HELLO & WELCOME! This thread is for those of us who enjoy healthy eating, exercising and feeling motivated to reach (or maintain) a healthy weight/bmi. The founding members of these threads are inspirational and supportive in equal measure. I’m sure @SunshineCake & @halfshrunkmoretogo won’t mind me using them as Poster Girls.

They have both demonstrated that if we eat right, get outside & move more your mental health will heap the rewards. Better mental health = better choices. It becomes a self fulfilling prophecy.

Me personally? In the main it’s been a way of life for 3 years and I’ve lost over 40lbs. I calorie count, log via MFP app, Intermittent fast, eat-low carb Mediterranean style aka Fast800 Plan and try to stay well hydrated. Due to pain medications I gained in January; however since I’ve stopped them (for now) I’m losing about a 1lb every couple of days (water weight). My goal for February is to see a firm loss of 4lbs.

There are so many enjoyable lifestyle options out there without the need to resort to extreme measures. Whatever way you choose, it needs to be enjoyable & sustainable for the long term. This is a long term commitment rather than a quick fix. I rarely drink alcohol and keep sugar to a minimum. I exercise by doing walking vids & strength sessions with light weighs.

As no one size fits all members need to follow their own way of eating. Nonetheless this thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

There is no shaming, competition or harsh words to be found on these threads. We are in this together.

Thank you for starting the new thread! I am doing WW online, and lost exactly a stone i January.

Scales haven’t moved much this week so not sure what tomorrow’s weigh in will bring, but my only aim is to end February lighter than I started it!

Good luck to all!

LongIslandIcedT · 31/01/2021 21:43

I'm in. Currently the heaviest I've been in the last 15yrs pregnancy aside. It's been a combination of Xmas, after that a big birthday celebration (I've finished off all the wine and chocolates) and we have bought a deep fat fryer (my god, the food is scrumptious but my arse is not thanking me).

So a slightly delayed new year start which is usual for me due to my birthday. My plan is IF 18:6 which is perfectly doable for me, I'm not a huge breakfast eater.

LizzieMacQueen · 31/01/2021 21:48

I'll join you. I've surprised myself this last week. 8 days so far of no biscuits, crisps, sweets and bread. It's what works for me. Snacks are steamed veg and boiled eggs.

But. I'm on naproxen for arthritis. Relatively recent prescription. Will that affect my weight loss?

I plan not to weigh myself, I go by how tight my clothes feel.

Ladywinesalot · 31/01/2021 21:50

Hi,

I’d like to join please.
I’ve just completed Dry Jan, lost 5lbs and feeling pretty chuffed with myself.

Participating in a DJ thread I think really helped me to stock so I’m thinking of using the same tactic with my fat loss.

I’m 12st and would like to be 10st, with a 7lb loss per month.

I log calories with MFP, aim to eat under 1500 calories per day and run/Hiit 3-4 times per week, high protein with every meal, no alcohol in Feb.

Here goes nothing!

sharkan · 31/01/2021 22:28

Hi I'm joining too. I'm the heaviest I've ever been a combination of baby weight, lockdown for the best part of a year (ireland) and homeschooling 4 kids and looking after baby. It has to stop now. My baby is nearly one so I have stop making excuses. I'm breastfeeding and have always struggled to lose weight whilst doing so but I think he'll wean soon so I'm hoping by starting to be healthier now the weight will just disappear when he's weaned.
I plan to do intermittent fasting and just move more I'm aiming for 30mins on the exercise bike daily and perhaps a walk if I can get the time. I'm aiming to be 5st lighter by this time next year. Good luck everyone.

TheRealHousewife · 31/01/2021 22:56

A warm welcome @hopingforabrighterfuture2021 @sharkan @LongIslandIcedT @Ladywinesalot & @LizzieMacQueen.

@LizzieMacQueen I don’t know about Naproxen? Do you have to take them with food? Do you have a patient information leaflet in the packet? Remember it doesn’t mean you’ll get any/all of the side effects listed. Meds affect everyone differently. Good luck and I hope they bring you relief.

February usually flies by, being a shorter month. I’ve firmed up my resolve and will endeavour to eat mindfully and healthily. Exercise and getting enough water in are my downfalls. I find the eating bit easy. Eat to my cals, within a 7 hour window or shorter etc. But water & exercise ... that’s another matter 😬

Mrstumbletap · 31/01/2021 23:11

Can I join please?

Lockdown, no exercise and Christmas chocolate and cheese have made me gain about 10lbs (I'm guessing as I am too terrified to get on the scales)

Lost 2 stone a 2 years ago doing the 5:2 with the amazing help in the thread, but I get such bad headaches I find it hard.

Going to go back to occasional fasts and MFP as that is also quite consistent for me to lose.

Checking in with this group would be lovely, I'm rubbish losing weight on my own!

LongIslandIcedT · 01/02/2021 06:23

Water I used to struggle with too Therealhousewife. I prefer drinking from bottles with straws in, like big sippy cups. I have one by my bed one downstairs close to hand. I drink them without realising most of the time.

Elle200 · 01/02/2021 08:35

Thanks for the new thread and hello to all.

I start this month at 95.4kgs, down from 97.9 at the start of January.

I'm thinking of doing the James Duncan diet sometime this month to hopefully boost things along a bit! Usually IF and calorie counting.

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 01/02/2021 09:39

Happy February everyone and thank goodness January finally ended!

Right I need to get back some motivation, January there was some loss but overall I ate too much in general but definitely too much convenience packaged snacks and moved too little. If I'm gonna get to a healthy BMI I need to do better so here goes.

February target is to lose 7lb.

This week I will be:

  • drinking 2L water a day
  • having a vegetable lunch
  • no snacks after 8pm
  • 30 minutes of moving a day even if it's just a walk.
  • no weekend 'days off' sick of putting everything I lose during the week back on over the weekend!
Ladywinesalot · 01/02/2021 09:47

Morning all,
What are your meal plans today?
I don’t know what to have for lunch, any suggestions?

B: 2 Wholemeal Toast & 2 eggs
L:
D: Spag Bolognase

2 litres of water
Hiit done

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 01/02/2021 10:08

My lunch will be green beans, mushrooms and spring onion either in an omelette or steamed and served with some chicken breast slices

Pepper54 · 01/02/2021 10:30

Morning everyone and welcome new joiners.

Day 8 for me.
SW 161 lbs
CW 158 lbs

Pleased with that loss. I would like to lose another 3 lbs this week and get out of the 11stones. I slept badly, energy levels low. Will try and do my C25K. This week I am going to cut out bread completely.

B Coffee
L Tuna, tomatoes and salad leaves
D Roast veg

LizzieMacQueen · 01/02/2021 10:39

I've prepared roast veg for dinner later, minimal oil, couldn't do without that. I'll have it with poached salmon.

Lunch will be lentil soup made yesterday & Oatcakes.

Not had anything to eat yet today. Will have a coffee in a moment, maybe with a piece of fruit.

That all sounds a lot calorie wise but if I can stay off bread and snacks then I know I can do this.

TheRealHousewife · 01/02/2021 11:04

Good Morning Everyone

It’s a lovely morning here; sun shining, birds singing etc. Very cold and crisp. Hope the weathers settled where ever you are.

A warm welcome @Mrstumbletap, jump right in. You’ve already proved to yourself you can do it 😬

@HalfShrunkMoreToGo overall you have done fantastic! You’ve recognised where the slips have started to creep in and made a declaration to address. You’re an inspiration! You can do it!

@LongIslandIcedT good ideas! Thank you. I do have jugs of lemon water about. It gets to the end of the day and it’s still full. I’m trying to get into the habit of a glass or too before meals and after each loo visit.

@Pepper54 you’ve made a good start there!

@Ladywinesalot my lunch today is home made mushroom soup and apple & cottage cheese. Evening meal is heaps of veg and a small portion of roast lamb (from yesterday’s roast). Small portion of Kefir yoghurt & strawberries. Coffee, tea and heaps of water 😬.

Have a great day & stay safe.

Hello, I’d like to join too. I started in January and I’m down 5kg but still have 18 to go! I’m not doing any particular diet as I don’t do well with them but eating healthier, cutting out junk and walking as much as I can. Logging my food on Fitbit has really helped so I can control my portion sizes a bit better as I fell into a habit of having far too much at every meal. Also sticking to around 1200 calories.

I have 2 small children at home and I had spinal surgery in December so I’m not able to walk anywhere near as much as I’d like but I’m improving and can now push a pram again so can get out a bit more.

I’m happy I’ve dropped 5kg in a month and it’s really spurred me on to lose the rest of it. I’ve also not found it as hard as I’ve thought and not feeling too hungry most days.

SunshineCake · 01/02/2021 17:37

Hi everyone

Thank you for your kind words on the previous thread, @TheRealHousewife. I was feeling very fed up plus hormonal and felt embarrassed. This morning I ran 7km after three days off and did great times. I was going to weigh less often but as it is the first of the month I needed a start point. I got on and reminded myself how heavy I was in May and then looked down. Thought I had lost 0.2lb but turns out I'm up 0.8lb. I'm ok.

I'm disappointed as spent a fair bit on a new coat and it is too big. I used their measurements too as well so seriously fed up. Can't send back as I wore it in the rain as my old coat had a broken zip.

SunshineCake · 01/02/2021 17:44

Welcome @Ladywinesalot and well done on DJ and your loss so far. Could you tell me about the need, and benefits, of protein at every meal please?

joysmoy66 · 01/02/2021 17:44

Thanks for the new thread! Starting the month at 10 st 6 and would like to be 10 stone or just a smidge underSmile

hopingforabrighterfuture2021 · 01/02/2021 18:12

First weigh in of February this morning and stayed the same weight, annoying as been completely on track, BUT I have still lost 14lb in 5 weeks which is pretty good.

Onwards and downwards! Hope everyone is doing well.

Puffalicious · 01/02/2021 18:24

Hi all, I love these threads for keeping focused, I seriously think they've kept me from falling off the wagon on the days I slip up (usually cheese or bread and butter!).

I've been here since mid October. Put 2lbs on at Xmas, which I had to lose again , and I'm a slooooow loser but 17lbs off now.

Goal for Feb - 4lbs taking me to a stone and a half. Big psychological goal for me as that will be half way.

Good luck all. We can hit Feb together.

Ablemaybel · 01/02/2021 19:26

Hi all, can I join please?

I'm the heaviest I've ever been at 11st 11lbs. Would like to get down to 10st eventually, but would be more than happy with a 7lb loss for February. My healthy eating has gone out the window through lockdown and Christmas, and I've got to the point of knowing I really need to sort myself out!

Went for a brisk hour walk with my daughter (who also wants to lose some weight) earlier, walked almost two and a half miles. Felt really good afterwards, we plan on walking 3 times a week.

I use MFP and will try sticking to 1,300 calories each day, cutting out all snacks and drinking more water.

Mrstumbletap · 01/02/2021 21:57

Stuck to 1200 ish cals today and feel good.

CommanderBurnham · 01/02/2021 22:01

I'm in. Just doing a mixture of exante bars, and a low cal high protein meal. Also being my mums emotional punchbag is putting me off my food nicely.

Exercise: peloton and 75000 steps a week.

Got a stone to lose to start with.

Good luck everyone.

CescaNicole · 02/02/2021 12:06

Hi Everyone
Happy February

Start weight for Feb: 10 st 6lb
Original Start Weight in Oct 2020: 12 st 1 lb
Goal weight: 9 st 7 lb

For Feb my goal is to get another 3lb off so I want to finish it at 10 st 3 lb.
Other goals: exercise 4x a week, stay within my calories on MFP, 2L of water a day.

I'm having a real issue emotional eating this side of Christmas. It's really is mind over matter but I keep giving in recently.
