These threads are for those who’d like to lose weight and those who wish to maintain whilst eating a healthy varied diet.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and generally eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost around 45lbs.

I’m maintaining at 9st 2lb but I would like to get back into the 8’s 🤞

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

Hi, hope everyone has had a good weekend.

I ate over maintenance calories Friday, probably just about maintenance yesterday, but back to it today with a solid plan.

I did a HIIT workout this morning (15 mins) then hoovered upstairs and down the stairs without killing myself - always touch and go - and then a walk to Tesco for fruit and bread; down and then up hill. So hopefully that will start sorting out my 2 days of excess.

I've also thought about the Friday cannot be bothered aspect that I faced this week and planning pulled pork, brioche bun, coleslaw and corn on the cob for low effort, but inside calories fingers crossed

Good luck for the week ahead and check in on WOW

WearyAuldWumman · 21/09/2025 13:31

Went the gym yesterday and did my legs workout. Suffered for it afterwards, but used cold compresses and the pain has died down. Guess I must have overdone it.

Weighed myself. Up two pounds?! shakes fist

LemonDrizzle23 · 21/09/2025 16:18

I am avoiding the scales after a long weekend of illness, cold and carbs! Feeling a bit better this afternoon, and finally left the couch and pottered for about 20mins in town and did some gardening. That’s enough to tire me out for now! Aiming to get back to my walking tomorrow.

@WearyAuldWumman I’m always “heavier” the day after an intense workout. I think it’s your muscles drawing in water. Hopefully if you check again tomorrow morning it will have disappeared a bit.

WearyAuldWumman · 21/09/2025 17:22

@LemonDrizzle23 Aha! That might be it.

At the end of the workout I felt okay, just tired; by night I had to apply the ice packs. It seems to have settled now. Thinking about it, I moved up a weight on both the leg press and the leg extension.

I'm trying to build up the muscles in order to avoid too much loose thigh skin.
Lord knows I'm no beauty, but if my premium bond came up I might actually consider getting surgery for any loose skin once I've got my weight down.

When I lost more than 4 stones, loose skin was definitely not a problem - but this time round I had 5 to lose and I'm 25 years older. mourns the loss of her hormones and collagen

I'm actually on a low dose of HRT, I take 5mg of creatine in my lentil soup on workout days and I'm taking some collagen, but I don't know whether it's helping.

On the plus side, I think that it's helped to address my hair problem. I lost a lot of hair 4 years ago. I don't think anyone else noticed because my hair's always been quite thick, but I could see a wider parting and fewer strands in some areas. The collagen seems to be helping in that department - I'm seeing lots of baby hairs coming in now, a mix of white, grey and dark brown. I'll take any colour!

Determinedloser · 21/09/2025 17:47

Haven’t weighed today as scales need charged. Probably for the best as was out for dinner last night and it was carbs carbs carbs!

TheWayTheLightFalls · 22/09/2025 07:08

Weight holding steady here at 73.7kg / 162lbs. Saturday was a complete junk fest - ate a late breakfast at a food market which was a sort of breakfast burger, then a panini for lunch with a friend, and then McDonald's for dinner. Yesterday was better.

Plan for today is either one or two meals, and wrapping up before 2pm. Lots of coffee, herbal tea etc. Dog walk.

I seem to have hurt my foot - a bit of it has been swelling up and feeling painful over the past few days - and a bit of googling brings up bursitis. Argh.

PreetyinPurple · 22/09/2025 07:42

So no chance and picked up a small knee injury so have had to stop going to the gym.
Hilariously Happy Scale says I will hit my next target (1kg away) in 3 YEARS!

WearyAuldWumman · 22/09/2025 12:43

I hope your knee heals quickly, @PreetyinPurple. Sorry about the foot, @TheWayTheLightFalls . Injuries are so frustrating.

The two excess pounds have gone, thank goodness. Today is a Pilates day. On the one hand, I really enjoy the class; on the other hand, getting off the floor is a real problem.

When I go to my old crocks' classes on Wednesdays and Fridays, there are chairs in the studio, so I'm allowed to put one next to the mat when I'm doing the Dead Bug for my abdominals, so it's easy for me to get up again. There are no chairs and no space for a chair in the Pilates studio.

There's a ledge at the window side and I went early last week to try to get close to that, only to discover that the studio is being renovated and we finished up in another studio with no exterior windows and no handy ledges. Grr.

If it's the same this week, I'll be doing the Dying Fly... [If you're not old enough to remember TISWAS, you won't have a clue.]

LemonDrizzle23 · 22/09/2025 14:55

Injury and sickness always seem to rear their ugly head just when you’re getting into the swing of things. Hope you’re both feeling better soon!

Apart from a nose so blocked up I’m needing to constantly breathe through my mouth, I have mostly recovered from my weekend of germs and junk food. I think it has negated any loss this week though!

Got out for my walk this morning for the first time since Thursday. Back in a calorie deficit today too.
Still not got into the swing of my Pilates yet. When I can breathe lying down, that’s on my list of things to do…

HappyLittleTreeFriend · 22/09/2025 17:34

Hopeful about weigh in Wednesday this week, had another good week calorie-wise last week and off to a positive start today - need to get myself in a good deficit Mon-Fri so I can enjoy my weekend out with friends this weekend and eat/drink what I want! Within reason of course 😂👍🏻

Skyglimmer · 22/09/2025 19:46

I'm back from a weekend away so need to get back to it. I'm really struggling with the last 4kg 😭

Fellsbells · 22/09/2025 20:54

Just checking in. Well done everyone for sticking with your eating and exercise plans.

My appetite is coming back and I feel better in myself. I’ve just signed up to Nutricheck in the hope it will help me manage my calorie intake and let me maintain. I feel this is a good weight for me. My clothes fit nicely and I’m walking the fine line of still having some curves with minimal double chin!

wherewillwegoto · 23/09/2025 00:18

I weighed myself Sunday and was down another 1.2 lbs. I'm happy with that. Slow but steady 😀

PatienceOfEngels · 23/09/2025 07:02

Checking in at 75.2kg. Have been holding steady the last 2 weeks. Happy not to have gained after a weekend of crisps (my absolute diet nemesis!).

Don't think I'm going to get down below 75 this month though. Even though I have a week left I'm off on a course for work from Saturday and I find it so hard to eat properly when staying in a hotel/travelling.

Really liked this article in the Telegraph; this is a paywall-free link. "Exercise is not the key to weight loss – these are the five things that really work"

Definitely reflects my experience. I'm always sad when I hear "I worked so hard in the gym and my weight is up".

TheWayTheLightFalls · 23/09/2025 07:39

Argh - the second line needs to be attached to the first, and now I can't edit it.

LemonDrizzle23 · 23/09/2025 10:46

@TheWayTheLightFalls the link worked for me. It was an interesting article. Definitely swimming for weight loss never worked for me as I was always starving afterwards!! Calorie deficit (when I stick to it) and walking seems to be working for me currently. And am trying to cut down UPF for health, rather than weigh loss.

@PatienceOfEngels I also dived into crisps and full sugar coke this weekend as it’s what I always crave when I’m ill! Hopefully my body will be feeling forgiving tomorrow and 3 days out of 7 won’t have done me too much harm….

FjordFancier · 23/09/2025 12:28

Well done All!

I don’t think I’ve lost anything despite not really snacking. Finally bought some scales and was 9.13 this morning but I was 10.1 last week fully dressed at my Mum’s at lunchtime. :(

sure it’s down to alcohol and cheese!
mostly getting 20,000 steps but some of it might be on a horse. My phone keeps telling me I’m doing less than last year which is annoying!

definitely need to up my water intake as I keep forgetting. And plan gym sessions for this week as I’ve yet to go back since July 🙈
I just know I am going to really struggle as my hip still aches after I had a fall from a horse in August.

PreetyinPurple · 23/09/2025 14:49

Weight creeping down a little. Now says I will lose 1kg in a year rather than 3.

I have basically lost zero weight since I joined the gym, but I’ve shrunk. I looked down in the shower earlier and i can see a difference in my thighs now.
Knee is still giving me issues so going to get a support. Wasn’t even a gym injury, I just got up awkwardly at home.

WearyAuldWumman · 23/09/2025 14:53

I’ve always been very slow to lose weight - apart from one time when I simply stopped eating (apart from a bowl of muesli and a boiled egg per day). Do not recommend.

I’m happy that I returned to the gym. There’s no doubt that I’m fitter than I was.

Attended a half hour Stretch class today. I can’t managed everything, but I’m gradually improving.

Afterwards, did my leg exercises on various bits of apparatus. When I came down the stairs to the café, I noticed that my knees were moving better, so that’s pleasing.

Have had lentil soul with creatinine, a cheese toastie and salad.

Breakfast was cornflakes.

biscuitcat · 23/09/2025 18:22

Today’s menu has just been literally everything in my cupboards 😩 I’m so, so tired from the kids and it’s zapped my motivation for anything - my oldest starting school has exhausted me as much as him! It’s balancing school, nursery (which are in opposite directions) and the baby which is killing me. Someone tell me it gets easier!

I’ve got leftovers for my dinner which are healthy if not massively low calorie - but I’m being kind to myself as saying that for today, getting through until bedtime is a higher priority than driving myself mad calorie counting. DH has been away with work and is back tomorrow for nearly a week which will make life easier.

WearyAuldWumman · 23/09/2025 18:59

Agreed @biscuit - get through the day.

TheWayTheLightFalls · 24/09/2025 06:09

Morning! WoW is 73.6kg here - holding steady, losing very slowly. Off to see a podiatrist today about my sore foot.

Good luck Wowers!

LemonDrizzle23 · 24/09/2025 07:12

Morning WOWers! I hope the week is being kind to you. Small loss for me - 0.8lbs. So close to the 13s now, I should see it by the end of Sept surely!

SW: 15 st 8
CW: 14 st 0.4
