''When it came to washing my body or clearing up after me, I was entirely dependent on nurses. They saw, wiped and dried every last inch of me.
A few days before my discharge, two nurses came to my bed, pulled the curtains closed for privacy and asked if I would mind telling them what it was like to be transgender.

We started chatting and at one point I said: “If you took every woman in this ward, stuck us all into stirrups and asked a gynae to take a good look, they wouldn’t be able to tell the difference between me and everyone.”

The nurses burst out laughing. “Oh, we know!” one of them exclaimed. “We’ve all been talking about it in the staff room. It looks just like the real thing!”'

'all humans begin their lives as female.'

I’m trans and fractured my spine – why don’t I belong on a women’s ward?

I look like a woman, sound like a woman and live as a woman, writes Diana Thomas. But the Conservatives believe, when in hospital, I don’t deserve the same kindness and compassion as other patients

To be fair I think the erectile tissue from the scrotum can be fashioned into a fairly realistic simulacrum of a labia. They come in all shapes and sizes after all.

However any gynaecologist that fails to notice that the burrowed-out ‘vault’ beyond these ‘labial’ folds, comes to an abrupt dead-end, is a gynaecologist that I want nowhere near my reproductive system.

Another thing that would put me off this surgeon is that despite it being perfectly possible ( waves to India) the surgeon didn’t think to craft a perfect cervix to finish off their masterpiece. Sorry, mistresspiece.

At the risk of sounding like an ignorant idiot, since when did scrotums (scrota?) have erectile tissue?

I'm a man and thought I was a pretty ordinary man, but I'm fairly sure my scrotum has never had an erection. I think if it had that I would have taken note of it. I'm just wondering what that would feel like...are there circumstances in which it would be advantageous? I hope I'm not missing out

Sorry, didn't mean to derail the thread; but where better than mumsnet to come for a male anatomy lesson?

I agree that it's butchery, and think you are making a wise choice. Clearly, people have different motivations, and the author of the article seems absolutely delighted to have been the subject of discussion.

Don't worry, women aren't very interested in discussing male genitalia

Woman: something a man can never be. HTH

Please show where I am discussing the results of a specific person's surgery, rather than the results of vaginoplasty in general.

Could be a pair of male nurses, who couldn't find a clitoris with a map, a torch and a female anatomically correct mannequin for reference, who are being quoted.

Just as an aside, unfortunately stirrups are still used sometimes in UK hospitals. I was left in stirrups for so long following an induction that my peroneal nerve was severed and I couldn't walk.

But yes, the rest is just utter fantasy.

It's not about 'fitting in'.

I'd say anyone who read the writer's other material would have a fair idea.

Calling women ‘cis women’ on the feminist section of a website primarily for women is inappropriate and insulting. We’re not a subset of women. We are women.

Is this a homophobic reference? I can't make sense of it any other way.

Silver lining is at least some of the comments on the article are encouragingly critical

PaperWalkAndTalk · 08/10/2023 19:09

It's strange that the most masculine of trans women are obsessed with their neo-vagina being indistinguishable from the real thing, yet seem to forget that the rest of their body is a clear give-away.

The guy is in fantasy land if he believes that he is passable, he just experiences politeness from others.

Also another thing I find strange is that I assume that he is a Tory, but as soon as the party go anyway near trans rights he throws his toys out of the pram. Almost as if they've betrayed him.

And then I woke up from my fantasy dream.

What is a bottom? Is it part of this man’s anatomy? I’ve not heard it before, are women bottoms? Does David Thomas talk about this in his articles?
