We’re a very friendly, supportive group, and all at different stages, but we’re all seeing some real changes in ourselves and our attitudes to food. It’s a long old road, but it helps to chat along the way

Collectively, we’ve lost an incredible…......... 🌟 1205.75lbs 🌟 since the start of the first thread in Dec 16, which is amazing!

We tend to weigh in on Fridays or Saturdays, but feel free to join in at any time, with whatever weight loss method you think works best for you. Some of us have lost more than others, but we're all in this together, so if you're losing, gaining or staying the same, it's nice to have some inspiration to keep going.

We’re always welcoming to newcomers, but as with the previous thread(s), I’ll add one caveat - we’re all here because we are trying to lose a LOT of weight. If you’re looking to lose the last half stone, or even two or three stone, this might not be the thread for you. Good luck with your goals, but you may find more support with in threads with people who have similar goals to you.

My eating has been atrocious since Sunday and boy am I paying for it, my digestive tract is not at all happy with far too much cheese and chocolate- I feel revolting

Still, back on it today apart from a fair few heroes this evening, no idea why I ate them other than because they were there.
Am in damage control for the next 2 days although I doubt it will have made much difference.
Got a fit bit for Christmas and have been wearing it since Boxing Day- apparently by 9am this morning I’d walked a total of 42km since I started wearing it- not too shabby given that I lay on the sofa most of Monday and yesterday!

Welcome all new koko ers you’ve made the first step to changing your life!

WitchDancer · 02/01/2019 20:41

Thank you for your kind welcome.

HoneysuckIejasmine · 02/01/2019 21:54

Fezzes if you're in to boxing then you'll like the new Davina DVD! It's all boxing stuff and hard work!

fezzesarecool · 02/01/2019 22:06

WitchDancer Welcome! Ignore honey 😂 Feel free to jump in on our walking challenge. You could do say 28 miles this month.

So a mile a day? At home, a real walk or steps Only if you fancy giving it a go

m.youtube.com/watch?v=KCe3ZS7pAC4

Honey I tried doing a walking YouTube and instead of doing the kick moves etc I did the boxing Oh said he was scared holding the pads 😂 What’s the name of your dvd? I will google it

I’ve been doing Boot Camp during my AWOL (just than no actual calorie counting or daily exercise) Anyway he does boxing in it and I love that part so much I got myself some gloves and pads I’m very interested in learning actual combinations

HoneysuckIejasmine · 02/01/2019 22:17

It's Davina's "Power box and tone" so boxing based movements as an aerobics routine. There's 6 or 7 different segments and you do as many as you want. There's a very detailed view on Amazon for more info.

fezzesarecool · 02/01/2019 22:21

HoneysuckIejasmine Thank you

WitchDancer · 02/01/2019 22:24

Hah Fezzes, you're having a laugh! I struggle to get to the loo and back unfortunately. My body is seriously not up to that - I'm going to try and make my own cup of tea though, which is my equivalent of a mile walk

fezzesarecool · 02/01/2019 22:32

WitchDancer Every little adds up, enjoy your tea 😉

Honey it’s looks fantastic I might see if it’s on iTunes and download a section to do with the pads rather than my made up thing Plus with the section only being 8 to 10 minutes I won’t feel bad getting oh to stand there for me

AnotherOtter · 03/01/2019 08:42

Fezzes, well done for exercising to bring in the new year. What a good start!

Welcome lolly. You've made an excellent plan, very thorough.

Welcome Jes, well done for starting. Here's to taking back control. Hope your offline stresses settle down soon Thanks

I echo fezzes welcome to lurkers Smile I lurked for a good couple of months before I started posting in (I think) autumn 2017 though I started trying to lose weight well before that. Jump in, lurkers. Support will help on what will be a tough path at times.

Grin honey at your "who are we?!" with all this exercise. My family are still in a state of shock over my running!

Welcome WitchDancer. Sorry to hear of your health conditions but like other posters are saying diet is much, much more important than exercise when it comes to losing weight. Be realistic with your expectations of your rate of loss though and don't compare yourself to others (I am terrible for that!).

Not much news with me. Still eating at roughly what the various online calculators say should be my maintenance level of calories. Still logging my food on MFP. Been trying new foods including treats. Bought a big bar of chocolate and have eaten it in portions not all in a oner. Going to try some baking. Still walking or running every day and getting >15k steps. Things ticking over pretty nicely really. Long may it last. KOKO everyone.

JustKeepSwimmingJustKeepSwimmi · 03/01/2019 11:50

Wow busy thread! Thanks for the welcome.

Im 5ft 6 and 18st 9. Ive been trying on and off to lose weight since I was 13 stone and Im shocked at how much I weigh.

Something in the news today said once youre obese its almosy impossible to lose . I really feel hopeless a lot as I hate how my life and body has become. When my girls staryed school i planned to get fitter....and gained 6 stone :( Its not for want of trying.

I so hope this year can be different but I kmow I posted on similar threads Jan last year....

As for what to do. I kmow actual "diets" have made things worse for me but Ive gone too far the ither way. I was actively "not dieting" but now just eating conveneince food.

I feel Id like to eat more real food. And healthy food. But tie myself up in knots both not knowing what health (or normal for that matter) looks like and also mot wanting to obsess...I feel ive lost the plot planninga and eating re food seems overwhelming and I dont want to rush into a diet but dont even know what I want to eat if that makes any sense. Id like to eat healthily.... (but does that mean jacket potaties and rice and veg and protein or is that too carby? Is pastry okay? Am i eating too much beige food...)

My brain spins a bit.

I have started the yoga with Adrienne. Id like to swim again and mayve do gentle aqua aerobics. It all helps doesnt it. When i start anything I easily get very overwhelmed by how bad its got and how unfit my body is.

fezzesarecool · 03/01/2019 12:01

JustKeepSwimmingJustKeepSwimmi Welcome! And it’s not impossible to lose It’s just hard mentally and physically and takes commitment. But you are in the right place!

It’s definitely information overload and we are all still learning as we go and trying out new things.

My advice would be don’t get overwhelmed and start off small.

For example try using my fitness pal to track your food. I aimed for using it to get my portions in control and then lowered the calories as I went along. Then as my food isn’t was shit I’m now working on getting a healthier diet.

Everyone on here is doing different things like slimming world, ww, low carbs high protein etc. I’m sure they will be along to offer advice if one of these approaches appeals to you.

For me I love carbs so Im definitely not a low carb person although I do have that in control now. If I had gone on to sliming world I wouldn’t have gone more than a week. I like mfp as it’s just calorie counting so if I want a takeaway or chocolate it’s fine and not cheating as long as it’s within my allowance.

The thing is that we’re being successful doing the different approaches. The key is what will work for your lifestyle, likes and what you realistically think you can stick to and keep as a lifestyle change.

HoneysuckIejasmine · 03/01/2019 14:29

3/1 THURSDAY jambalaya diced onions and peppers

4/1 FRIDAY coconut Dahl and cauliflower - buy cauliflower

For breakfast I usually have porridge - 40g oats made with water on the hob, poured over a mashed banana and 15g peanut butter. Or a bacon sandwich (in a pitta bread is a good lower calorie swap), today I had homemade hash browns (grated potato and onion, squeezed and baked) with baked beans. I made the hash brown last night and just reheated in microwave today.

Lunch in winter is usually soup, which I batch cook with whatever veg I can find in the fridge and cupboards. Carrot sticks, houmous, crisps, fruit etc. Or leftovers (I had veg curry and tarka daal today). In summer I make salads with plenty of protein in - meat or beans or nuts.

I do low calorie swaps, so low fat mince, lighter versions of things, high volume low calorie snacks like popcorn.

FYI I don't eat dairy, egg, soya or beef which is why you won't see those included. Helpful with cutting calories as a byproduct too!

HoneysuckIejasmine · 03/01/2019 14:34

Oh, and I cook pretty much from scratch every day - I'll use a ready made curry paste or sweet and sour sauce occasionally but otherwise it's from scratch.

I have done just shy of 12,000 steps today. Walked to the park for a play date, went to shops on way home. 35 mins there, longer back. Was really hammering the pace on the way there, thought I might be late 😂 9 min/km at one point!

ResolutionCrew · 03/01/2019 14:58

fezzesarecool · 03/01/2019 16:03

ResolutionCrew You might have more luck posting a thread under the SW topic

fezzesarecool · 03/01/2019 20:50

Back from Boot Camp, feel like I was going to die but I finished and am lifting heavier weights so NSV

moonlight1705 · 04/01/2019 09:38

Well done on all those steps honey and your bootcamp fezze - what weights are you up to now?

I think for me, I need to up my step count on a daily basis. Most days at the office then I am averaging only 3,000 but I've got hopes that maternity leave might give me the push to take the pram out walking to town. I did 12,000 steps last Saturday and was exhausted for the rest of the weekend.

FATEdestiny · 04/01/2019 09:56

Well I think I've turned the corner now. Total gain over Christmas and New Year was 10lb, but already lost 3lb in the 3 days since I went back to normal eating.

I like the fact that "normal eating" for me is healthy and low calorie whereas unusual eating for me is calorific crap. It used to be the opposite way around.

I'm doing RED January. The aim is to do some form of exercise (No matter how small) every day in January. I'm running every day. Is anyone else giving it a try?

fezzesarecool · 04/01/2019 10:05

Can’t believe that you’re due maternity soon! It seems like it’s gone so quick and on top of growing another person you’ve done so well watching your weight

I’m up to lifting 2.5kg/5lbs on the dumbbells at home At boot camp as there were only 2 of us he saw we did the heaviest weights (power bag, medicine ball and kettlebell) so he take the others away 😫 Although I cheated and stuck to the medium kettlebell.

I think the power bag and medicine ball is 15kg/22lbs. Not sure about the kettlebell.

So we normally do 3 circuits doing the weights, upper and lower body, strength and cardio. Honestly it’s hard but I love it and it really challenges me out of my comfort zone and to see what I can actually do. I feel like I’m on the biggest loser 😂

The guy’s a pt as well so he’s happy to give advice and tailors it for us so that’s a massive bonus.

fezzesarecool · 04/01/2019 10:23

FATEdestiny Can we count the walking challenge as RED January? I wasn’t going to do it everyday but as a way of getting back into my routine so for example yesterday I didn’t do any miles but I did boot camp

I’m looking at Saturdays as my day off and Sundays I now walk into work (1 mike and I’m on my feet for the shift) Walking the miles was a minimum of what I wanted to do on any days where I’m busy/lazy if it’s not a day off

It’s ok if it doesn’t count but I thought just a way of us all getting but on track and motivating each other

FATEdestiny · 04/01/2019 11:15

Yes you can count walking for RED January fezzesarecool. I think the idea is that you use some time every day with the sole purpose of exercise. So not the steps you use pottering around the house/office, but deciding to go for a brisk walk it then becomes exercise, if you see what I mean.

fezzesarecool · 04/01/2019 11:23

FATEdestiny Actually it’s sounds like I’m on the wrong track for RED January as I only count my exercise walking (walking with the weights and doing aerobic moves) and as much I said I didn’t do any miles yesterday I obviously was moving around in general. Where as others are counting their steps either through exercise or normal steps. Also no way can I do the same time slot everyday for exercise with my crazy life!

So I’ll bow out and stick to the walking challenge instead as the point was to get back into exercise and with the weight lifting and boot camp I need to get my muscle recovery time.

But definitely looking forward to hearing about those doing RED January and learning from everyone and however we are all doing it it’s a great fitness start to our year 😄

WitchDancer · 04/01/2019 11:48

Can I ask please, what is RED January?
