Following on from the March thread.

Spring is here and it’s time to embrace a fresh new month, a fresh new start & fresh new habits. Jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself. These threads are for those who’d like to lose and those who wish to maintain whilst eating a healthy varied diet.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have a WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost over 3 stone. After having been on the wrong side of 12st Im now maintaining around 8st 12lb; although I’d like to see another half stone off 😬

Are you in?😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

Feel free to share your own links, tips & recipes

Is anyone else really struggling to get enough steps in with this weather? I need to walk the dog but we have 50mph wind and sideways torrential rain 😩 Hopefully it will ease off later but then I don't like to walk as far when it's dark.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 06/04/2024 18:40

Well done on reaching your goal weight @wiltingflower that’s great news.

my plans the be active while I was away didn’t quite go according to plan 🙄 but I will be WOW see where I am and see if I can shake off half a stone by my summer holidays. I’ll need to really work at it though!

FlabMonsterIsDietingAgain · 06/04/2024 18:48

We have had a beautiful sunny day here today, very windy, but lovely and warm in the sun. I have spent a big portion of the day pulling weeds and taking bags of garden waste to the tip so counting that as exercise.

ApricitySeeker · 06/04/2024 22:15

Hello, I’d like to join if that’s ok?

I lost 20kg of baby weight back in 2021. I found these threads so supportive and encouraging and they really helped keep me on track and in a positive mindset.

I had my third (and final) baby in 2022. She’s now nearly 2 and I really want to do something to shift the weight from my pregnancy. I didn’t gain as much as in the previous ones but I still have about 15kg I’d like to lose. I’ve been putting more effort into making healthy choices since the start of January but in the last couple of weeks I’ve started tracking calories and it’s helping keep me on track.

Last time I managed to lost the weight by tracking all my calories on my Fitbit app so I will be doing this going forward. I was on 1200 calories last time but I’m finding that really restrictive this time so I’ve upped it to 1500 and I seem to be losing albeit not as fast but it feels more sustainable.

I’ve been doing Pilates and swimming when I can but not able to do many forms of exercise due to a back injury I had during my second pregnancy which caused all sorts of problems which left me unable to walk for 6 months and I ended up needed surgery on it. Long story short I am ok now but have residual disc damage and flare ups of sciatica so I have to be careful but have been advised by my consultant that walking, Pilates and swimming are good for it so will be doing more going forward. My BMI is 26.6 at the moment and I’d like to get that down to a healthy one and maintain it. With my back problems I really don’t want any extra weight causing more problems and also have a strong family history of diabetes which is helping to concentrate my efforts on getting back to a healthy weight.

My current stats are-

SW- 81 kg
CW- 76.5 kg
GW- 62 Kg

Come and join in @ApricitySeeker, all welcome here ! It’s worth having a look at @TheRealHousewife post at the beginning of the thread if you haven’t already, but it’s a friendly supportive thread here.

Oanyerselhen · 07/04/2024 13:22

I'm on day 7 of my calorie counting streak. Have never lasted that long before. Feel committed.

I'm forever shocked by the calorie content of some things! Live and learn....

Looking forward to weighing in on Wednesday. The batteries have been changed! Let's hope it lasts.

Those that weigh daily, is the average weight loss very different to what you were seeing weighing weekly?

FlabMonsterIsDietingAgain · 07/04/2024 13:33

Hello newbies and well done to everyone who's managing to stick it out.

I have entered that delightful point of low carbing where the food chat in my brain goes quiet and I 'forget' to eat.

Was out in the garden most of the day yesterday attacking the weeds and brambles. It got to about 4pm and I realised I hadn't had breakfast or lunch and I didn't feel hungry.

So far today I've had a pack of beef jerky and only because everyone else was eating so I figured I should have something too.

janeljl · 07/04/2024 17:17

@Oanyerselhen I prefer it because my weight fluctuates by up to 2lbs each day so. If my weekly weigh in day happens to be on a really light day, then it is inevitably higher the following week which I find really depressing if I've been sticking to my diet. Obviously everyone is different though but it works better for me.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 07/04/2024 18:50

Calorie counting was a game changer for me @Oanyerselhen I was really shocked about the calorie count of some foods, and it really helped me reduce portion sizes and identify where I was sabotaging myself at the weekends despite ‘being healthy’ all week.

I got back to the exercise today with a Les mills bodycombat class. Felt good to do it. Back to the calorie counting from tomorrow.

FlabMonsterIsDietingAgain · 07/04/2024 18:59

@Oanyerselhen I like to weigh daily because I like seeing the trends, I find if i have a particularly 'exercisey' day that I can gain weight overnight but then if I make sure i have lots of water it disappears the next day, sometimes taking a bit extra with it. Also my monthly cycle affects the scales a lot, I always plateau in the week before I come on, then drop a lb or 2 on the first day of my period.

I also find it helpful being able to see the gradient, yes it zigs and zags up and down but the overall trend line is down and that helps to motivate me to keep going.

Oanyerselhen · 07/04/2024 21:05

@FlabMonsterIsDietingAgain @janeljl thanks. Very interesting. I'll maybe give it a try but I can see how that graph would be motivating.

Wee bit disappointed tonight. My husband is the cook in the house but since calorie counting I've been sorting myself and leaving him to the rest of the family. I've been explaining how to count a meal all week. God love him, he cooked tonight but didn't take any start weights for all the raw ingredients so there wasn't much I could do. Couldn't tell him in not eating it as he'd tried.

It was broadly healthy and I only had one portion so I've made peace.

@WhatWouldTheDoctorDo I'm planning to move my body a bit more this week but still trying to find pockets of time after going back FT after maternity leave.
@what

sheepdreams · 08/04/2024 06:41

Hi all

can I rejoin your group? I started last year but dropped out after a few posts due to dealing with bereavement and personal issues. I still need to lose 2 stone! I’m hoping to start on Wednesday

using IF/LC approach. Getting lots of inspiration from your thread.

janeljl · 08/04/2024 06:43

@Oanyerselhen I usually don't worry too much with a meal cooked from scratch. My husband cooks as well. Once I'm in the swing of calorie counting I find I'm ok as long as I leave a decent amount of calories for the evening meal and eat a reasonable portion. I don't estimate the exact calories but sort of get a feel for what a sensible amount looks like if that makes any sense? But it does take a bit of practice (and will power!) to get to that point.

PatienceOfEngels · 08/04/2024 06:48

Still plodding along.

Drank more water this weekend.
Getting my hip/pf exercises in twice daily.
Keeping up evening walk.
Avoiding UPF at meals.

This week trying to work on yoga on non-working days, no UPF snacking and no evening eating.

Today:
B - boiled egg and rye toast, butter, coffee
S - fruit
L - Thai yellow curry with chicken and lots of veg, rice
D - shoarma wraps with peppers, onion, garlic, lettuce, cucumber salad

After breakfast only water and herbal tea to drink.
Evening walk.

43ontherocksporfavor · 08/04/2024 06:53

Hi all. Been away for a long weekend. Walked loads (15k a day) but wasn’t watching what I ate. Back to it today.

GameOfJones · 08/04/2024 07:26

Hello all, please can I re-join? I had briefly been on a previous thread but life got in the way.

I was also demotivated because I'd lost a stone, then I went away on holiday a couple of weeks ago and put on 5lbs! I've made a concerted effort last week and lost 2lbs so I know it'll come off but it just feels so, so easy to put the weight on and much harder to lose it again.

My general plan is that I calorie count using My Fitness Pal, cut down on UPF and limit alcohol to weekends. Plus walking, cycling and some weights for exercise.

Meal plan for the day is:

B - yoghurt, strawberries and almonds
L - hummus on wholegrain sourdough and an apple
D - Pollen and Grace garden vegetable pie (ready meal but they don't add any artificial ingredients) with some extra green vegetables

SW: 15st 1lb
CW: 14st 4lb
GW: my first goal is to be at 13st by the summer

LemonDrizzle23 · 08/04/2024 07:36

Welcome to all the people joining in April 👋
It's a very supportive thread.

Second week of the Easter hols this week, so lots of play dates and less gym time. My intentions this week are:

  • Intermittent fasting (where activities allow)
  • Gym session today, Wednesday and Thursday (while DS has clubs).
  • Calorie counting with nutracheck
  • No easter egg binges

Not sure I'm going to be hitting my steps, but we'll see how it goes.

Dopaminefuelled · 08/04/2024 09:51

Hi, joining in please! I have 6 stone to lose. It feels insurmountable. I have a holiday end of May. Not sure what a reasonable target is for then but I'd like to be feeling more comfortable at least.
Where do you all record you weight and measurements? Diary/app/spreadsheet?

OkyDoke · 08/04/2024 10:06

I don't feel like I had a terrible weekend, but didn't get chance to weigh this morning - will try tomorrow! Off to the gym tonight to do Couch to 5k Week 3 Run 3!

buzzofthebumblebee · 08/04/2024 10:38

Monday morning check-in to read everyone's progress for motivation, and for accountability.

Meals = good
Exercise = good
Snacking = good during the day- until I sit down to relax after dinner when I just can't stop myself. But stop myself I have to - as I'm sabotaging all the rest of my day's efforts. Need to give myself a very stern talking to.

A couple of days before WOW - determined to see a loss, so must be restrained this evening.

Welcome 😊 I aim to lose 2lbs a week. For me, when I first begin a diet, I tend to lose more then 2lbs but it does slow down after that. I am going away for a weekend in mid May which is 6 weeks time. I'm hoping to lose 12lbs but we will see!!
I bought a set of scales from Amazon that link to an app on my phone. All my details are then saved to the app. I also have a calorie counting app (lose it) which I record my weight on too.

Good luck! X

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 08/04/2024 20:13

Happy Monday everyone. I’m easing my way back into things after an overindulgent week or so. Managed to resist some birthday cake in the office and started the Les mills strength bootcamp today. My legs were shaking! It’s gonna hurt tomorrow.

Had a sneaky peak on the scales this morning, currently 2lb above where I was two weeks ago, but I’ll stick to Wed for my official weigh in date and see how things have settled by then.

@Dopaminefuelled we have a weigh in on Wednesdays (WOW) though some do Monday, Friday or daily. I’m a nutracheck fan for calorie counting - I find it much more accurate and UK focused than MyFitnessPal. It’s around £23 for an annual membership I think, but I think that’s pretty good value.

6 stone must feel really daunting, maybe break it down to half stone at a time? Slow and steady is the way forward for sustainable loss (ime).

Wildflower2022 · 10/04/2024 06:44

Hi all,

kicking off WOW thanks to my very early waking toddler! I’ve lost 3 pounds which astonishes me as I’ve been a bit on and off this week. Much better than previous thanks to this thread though 😊. Now 13 stone 10.

last week I was weighing prior to my period so that may be contributing. I can’t find who mentioned pollen and grace meals but thank you, they look like a great alternative when I am knackered/short on time in the evening.

janeljl · 10/04/2024 06:56

Morning all,

9st 4.5lbs for me this morning which is the lowest I've seen since before Christmas when I had a brief flirtation with intuitive eating! I'm actually weighing daily and taking an average but this week is already looking lower.

It's been a bit of a struggle with feeling quite hungry and as I've got DD with me, I've not been able to get as many steps in. There's also the matter of left over birthday cake and scones staring at me in the kitchen but I'm trying to include 'treats' in my calorie counting. My willpower is holding out so far...
