HELLO & WELCOME! This thread is for those of us who enjoy healthy eating, exercising and feeling motivated to reach (or maintain) a healthy weight/bmi. The founding members of these threads are inspirational and supportive in equal measure. I’m sure @SunshineCake & @halfshrunkmoretogo won’t mind me using them as Poster Girls.

They have both demonstrated that if we eat right, get outside & move more your mental health will heap the rewards. Better mental health = better choices. It becomes a self fulfilling prophecy.

Me personally? In the main it’s been a way of life for 3 years and I’ve lost over 40lbs. I calorie count, log via MFP app, Intermittent fast, eat-low carb Mediterranean style aka Fast800 Plan and try to stay well hydrated. Due to pain medications I gained in January; however since I’ve stopped them (for now) I’m losing about a 1lb every couple of days (water weight). My goal for February is to see a firm loss of 4lbs.

There are so many enjoyable lifestyle options out there without the need to resort to extreme measures. Whatever way you choose, it needs to be enjoyable & sustainable for the long term. This is a long term commitment rather than a quick fix. I rarely drink alcohol and keep sugar to a minimum. I exercise by doing walking vids & strength sessions with light weighs.

As no one size fits all members need to follow their own way of eating. Nonetheless this thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

There is no shaming, competition or harsh words to be found on these threads. We are in this together.

Thank you @Foreverlexicon. I'll read again later once I have peace to understand it.

Thank you for my birthday wishes.

Mixed day.

Card from woman who gave birth to me Angry.
DD has left the country without permission or our knowledge AngrySad. Feel like I'm heading for a nervous breakdown.
DS2 had a great school report.

Sigh.

132orbust · 12/02/2021 17:52

Sorry to hear that @SunshineCake, I hope you're OK! 💕

We've had a "cheat" day in this house today, Friday night takeaway and the last of the Christmas chocolates are officially polished off.
Back On It tomorrow 10 million percent. I need to see those scales move come weigh day on Wednesday.

Happy Weekend Folks!!

Puffalicious · 13/02/2021 13:41

Hmm...fallen off the wagon past, few days. I blame the snow and down to -8 temps. I just couldn't not eat the sourdough and butter (with my virtuous soup) or the ginger cake with lovely tea.Blush

Back on it today. The snow is falling again but have rediscovered hot blackcurrant cordial!

Pepper54 · 13/02/2021 16:01

Not doing great here either Puffalicious, it is very cold. I haven’t posted my meals as they are carb heavy and not on plan. Having a horrible excema flare up, worst one in decades! But just found a big tub of lotion for dermatitis in the cupboard (we are a very allergic family Grin) and I think its helping, fingers crossed. I think I will have regained the 4 lbs I lost at this point but not giving up.

SunshineCake are you ok? How old is DD?

Puffalicious · 13/02/2021 16:47

Pepper54 you're not giving up, we've got this! If you've gained the 4lbs, pah, so what? We'll be here to help lose it again. If you're craving carbs, you're craving carbs, it's the weather, I'm telling you. Just count the carbs and cut down on other things.

Stay cosy and focus on you feeling positive.

Puffalicious · 13/02/2021 16:52

Oh, and your poor skin. Cold and central heating will be causing havoc for it. I hope the lotion helps.Flowers.

SunshineCake how are you?

Pepper54 · 13/02/2021 17:20

Thanks Puffalicious, I think you are bang on re carbs and my skin and central heating.

For anyone with excema/dermatitis - I tried hydrocortisone cream which usually works and it didn’t at all, sesame oil did nothing, then I found Dermol 500 lotion (it was on prescription) from 3 years ago and it’s working brilliantly. I could cry with relief!

SunshineCake · 13/02/2021 18:52

Hi

I'm having the weekend off, kind of, as in not worrying to much about eating, fasting tonight if I can, and have a Baileys.

Not really okay.

Not heard from dd. She's 17.

ndo4000 · 13/02/2021 20:40

Joining this thread tonight having got dressed up for a valentines meals and realised I don't fit into my 'posh' clothes very well.

Am 40, 3 children and I like crisps and wine too much and am sitting down waaaaaaay too much.

Thought I would try MFP - I have 7kg to lose.

Would love to know.... Is the paid for MFP worth it? Does it offer any extras which you can't manage without?

Puffalicious · 13/02/2021 21:54

Yup, Pepper54 stay positive. The Dermal 500 sounds the biz, will keep it in mind.

SunshineCake you're going through a tough time. Be easy on yourself. Sending good vibes your hear from DD. They all rebel at one point. Stay positive.

132orbust · 14/02/2021 10:53

Valentines breakfast so forgot to weigh in beforehand and don't fancy weighing in now! I also had wine crips and pasta carbonara last night though lots of walks too.....
Due to have a lovely Valentines dinner later too (just the four of us!).
DD1 and DD2 have always been part of it too since they were 6 and 9 and insisted we should love them too. Wow typing this I have just realised it's a decade as they are now 16 and 19.
I expect the scales to be up a bit tomorrow morning but I will get on it again next week.
Cannot believe it is Ash Wednesday in three days so Lenten sacrifice fast approaching so I am having a bit of a last hurrah.

SunshineCake · 14/02/2021 17:39

I weighed this morning and I'm up 4lbs in the ten days I've not run. Have loads of birthday food left and haven't even gone mad so disappointed I'm up so much while not going as crazy as I could have done. Dh cooking M&S valentines food and then I'll see about starting running again tomorrow. Dh bought me new trainers but I'll save them for once the snow and mud is all gone.

CommanderBurnham · 15/02/2021 09:12

Good morning. Glad people have enjoyed Valentine's Day. I am on day5 of fast 800 and I'm feeling it today. Just need to push through the hunger.

To PP who asked about mfp, I've never really needed premium so see how you go. If there's a some other function you need then post it up as there are other apps that you could use. A friend recommended happyscale to me which breaks down your weight loss into mini goals and has a cool dashboard too. It's a bit of a faff but if you like that kind of thing and are weighing often then it's really good and maps out your weight loss journey for you.
It's quite motivating as it's telling me that I'll hit goal in 11 weeks which is spurring me on. How accurate it is i don't know.

CescaNicole · 15/02/2021 22:23

Hope you're OK @SunshineCake

Pretty good weekend here, we don't celebrate Valentines day but I did have a few cheeky snacks yesterday! MIL doorstep delivered some home made cookies and chocolate orange 😋

Today has been good, did a 25 minute cardio workout this morning.

Breakfast: Overnight Oats with blackberries
Lunch: Sushi
Dinner: Salmon, Broccoli, v small amount of new potatoes and some sweet chilli relish.

Pancake day tomorrow though 😬

SunshineCake · 16/02/2021 08:02

I'm really not OK.

Nothing from DD, as expected. Dh and I have decided not to message her or her boyfriend again. No idea when, or if, she's coming home.

Have other stuff going on and I am trying really hard to stay strong.

Walking with a friend today. Running tomorrow.

Just feel like running away tbh.

Hope everyone else is doing well.

CommanderBurnham · 16/02/2021 13:07

So sorry @SunshineCake. I hope she contacts you soon and is safe. I think for you just be kind to yourself and do what it takes to get you through.

SunshineCake · 16/02/2021 16:11

Thank you @CommanderBurnham. I'm assuming she's with the boyfriend and so is safe in that regard. No idea what he's doing about social distancing. Not impressed with either of them. Do not know what to do with her when she does come home.

CescaNicole · 16/02/2021 19:55

Oh goodness @SunshineCake that does sound so stressful. Sending you virtual hugs!!!

SunshineCake · 16/02/2021 22:05

Thank you @CescaNicole. I just want her home. I'm assuming Sunday will be the latest she'll be home. Not sure what I'll do if she's not.

Drybird2020 · 17/02/2021 06:29

Hello everyone, its been so long since I posted, the thread dropped off my TIO.
Still no movement below 11st, but today is the first day of Lent, and I am quitting sugar, so I hope that will help. The snow stopped me getting out for runs for a week, but I'm doing that again now too.
Anyone else making Lent a weight loss focus?

CescaNicole · 17/02/2021 07:22

Wednesday Weigh In

10 st 5 Lb, so a 1 Lb loss this week.
FINALLY some movement on the scales after maintaining for 3 weeks straight.

SW: 12 St 1 Lb (Oct 20)
CW: 10 St 5 Lb
GW: 9 St 7 Lb

Also my scales tell me my body fat percentage and my metabolic age (5 years older than I am 🤪, started at 8 years older) are the lowest they have been ever, since I started using these scales 7 weeks ago. So very pleased with that!!
I have had a few bad diet days this week but have been exercising lots!!

Need to reign the diet in and keep with the exercise for last 11 days of Feb. Let's go!

Hope you're all doing OK 💕

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 17/02/2021 07:45

Oh it's all going wrong , it's half term and we have been eating and eating and eating, not helped at all by pancake day yesterday 😂

DDs wish list for today is to make a layer cake with strawberry jam, buttercream and decorated to look like a puppy.

Put on 2lb this week so going backwards which is a bit depressing, going to try to convince DD to come out for a bit of a jog/walk with me this morning.

On a more positive note, ordered a dress and pair of crop trousers to give me some warmer weather options when I saw sunshine on the forecast and realised I only had joggers and hoodies. Got size 16 dress with no stretch from Next with some apprehension thinking it might not fit and it bloody well does! Considering my summer clothes last year were size 22 it feels very nice to be buying a size 16 this year.

132orbust · 17/02/2021 09:16

@SunshineCake really sorry for all the stress you are dealing with at the moment. How did she manage to get out of the country in the middle of a pandemic?
@HalfShrunkMoreToGo that is quite an achievement to have lost 3 sizes. You should be very proud of yourself.
Day 44
SW:151
CW:140.75
GW:132
No change from Saturday though I think it has probably gone up a bit and then down again.
10.25lbs in 44 days.
First day of Lent - onwards and inwards.
It would be amazing if I could be at goal on Easter Sunday but I will aim for 14lbs off and hope for the best.
