Following on from the March thread.

Spring is here and it’s time to embrace a fresh new month, a fresh new start & fresh new habits. Jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself. These threads are for those who’d like to lose and those who wish to maintain whilst eating a healthy varied diet.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have a WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost over 3 stone. After having been on the wrong side of 12st Im now maintaining around 8st 12lb; although I’d like to see another half stone off 😬

Are you in?😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

Feel free to share your own links, tips & recipes

@janeljl i usually struggle in those moments so plan the day ahead and the day after somewhat acknowledging that in those circumstances i will most likely have something "off plan".

Oanyerselhen · 02/04/2024 22:07

Another decent day today 🥳 Finished within my cals again.
Weighing tomorrow!!
I'm not paying attention to my macros yet. If I can manage a month of solid calorie counting and see a loss then I might explore next month.

PrimalLass · 02/04/2024 22:24

About 1200 cals today. It's amazing what food you can squeeze into that with decent choices. I won't lose much weight on 1200 cals though sadly but it's creeping down.

Flowerchild547 · 03/04/2024 07:48

Not a great weigh in as 1lb up but not surprised. It’s been the bank holiday weekend and I have indulged more than I would usually.

SW: 17st 10
CW: 16st 3
GW: 10st 10
Total Loss: 21lb

Thank you all for the advice on 16:8. I think I’m going to start with 14:10 and see how it goes. My downfall is evening snacking so if I can combat that then I think I’m onto a winner weight loss wise.

Good luck to those weighing in.

mustbefunny · 03/04/2024 08:14

@Flowerchild547 21lbs down overall is brilliant! Well done. I've seen some ideas around for combatting evening snacking inc cleaning your teeth straight after dinner, going to bed early, doing something like knitting to keep your hands busy etc. also if it's tv snacking, just snacking on as low-cal a thing as possible as it still satisfies the snack urge (I'm currently enjoying celery with hummus as it's crunchy. Not quite crisp crunchy but it'll do for now!!)

I'm going out for lunch today and am staying over at my sister's tonight so it's going to be an off-plan day but I'm still going to be mindful and track.

Wildflower2022 · 03/04/2024 08:49

Hi, can I join please?

I’m currently 13 stone 13, starting weight was 17 stone immediately after birth of my son. Said son is now 18 months old so it’s coming off but slowly! I need a thread for accountability. I have developed a post pregnancy sweet tooth and coupled tiredness of a toddler I’m guilty for grabbing on the go bits.

plan is to start exercising now, 3-4 times a week and curb snacks. I would love to get down to 11stone eventually (I am tall) but first aim is 12 stone 10 by June 2024. I am a comfortable size 16 at the moment.

buzzofthebumblebee · 03/04/2024 08:50

WOW - wow indeed, but not in a good way. Definitely need to get a grip on my food intake & eating habits again.

SW / CW - 11 stone 12
GW 1 - 11 stone 2
GW 2 - 10 stone 12

Hope those been WOW'g for a while have seen a loss.

TheRealHousewife · 03/04/2024 11:04

Happy WOW 🤩 DAY ⭐️

Weigh in - 8st 12.5lbs. I’m fluctuating between this weight and 9st 1lb. I feel I’m maintaining at 1200 cals a day. For those who’ve used these threads a while they will know that previously I was on 1000-1100 to lose. I’ve upped my cals and protein, reduced carbs (spike my blood sugars to over 12 😮 ) and it seems to suit me metabolically👍. In an ideal world I’d like another 4 or 5 lbs gone but don’t want to change my cals back down.

Menu
Meal 1 - Sardine & cream cheese on gluten free low carb cob on spinach.
Meal 2 - Mediterranean omelette. Salad.
Tea, black coffee & water.

Great to have you back @CurlsnSunshinetime4tea ❤️

Welcome to the thread @Wildflower2022 @IIdentifyAsInnocent @WeKnowFrogsGoShaLaLaLaLa (have you been on this thread before? Welcome back if so) @concernedchild @Oanyerselhen @buzzofthebumblebee (welcome back❤️) @katmarie @SewingIsMySuperPower @Jelliclecats @WhatWouldTheDoctorDo @fitnessmama123 @monpetitchou @janeljl @confusedeffie @Wildflower2022

Well done on your losses ladies 👍👏 For those who are disappointed having only lost only a 1lb or 2; if the trajectory is generally downwards over time it becomes significant 👍A loss is a loss 🙂

What I find helps in avoiding evening snacking is ensuring you have enough protein, healthy fats and fibre in the day whilst reducing sugars/simple carbs etc. Sounds simple enough but I know for some the struggle is real. Balancing blood sugars really does help.

First weigh in of the month this morning. Pleasantly surprised to have lost 1lb. Been very bloated the last week due to hormones so wasn't expecting it.

Current weight: 12st 7lb
Target weight: 11st 10lb (for now!)

Emjem73 · 03/04/2024 13:08

I am stepping on the scales daily but focusing on Wednesday weigh ins.
CW:13 st 4 lb
TW: 10 st 10 lb
Hoping to see that first number move down next Weds!

OkyDoke · 03/04/2024 14:28

Hello everyone!

I'm taking a very slow approach to weight loss (I wish it was faster!) but started in Jan on 217.4 lbs, now 208.2 lbs. Aim for end of May is to be under 200 which sounds extremely doable. We'll see!

Off to read rest of thread now.

LemonDrizzle23 · 03/04/2024 14:49

Well done everyone weighing in today!

Have returned from holiday to see all the Easter chocolate various people have sent us. I have chosen one egg that I'm going to eat and enjoy, but the rest DH has promised to eat 😂
Will weigh in tomorrow morning, as my happy scale app tells me I haven't recorded a weight for 17 days 😬

IIdentifyAsInnocent · 03/04/2024 14:49

SW 10st 8. 75lb
CW 10st 7lb
TW 9st 7lb

Only started this week so happy with that, even though it's probably just water loss!!! 🤣

Hoolahoophop · 03/04/2024 15:56

Haven't caught up but wanted to post quickly so as not to loose interest.
SW 58.5kg 11 March
CW 57.6kg Easter did not do me much good.
GW 50.0kg 22nd May 7 weeks.

I am not sure it is possible. But I would be happy with 53kg and then go again after my holiday.

Today
Snacks 1 apple, 1 kitkat bunny, 1 mini egg thingy. 250cal
Lunch 1 2xegg thing with mushroom, spring onion, tomato spinach and a tiny bit of feta. 300cal
Dinner stir fry maybe with prawns or tofu 600cal

1150 so far and i feel starving so likely some snacks when I get it. Not a great day.

janeljl · 03/04/2024 16:38

Well done everyone. Keep on going, even if it's not a loss today.

CW 9st 6 this morning
GW 9st 0

I've got a poorly child with me today and motivation is low. I feel so hungry but I'm fighting the urge to hide in the cupboard and eat all the Easter chocolate!

Stayed within my calories yesterday and hoping to do the same today.

Wakeupandsmelltherain · 03/04/2024 16:40

What are you using to work out your calorie allowance? I'm staying on the higher side of the range on nhs bmi calculator site for a few days then will see if need to drop further.

43ontherocksporfavor · 03/04/2024 17:20

L: 2 egg omelette with mushrooms, apple
D: spicy mackerel pasta( brown) with salad.
30 min dog walk this morning
5 k run tonight

My fitness pal. I put my goal as 1lb loss a week and it tells me I can eat 1670 calories a day. You do need to remember to go in every stone or so as you're losing and just re-save your goals/profile to make sure it recalculates and reduces your allowance.

43ontherocksporfavor · 03/04/2024 17:33

I’m not counting calories though I have a rough idea. I’m doing g 18:6 or 17:7 by skipping breakfast as I find that easier. Aiming not to go above 1400 which is roughly my sedentary TDEE at my goal weight. I’m eating nutritious food/ Mediterranean diet and keeping carbs whole grain and in small portions. I think I’m well within those calories in the week but probably at 1400 or a bit more at the weekend so hoping it evens out.

mustbefunny · 03/04/2024 18:33

WOW #1

SW: 152lbs (1/4/24)
CW: 149lbs (3/4/24)
GW: 140lbs in 8 weeks (in time for a holiday!)

3lbs down but also 3rd G&T down so don't think the scales would be as kind if I was weighing in tomorrow!

Wildflower2022 · 03/04/2024 18:58

I’ve worked out my basal metabolic rate based on age/height/weight and gone from there. You should be able to find a calculator if you type it into google.

so my basal metabolic rate with light exercise is 2250ish. So if I consumed this many calories daily I would maintain my weight. I go for 500ish less a day, so around 1750. Seems to be working for me so far.

CurlsnSunshinetime4tea · 03/04/2024 22:07

well @TheRealHousewife it would be much better if i had maintained my weight in the 141-145 zone (doubt i'd ever get lower without intervention of some sort) rather than allowed it to creep back up during the winter but i did maintain for a while. the weight gain from 145 to 151 was over a good 18 months but the 151 to 160 was quick!
however i do know how to reverse this and am pleased with this am weigh in.
SW 154.2 (salt from the ham obviously)
CW 150.8
Jan-Feb (went really well for focus) but March hit the household with a strange lingering upper respiratory bug (negative for covid according to the nearly expired test kits).
So the April thread was a perfect opportunity to recommit to my bmi goal.
I did read you are doing wonderfully with your weight loss!!! congratulations my friend.

i follow some IF, and eat between 0930-17:30pm
3 small low cal meals 250-250-500 plus one snack at 3pm which i do not weigh or calculate. almost nothing packaged in this house so all meals fresh (a good sized garden for the summer/fall months).
daily exercise 30-45 of the Walk at Home series (annual subscription)
2l of water and a multivit to cover all the bases.

issue is dh who has a much bigger appetite and is both a good cook and who prepares half the meals. he's a bee keeper so abundant honey supply and usage. and a weakness for cheese/nuts and pumpkin seeds 😉

talkingdeadscot · 03/04/2024 22:31

First WOW of April

SW (June 2023) - 93kg
First Goal - 72kg (achieved Christmas 2023)
GW - 55kg
CW - 65kg

0.5 kg for me again this week. 10kg to go! I think at the current rate it'll take me to Christmas to lose it but it's okay.

Castlerigg · 03/04/2024 22:38

Can I join? I've been hovering around 150-153lb for the last six months or so, but I'd like to get back to 133lb, which was my weight pre-covid.

I started intermittent fasting a couple of weeks back, but struggled with extending the duration. As part of it though I started properly tracking my eating in MFP, that was pretty eye opening.

I'm aiming for 1000 calories a day or less, with minimal UPF, low carbs and lots of protein.

Yesterday was the first time I've been under 150lb since at least Christmas, probably longer, which was a massive boost.

FlabMonsterIsDietingAgain · 03/04/2024 22:42

Bit of added motivation. I'm now heading to the US for a work thing at the beginning of June where there will be lots of important meetings and a whole 8 hrs of squeezing my arse into an airplane seat so now I really need to lose some weight!
