Men are appalling.

Well, a man was appalling.

Not sure you can say they all are just from this one, admittedly horrendous, incident.

JoggerBottom · 04/01/2019 20:19

I just read this and it makes me want to cry.

If there is ever an argument for same sex carers then this is surely it.

Neverunderfed · 04/01/2019 20:20

"possible sexual abuse"

No shit Sherlock

Mayhemmumma · 04/01/2019 20:23

DNA from all employees needed.

How utterly depressing.

VickyEadie · 04/01/2019 20:26

I'm well aware that NAMALT.

What we don't know (and never will, I'd guess) is how often she was raped and by how many men...

Horrifying.

I remember the scene from Kill Bill where there was an "arrangement" of scheduled sexual abuse of coma patients and put it down to Tarantino's sick mind. I realise that it must have been based on something but the reality makes me sick to the stomach.

JoggerBottom · 04/01/2019 20:31

Hubs- it made me think of Kill Bill too.

I can watch pretty much anything in film, but that scene always made me flinch.

She got her revenge though, the poor lady in care will never get justice for this.

Akire · 04/01/2019 20:33

That’s horrific how can they possible say possible abuse!!!

BlindYeo · 04/01/2019 20:34

Unfortunately that doesn't rule out that Tarantino has a sick mind all of his own. His films turn my stomach.

This story is horrible.

myidentitymycrisis · 04/01/2019 20:36

how did they not notice she was pregnant? periods would have stopped? belly and breasts change?

sackrifice · 04/01/2019 20:40

Jesus christ.

BlindYeo · 04/01/2019 20:45

Poor child if it ever finds out its origins.I daresay we've all got a rapist for an antecedent somewhere along the line (depressing) but that is ghastly.

Vegilante · 04/01/2019 20:55

Her caretakers had no idea the woman was pregnant “until she was pretty much giving birth,” a source familiar with the situation told CBS 5.

Care in US nursing homes (care homes) is generally abysmal & this goes to show it. She had round-the-clock care, which in her case meant anyone could enter her room alone to rape her 24/7/365. So all that "care" made her more vulnerable to assault & other abuse, not less. Bet that poor comatose woman stuck in her bed has been raped, jacked off on & sexually abused in other ways in that nursing home many times before.

It's all good now, though, because the nursing home has already instituted a new policy so that male caretakers are never alone in a room with a female patient. How could they NOT have had such a policy before? And what about male caretakers who identify - or will identify - as women?

The lack of quality nursing homes & other care options in the US has become a major reason so many Americans who support strict gun control reconsider & revise that stance once we get old. One of America's dirty secrets is that two- thirds of the 30,000 gun deaths that occur here each year are suicides. No wonder.

indieshuffle · 04/01/2019 21:02

Truly awful. The poor woman and the poor child :(

MrsEvedder · 04/01/2019 21:03

The fear and pain she must have felt while the abuse was carried out. To then go though giving birth with no pain relief or support is just horrific.
There are some fucked up men in this world.

explodingkitten · 04/01/2019 21:09

How comatose is she if she moans when in pain? I thought that being in a coma meant that you were totally out if it. Apoarantly she still feels things. Poor poor woman. I hope they find the basterd who did this to her.

Purplewithgreenspots · 04/01/2019 21:24

You can moan while ina coma

BlytheSpiritsSpirit · 04/01/2019 21:27

I already commented on a thread in chat, but it bears repeating.

There is no way the staff didn't know. No way. I cannot believe it. I worked as a carer, you quickly learn every intimate detail about a person, especially those who cannot move for themselves. Bedsores happen often and grow quickly. Cleaning and checking should be happening regularly, with notes being written every time.

What on earth is happening in that care home facility? The entire operation is suspect, not just the male staff. This is awful on so many levels.

Yeahnahyeah · 04/01/2019 22:06

Similar thing happened here in NZ - a woman with a severe intellectual and physical disability in a care home gave birth. Turned out it was a caregiver who raped her, a "family man, married with children". How often does this happen I wonder.

Yeahnahyeah · 04/01/2019 22:08

Blyth, I don't agree other staff must have known. Might have known, sure.

bluescreen · 04/01/2019 22:10

That's all beyond appalling. I've long believed that the term 'coma' is misleading, that one should always assume the patient can hear and understand and suffer, because at some level this may be true and one will never know.

How often does this happen, that vulnerable patients are sexually abused? A lot more often than we care to think, I suspect.

Talk of the Tarantino film, which I haven't seen, reminded me of Almodovar's Talk to Her. It's all sugar-coated but profoundly disturbing. Here is the Graun's Peter Bradshaw totally taken in by Almodovar's romantic take. And in turn he refers to Dennis Potter, so there are at least three film-makers who've tackled the phenomenon... www.theguardian.com/film/2002/aug/23/1

BellMcEnd · 04/01/2019 22:11

”Possible sexual abuse”?? Jesus wept

GhostSauce · 04/01/2019 22:14

Possible? Alternatively it was the second Jesus?

Fucking hell, this is so awful.

This makes me think of a series in the '80s or early '90s where some man befriended a family with a comatose daughter (pretending he had been her friend) and sexually abused her over a period of time - does anyone else remember it? It was stomach-churning.
