HELLO & WELCOME! This thread is for those of us who enjoy healthy eating, exercising and feeling motivated to reach (or maintain) a healthy weight/bmi. The founding members of these threads are inspirational and supportive in equal measure. I’m sure @SunshineCake & @halfshrunkmoretogo won’t mind me using them as Poster Girls.

They have both demonstrated that if we eat right, get outside & move more your mental health will heap the rewards. Better mental health = better choices. It becomes a self fulfilling prophecy.

Me personally? In the main it’s been a way of life for 3 years and I’ve lost over 40lbs. I calorie count, log via MFP app, Intermittent fast, eat-low carb Mediterranean style aka Fast800 Plan and try to stay well hydrated. Due to pain medications I gained in January; however since I’ve stopped them (for now) I’m losing about a 1lb every couple of days (water weight). My goal for February is to see a firm loss of 4lbs.

There are so many enjoyable lifestyle options out there without the need to resort to extreme measures. Whatever way you choose, it needs to be enjoyable & sustainable for the long term. This is a long term commitment rather than a quick fix. I rarely drink alcohol and keep sugar to a minimum. I exercise by doing walking vids & strength sessions with light weighs.

As no one size fits all members need to follow their own way of eating. Nonetheless this thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

There is no shaming, competition or harsh words to be found on these threads. We are in this together.

It's sooo cold and snowy where I am!! Everyday I get to about 2pm and want to throw the towel in and have hot chocolate and warm croissants 😩
Mental resilience is not my forte.

Weigh Day tomorrow, haven't weighed for a while as I'm scared!

Hope you're all warm and well x

132orbust · 09/02/2021 14:10

@CescaNicole don't do it!!!!

CescaNicole · 09/02/2021 15:12

@132orbust haha thankyou for the encouragement. 😃

I've had a black coffee and changed my lockscreen to a pic of me with a double chin instead. 🤣

132orbust · 09/02/2021 21:42

Well done @CescaNicole
I have a yearn for one of the chocolate chip cookies that DD1 and DD2 baked and I would have it IF I was back to Thursday's weight, but I'm not so I will restrain myself.
No need for it and it would break 16:8 rules anyway.

Puffalicious · 11/02/2021 11:25

Hi everyone,

Delighted with a 2lbs loss this week. I do think my sludgy metabolism only loses every 2nd week, which is fine as long as it's coming off.

19lbs down. It's been a slow burn since mid October and a lot of effort but almost at the stone and a half, another goal and halfway, that'll feel good 👍

letsjog · 11/02/2021 17:56

Hi All

Don't feel like I've started "properly" yet just kind of easing myself in. Did my first workout yesterday Joe Wicks 20min full body + 7 min abs add on. Felt fine but sore shoulders and shoulder blades/back today which might be due to the fact I'm coming down with a bit of a cold. My DCs had one this past week definitely not "you know what" as been tested. But nevertheless feeling under the weather is not very conductive.

Made some 5 ingredient granola bars to have in place of chocolate and crisps when feeling like having a snack. They are surprisingly good, I opted for the full version with dates and almond butter for the protein and to keep me full. Cut them into slightly smaller portions than the recipe states. Good option for DCs too.

Trying to figure out ways to shake this cold, also going to perhaps make a meal plan tonight.

Sending motivation to everyone through the screen!

SunshineCake · 11/02/2021 18:09

Hi all

I haven't been able to run since Friday as we have too much snow and ice and I hoped the rest would sort the back and hip pain that is back. It hasn't Sad. I thought I stayed the same but I think I'm up 1.5lb. I'm okay with that. It's my birthday tomorrow so I'll not be fasting tonight and tomorrow Grin and then the snow is due to go so I hope to be running Monday or Tuesday.

Puffalicious · 11/02/2021 19:04

Happy birthday for tomorrow Sunshine Cake . It only comes round once a year, so make the most of it and enjoy it.WineCakeFlowersStar

CescaNicole · 11/02/2021 20:28

Well Done @Puffalicious, 19 lbs down is amazing 🎉

That Granola bar recipe sounds yummy @letsjog!! 😋

Happy Birthday @SunshineCake 🎂🎈
Hope you have a fabulous day!!

Today was another Choc/Maca Powder Smoothie for breakfast, Chicken Mulligatawny Soup for lunch, and Fajitas for dinner (stuffed them with a tonne of chicken and salad, tiniest itsy bitsy bit of cheese and salsa).

2.5 litres of water done 💦

40 minute strength workout, whilst the biggest ate breakfast and the littlest napped.

Puffalicious · 11/02/2021 20:41

CesvaNicole snap with the fajitas! I'm getting good at having just veg, home made guacamole and no cheese, just low fat creme francie. Still delish.

Well done on the workout. I had a solo (such a treat) snowy power walk- my theory is im burning more calories whilst it's -6 outside!

Puffalicious · 11/02/2021 20:42

Fraiche although francie sounds lovely!

CescaNicole · 11/02/2021 22:13

@Puffalicious you are so good not to have any cheese. I could probably eat a whole block in one go, I love it so much 😂

Puffalicious · 11/02/2021 23:52

That's exactly like me. If I started I'd eat ALL the cheese!

Foreverlexicon · 12/02/2021 07:30

Apologies for not updating much. Keto is going well, I’ve stuck for it apart from one night at work where we had to deal with a pretty horrific incident and the big boss bought us all pizza so I did have a couple of slices. I weighed myself yesterday and have lost 5.4lb in 10 days which I’m pleased with.

The only thing I’m struggling with is lack of chocolate so I think I need to pick up some dark chocolate later and see how that goes. Only exercise is dog walking. Can’t wait to be able to ride and go to the gym again.

We have just had an offer accepted on a house which is terrifying and fantastic in all measures. I currently live in a house my dad bought for me to live in as I was quite young and living at home when my mum died and I couldn’t afford to rent a place and I also inherited dogs so I couldn’t go into a house share. It’s been fantastic especially in the early days of my career as I would’ve had to sell my horses otherwise which would of devastated my mum but it’s time to be an adult and get on the property market. I just want IKEA to open so I can browse kitchens!

SunshineCake · 12/02/2021 07:33

Thank you for my birthday wishes. Just been a knock at the door and dh has had a birthday cake from Betty's in York delivered ShockGrin.

@Foreverlexicon well done on your weight loss. Could you tell me about Keto please? I'm doing intermittent fasting but it's a slow loss process at the moment.

Foreverlexicon · 12/02/2021 07:43

Slow and steady though @SunshineCake, you have done fantastically since I came on this thread last year!

Essentially it’s low carb, meant to be within 20-30g a day but I don’t bother to count. So no obvious carbs, no fruit apart from berries and no carbs veg like sweetcorn/peas/carrots. It’s a bit odd at first not having fruit and eating lots of cream, cheese and bacon and I was always against the idea as I’m completely addicted to chocolate but actually, I’m pretty converted. The meals are delicious because the fat content makes them really decadent, if I’m hungry, I can just eat and I don’t have to count anything.

I am struggling a bit with the lack of sweet/chocolate fix but there are tonnes of recipes online for deserts and sweet snacks so I’m going to start experimenting a bit or just try a couple of squares of dark chocolate in an evening.

I’m not hungry at all, I used to skip the occasional meal if I was busy at work and didn’t have time but now I rarely have breakfast just because I’m not hungry and I can’t be bothered. I’m also feeling better in myself; I’m not getting hangry, my blood sugar seems to be stabilised and I used to need at least a hour nursing a cup of coffee in the mornings before feeling remotely human but now I feel much more alert when I wake up.

Like I said, I used to be dead against it but right now, frankly if I can find a good substitute for my chocolate fix, I feel I could do this more or less forever.

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 12/02/2021 08:02

Happy birthday @SunshineCake 🥳

LarryUnderwood · 12/02/2021 11:38

Happy Friday everyone and happy birthday @SunshineCake
Checking in for my weekly weigh in.
SW 165
CW 155.8
GW 133

0.5 lbs lost this week but I'm actually quite happy with that. I feel like I am starting to understand better how much I can/can't eat calorie-wise to lose or maintain. And I'm starting to get the hang of the idea that treats are special, not daily/hourly! The way I'm eating right now feels sustainable. Basically I'm targeting an 1verage of 1352 cals per day for slow, steady weight loss (as am largely sedentary at the moment). So most days i am eating less - 950-1100 cals. And then a couple of times a week, I eat more. But its ok cos I have it 'in the bank'.

Pepper54 · 12/02/2021 14:47

Happy Birthday SunshineCake Cake hope you are having a lovely day.

I haven’t been terribly strict this week, DH (asthmatic) and the dog have colds and I feel a little under the weather too. Confident it can’t be covid as we don’t go anywhere and are surrounded by fields. Haven’t weighed.

Hope everyone is ok.
