clinic you really have seen it all.
  4. I have seen breastless women, women with reconsructive breasts, women with radical labial surgery for cancer, women with out wombs, ovaries, fallopian tubes etc. BUT I have never seen a woman with a penis.

Ah, yes, we (women) all know that, but it doesn't slot in with male fantasy now, does it, when he needs to jerk off.

Not gonna lie but I’m afraid to google

but even without googling i know ‘even the gynecologist couldn’t tell’ is an outright lie

I hope that this isn't deleted for being too explicit!

The pelvis is a different shape and this dictates where the neo-vaginal canal can be placed and this plus the surrounding anatomy dictates the angle of the canal itself. The neo-labia usually surround the neo-clitoris, the repositioned urethral opeing and the neo-vaginal opening is just under the neo-labia. Then (depending on the individual this can be more or less distinct) you have the perineal raphe running to the anus.

hedgehogsunflower · 08/10/2023 18:01

What hospital is this that the nurses have time just to sit around chatting to patients? When I was on the postnatal ward (both times) all the staff were run off their feet and nobody seemed to have a second to spare.

How does an adult male human grow or get labia and a clitoris? If the penis is inverted to make a cavity, I get that but where and how do you get lips and a magic bean from??? Your arm???

They use the male genitals and if there isn't enough, they will use some colon (intestine) for the lining.

Also: 'stirrups'?

I've had four babies, two miscarriages, a gynae cancer scare, a colposcopy and a lifetime of smear tests and contraception appointments. 'Stirrups' have not featured at any point in this 30-odd year history of gynae interventions. Standard gynae/obstetric examinations feature you being asked to lie back with your legs bent and then let your knees fall apart. Next-level interventions like a colposcopy may have one of those examination couches with separate leg rests.

But stirrups? Someone's been watching too much gynae-themed porn.

RainWithSunnySpells · 08/10/2023 18:04

I always thought that stirrups (for this medical setting, not when horse riding) were more of a US thing?

It’s an American thing (and probably elsewhere too). They use them there routinely.

I would like to hope that any gynaecologist worth his/her salt could tell the difference.

Even the one who graduated last in their class would know at a glance.

Pardon my ignorance but isnt a transwomans ‘vulva’ in a slightly different place to a womans vulva?

Yes, quite a bit "off the norm" shall we say.

WickedSerious · 08/10/2023 18:09

It's one of those hospitals where surgeons are always amputating the wrong leg isn't it?

Duckskitbank · 08/10/2023 18:09

I’ll file this under “person who used to own testicles continues talking bollocks after their removal”.

raphe is a new word for me! Every day's a school day. Is it pronounced like Ranulph?

Yes, this.

Sorry, my punctuation is dodgy in my description above and it's too late to edit. What I meant to say is that the neo-labia doesn't surround the neo-vaginal opening in the same way that you have with natal anatomy.

RainWithSunnySpells · 08/10/2023 18:16

I just say it like 'rafe' Arabella. My knowledge of anatomy is from an art background though, rather than medical, so happy to be corrected.

Winnading · 08/10/2023 18:16

Miyagi99 · 08/10/2023 17:17

Don’t know where you’ve got this information from but it’s incorrect. A person’s medical history is in their medical record so available to the medical professionals treated them.

And your medical records can be changed to the other sex.
As can your passport and driving licence.

Are you new here?

CriticalCondition · 08/10/2023 18:20

I'd be pretty surprised if a gynecologist couldn't identify a female pelvis up on an examination couch at 100 paces.

The stirrups are the ultimate female accessory in this fantasy, aren't they. Like high heels or a handbag.

MorvernBlack · 08/10/2023 18:25

ditalini · 08/10/2023 17:37

Yep, but I know 6ft women and they don't look anything like 6ft men.

I have a fairly androgynous dress sense and I've had the occasional comment recently, mainly from wanky drunk men and shoe shop assistants (my feet match my height unfortunately). But that wasn't really my point, my point was there's nothing trans identifying about your height.

But I don't want to derail.

DevilinaCardigan · 08/10/2023 18:25

As a veteran of the SRS thread on the farms, I’ve seen some shit. Neo-vaginas don’t look like female vaginas. As PP mentioned, the placement a different and the quality of aesthetics varies widely.

Boiledbeetle · 08/10/2023 18:25

I've not got to the end yet but.... I've been seeing medical professionals about gynacological issues for forty years. In all that time the only time a gynacologist has had my legs in stirrups has been when I've been on an operating table under general anaesthetic. All other examinations carried out by the consultant have not required stirrups.

Plus the fact that a transwoman hole is in (at least on every photo I've ever seen) a completely different location to women's vaginas would be a bit of a give away surely!

I think as a story it needs more dragons.

But that plus the weird boast about having teenage girl breasts is just so creepy it hurts.
