We’re a very friendly, supportive group, and all at different stages, but we’re all seeing some real changes in ourselves and our attitudes to food. It’s a long old road, but it helps to chat along the way

Collectively, we’ve lost an incredible…......... 🌟 1205.75lbs 🌟 since the start of the first thread in Dec 16, which is amazing!

We tend to weigh in on Fridays or Saturdays, but feel free to join in at any time, with whatever weight loss method you think works best for you. Some of us have lost more than others, but we're all in this together, so if you're losing, gaining or staying the same, it's nice to have some inspiration to keep going.

We’re always welcoming to newcomers, but as with the previous thread(s), I’ll add one caveat - we’re all here because we are trying to lose a LOT of weight. If you’re looking to lose the last half stone, or even two or three stone, this might not be the thread for you. Good luck with your goals, but you may find more support with in threads with people who have similar goals to you.

Honey thank you for box and tone! I just did the jab section with pads and I love it! It’s perfect for what I wanted

RED January is a charity challenge in support of MIND, the mental health charity.

RED originally meant "Run Every Day" in January. But it has changed this year to be more inclusive. So the charity are suggesting a walk, swim, gym session, or whatever, not necessarily running. Just that at some point each day, every day in January you do some form of exercise. It doesn't have to be a lot of exercise, whatever your level is.

The ultimate idea is to tie exercise with mental health - so that by exercising every day you are not only doing your body some good, that it's also good for your mental health.

It's a bit like Dry January, but for exercising.

fezzesarecool · 04/01/2019 14:20

FATEdestiny Definitely agree with the mental health and exercise aspect behind RED January.

I started my journey with exercise and it knocked onto my diet. I always find that if I exercise it makes me mindful of what I eat so it’s always the key to my mojo.

The other part is I find it makes me feel more positive and upbeat too in general and fantastic for stress relief (especially now I’ve discovered boxing 😂)

WitchDancer · 04/01/2019 14:54

Thank you for the explanation

HoneysuckIejasmine · 04/01/2019 21:57

Fezzes glad you enjoyed it!

Quandary2018 · 05/01/2019 08:44

So post xmas/new year weigh in was better than I anticipated- a gain of 3lbs- given that when I had a sneaky look on Wednesday it was a gain of 7lbs I’ll take the 3!!

The last 2 weeks I’ve been completely off food and exercise wise and whereas a gain in the past would’ve meant I quit and kept on gaining I know that I can shift that gain plus a bit more over the next 2 weeks and that’s what I’m going to do!

No more cheese- I totally blame the cheese 😂

HoneysuckIejasmine · 05/01/2019 10:05

Well done Quandary, that's absolutely the right attitude. We can think that "normal people" never indulge and gain weight, but of course they do. They just reign it in and lose it again. And so will you!

Loss this week: 0.75lbs
Lost to date: 84.75lbs
To lose: 28lbs

I'm 0.5lbs above my lowest pre Christmas weight. However at the start of the week I was looking at a 4lb Betwixmas gain, so I've been working hard to pull it back. Really pleased!

Jes11 · 05/01/2019 18:49

Thank you everybody for such a warm welcome. I have tried this week food wise but have enjoyed a lazy week off school. As my son has both Asperger's and Epilepsy life gets more stressful during term times. As his fits are caused by tiredness. I volunteer in school to keep both my mind and body active. I will be weighing in Saturday morning. I weighed in this morning at 21st 3lb. So I have lost 2lbs since Tuesday. I am happy with that.

fezzesarecool · 05/01/2019 19:36

Well done losers! Great start to the New Year.

I’ve maintained so 187lbs and I’ll do a proper weight in next week and hopefully everything will kick in. Really hoping the maintenance break will help give me and boast and hopefully will stop my metabolism from crapping out.

HoneysuckIejasmine · 05/01/2019 23:57

Excellent job Fezzes and Jes!

moonlight1705 · 06/01/2019 08:32

I don't know why I'm posting this on here but suspect its going to really mess up my whole weight thing.

My lovely mum died last night and I'm sitting here in shock and can't stop crying. She was poorly but not to this extent, stupid pneumonia took her in the end and it was quick. At least we were by her side for the whole day.

She was overweight too which didn't help her prognosis so maybe this will give me a kick in action once baby is born.

AnotherOtter · 06/01/2019 09:00

Oh moonlight, I am so very sorry for your loss Thanks Big unmumnetty hugs. Of course you are in shock, I just can't imagine what a massive trauma you have gone through and are still going through. You absolutely should post on here about this, if you want to. This is a support thread while we change our lives and everything is relevant. I'm glad you found a little comfort is being there with your Mum at the end and saying goodbye. There will be lots of arrangements to make now and I hope you can find a little comfort there too. You take care of yourself Thanks

WitchDancer · 06/01/2019 09:02

Sorry for your loss Moonlight, May she rest in peace.

fezzesarecool · 06/01/2019 09:12

moonlight1705 Very sorry for your loss, I can only echo what Otter said. Post whatever you need too we are here xx

moonlight1705 · 06/01/2019 09:45

Thank you all, its nice to be able to chat with someone other than my poor DH who is also devastated (but a complete rock for me).

fezzesarecool · 06/01/2019 09:54

moonlight1705 Good you dh is supportive and you have each other through this

MagicKeysToAsda · 06/01/2019 10:06

Oh Moonlight, you poor lovely, I am so very sorry to read that. What a huge shock, and a deep loss. Try to be very very gentle with yourself, this is such an incredibly difficult and painful time ThanksThanks

Quandary2018 · 06/01/2019 19:33

So very sorry for your loss moonlight. Totally agree with what otter said, take care of yourself Flowers

coffeeandrainbows · 07/01/2019 01:38

I’m so sorry for your loss moonlight I echo everyone else to be kind and gentle to yourself, especially for your precious little baby on the way Flowers

HoneysuckIejasmine · 07/01/2019 09:13

Oh Moonlight, I'm sorry. What an awful thing to happen. My grandmother died when my mother was pregnant with my older sister, but we still know all about her. Look after yourself, make sure you let your midwife know.

AnotherOtter · 07/01/2019 15:32

How are you today, moonlight? Thinking of you Thanks

I did my weekly weigh in a day late as a bit scatty at the moment!

Loss this week: 1.6lbs
Total loss: 108.2lbs

Still not on top of my mood hence my result. I'm finding the change to maintenance much, much harder than I thought. Physically and psychologically. I should have taken Post's advice and practiced maintenance weeks more while I was losing!

moonlight1705 · 07/01/2019 17:50

Hi all - thanks for your lovely words, it has really helped to know that other people are thinking of me.

I've had a busy day, trying to sort out bits and pieces and then a couple of friends came around this afternoon to cheer me up a bit before DH got home from work. Luckily baby is fine and kicking hard still but have found out the maternity services take bereavement very seriously just in case it turns to PND so have had lots of contact with them.

How are you all doing this week? Getting in those walking miles?

coffeeandrainbows · 07/01/2019 19:38

That’s good you’ve got lots of support from the maternity services moonlight that postpartum period is a mess of hormones at the best of times so I can only imagine that a loss would be very easy to escalate into PND. I hope you are just taking things a day at a time and asking for any help you need.

Well done on the loss Otter are you still focusing on losing or or is it maintenance from now on for you? I imagine that just as getting into the right headspace to start losing a large amount of weight, changing to a maintenance headspace will have its own challenges, maybe more unexpected because I always think that when I reach my goal it will be so much easier so to have to struggle would be unsettling. Hope this week goes better for you.

I was up just under 2lbs over Christmas and weighed in back at my pre-holiday weight which I’m very happy about. I had chocolate and treats and large portions at times but I didn’t go crazy and overeat until I felt sick which I have done previously. I also noticed just how awful I felt having lots of sugar and carbs - very bloated and tired. It made it much easier to give up the treats again after the holiday. It felt like a very sensible and sustainable so I’m really happy with everything.

Hope everyone’s having a good week!

Lost this week - 2 lbs
Total Lost - 6 lbs
To Lose - 96 lbs

sneezeandclench · 09/01/2019 02:43

Hi there, I posted back in November that I was going to lose weight and then it all went wrong and I managed to put on 10lb instead. I got very ill and ended up being rushed into hospital last week where I was diagnosed with double pneumonia and congestive heart failure.

Apart from feeling so sick, I saw what a massive inconvenience I was being the size I am. I had to have a special bariatric chair, bed and wheelchair. I needed 3 nursing staff to help me get into and out of bed so spent most of the time I was in hospital sitting in a chair. I begged and begged to come home even though I needed to stay in and eventually the consultant let me come back home. The whole thing was very traumatising to me and my family and I can't believe how close I came to not being here anymore.

Having had such a close call my motivation for change is high and I have spent the last few days eating very sensibly. Even after all what went on last week I am still tempted to eat crap. I have thrown away all the Christmas leftovers of chocolates and cakes etc. My kids are all old enough if they want to eat rubbish they can get themselves to a shop and buy their own.

Because of my heart failure I need to weigh myself every day but I have decided to only record it officially once a week on a Friday. I am still signed up with Nutracheck so I write down everything that I eat and drink. This year I will make changes that will benefit me and my family, I know the odds are against me but I do like a challenge.

moonlight I hesitated to write because of your terrible loss but I hope you will understand. I am so sorry that your mum didn't make it.

moonlight1705 · 09/01/2019 07:35

sneeze don't worry at all, I'm glad this has given you a wake up call for your health. Its something that suddenly hit me that this year I have to lose the weight otherwise by the time I'm in my 60s then I will need all that assistance.

How are you feeling now? You must be feeling weak but it can go up from here on (except the weight, that will go down Smile ).
