How can ANYONE suggest that a woman in a PVS for 10 years should have been on birth control??? I mean, I don't understand the morals of anyone who can say the rest of the excuses given there either, but I don't even get the logic behind that one, never mind the ethics.

I imagine the logic is that the hospital should have put her on birth control, because they should have guessed that their male staff were so depraved that they might rape her.

Obviously that's a much more logical solution than making sure male staff aren't left alone with female patients, or making sure you don't employ rapists.

The interesting thing about that logic is that it absolutely assumes the worst of men ie that left to their own devices, men will rape an unconscious woman. And they claim it's feminists who demonise men.

Obviously the fact that a woman in a coma was raped is disgusting.

However, on the NAMALT issue, the OP said 'men are appalling' in her OP.

I think the only way to stop people being appalling is to be honest about their behaviour and to shame them. men as a class are appalling. it's just a fact I'm afraid.

I have a father, a brother, a husband and a son. Somehow I still feel able to say that men, as a class, are appalling without any hand wringing or guilt. It’s not that hard. It’s a fact.

I know we as women are socialised to be nice at all times and never offend, but that only perpetuates rape culture.

I think the estimates are that somewhere in the ballpark of 6% of men are rapists. If we can find maybe 6% (or more) of any demographic are criminal in anyway are we then allowed to make sweeping generalizations about that demographic for example? Say by race/religion/nationality? If not why?
