We’re a very friendly, supportive group, and all at different stages, but we’re all seeing some real changes in ourselves and our attitudes to food. It’s a long old road, but it helps to chat along the way

Collectively, we’ve lost an incredible…......... 🌟 1205.75lbs 🌟 since the start of the first thread in Dec 16, which is amazing!

We tend to weigh in on Fridays or Saturdays, but feel free to join in at any time, with whatever weight loss method you think works best for you. Some of us have lost more than others, but we're all in this together, so if you're losing, gaining or staying the same, it's nice to have some inspiration to keep going.

We’re always welcoming to newcomers, but as with the previous thread(s), I’ll add one caveat - we’re all here because we are trying to lose a LOT of weight. If you’re looking to lose the last half stone, or even two or three stone, this might not be the thread for you. Good luck with your goals, but you may find more support with in threads with people who have similar goals to you.

My motivation to stay on course

Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus... Part 6!
sneezeandclench · 09/01/2019 08:13

I am feeling a lot better today thanks for asking. I am still very tired and I need to pace myself to do anything but I am definitely on the mend.

My weight crept on year after year and I coped with it but there was definitely a tipping point when all of a sudden I couldn't get down on the floor, my health started to really be affected by getting diabetes and I could no longer manage personal care. Each of these things were still not enough of a wake up call but I will forgive myself for my arrogance and stupidity and move on with getting my health back.

HoneysuckIejasmine · 09/01/2019 09:34

Sneeze how awful, I'm so glad you're ok. I was in hospital this time last year with pneumonia and it is awful, let alone with heart failure too. Definitely use this as a motivation, but also try not to blame yourself too much - what's done is done. Let's focus on the positive. You are here and the rest of your life is ahead of you, with the potential to be much longer than it was going to be before.

My twin brother was very sporty and active. As a teenager he was overweight too and lost it in his first year of uni, went on to become very in to fitness. Unfortunately he had an accident playing rugby and is now disabled. I've always felt terribly that I have a perfectly functional (sort of) body and I was wasting it. Now I'm finally going in the right direction and becoming active and I do feel less guilty. Perhaps I will do some sponsored events in future to raise money for relevant charities.

twiceinalifetime · 09/01/2019 17:35

Hi, can I join in please? I've got about 7.5 stone to lose but tbh I would be happy (ish) even losing half that.

My weight has crept up by about a stone each year since I had to take early retirement a few years ago through illness. I don't do much exercise in terms of walking/running etc but am active in other ways. I know I need to fit some exercise into my daily routine, I have no excuse not to.

I'm getting married later this year so I'm hoping that this will be an incentive for me, but I've started so many diets over the years that I'm not convinced that this year will be any different.

I know all about calories in/calories out, fat, carbs, proteins etc and each time I start a diet I am full of enthusiasm. But I just can't stick to any diet.

How do others keep on the straight and narrow?

HoneysuckIejasmine · 09/01/2019 19:09

Hi twice, welcome. Honestly, I'm not sure why I've stuck to it this time and didn't in the past. I also was one who knew all the theory and still failed. This time I think it's been due to early success and realising that I didn't have to try that hard to get that result. When you are large like we are/we're, it does come off quickly at first. By the time I was getting a slow down I was in the habit.

I do still have binge urges but with the support of the ladies on here I can recognise them and stop myself.

By the way, take your measurements! It is hard to see the impact of initial loss in the mirror so it's good to be able to prove it.

I've written this whole message whilst jogging on the spot to get my step count up. That was unthinkable when I started. Absolutely unthinkable. And now I'm barely breathing quickly, let alone out of breath.

twiceinalifetime · 09/01/2019 19:31

Thanks Honey. Not only am I impressed that you're jogging without being out of breath, I'm also amazed that you can type a message at the same time lol.

The problem with my binge episodes is that it doesn't just stop at one meal or one day. Once I've fallen off the wagon I tend to stay on the floor for too long.

HoneysuckIejasmine · 09/01/2019 20:54

Lol well it took longer because of all the typos!

We have a saying on this thread - keep on keeping on (koko). Draw a line, no matter how long the time off the wagon, and get back on.

Frogletmamma · 10/01/2019 01:31

Been avoiding weighing myself since last year. Today perhaps

HoneysuckIejasmine · 10/01/2019 12:34

You're not any lighter because you haven't got on the scales. Either it's not as bad as you fear and wonderful, or it is, and you need to know so you can do something about it. Ignoring our weight (or purposeful ignorance of it) hasn't done us any good in the past. You can do it!

fezzesarecool · 10/01/2019 14:15

Frogletmamma I totally agree with honey, just go for it At least you’ll know where you’re starting from and not weighing yourself isn’t going to make any difference as you already know it’s not good

If it’s any help my starting weight was 19stone 9pounds and I kept avoiding the scales and it’s still hard for me to look at that number and photos of myself at that weight, but the biggest part of this journey is facing our fears and dealing with them.

FATEdestiny · 10/01/2019 16:57

My husband (who started his weight loss journey at the same time as me) refused to weigh himself initially because he didn't want to face what his weight was.

As a result, he doesn't have a figure to say how much weight he has lost. I get the eye is of being able to say "I have lost 8 stone" and know it's true. Whereas my husband thinks he's lost 6 stone. It may be more, it may be less. He didn't weight himself for the first 2 months of weight loss and so he has guessed his original weight rather than knowing it.

It's best to know your start point, I think. Then you can see your progress with absolute certainty.

HoneysuckIejasmine · 10/01/2019 17:12

I was 19st 4.75lbs when I finally faced the music. I think I had been more than that but I don't know. I'm now 13,4 and I love that I know, as fate said, how much I've lost with good accuracy.

Frogletmamma · 10/01/2019 18:06

Back to where I started. Yikes

fezzesarecool · 10/01/2019 18:37

Frogletmamma onwards and downwards!

HoneysuckIejasmine · 10/01/2019 20:12

Well done for getting on the scales, Froglet! You have done it before, you can lose it again. Go for it!

sneezeandclench · 10/01/2019 20:51

Having a bit of a moment here, had a very stressy kind of day and ended up quite weepy. I saw we had a bag of m&m's left over from Christmas and spent a good 10 minutes arguing with myself and trying to justify eating them. In the end though I gave them to one of my daughters to eat or throw away and I had an apple.

I hope it is not always going to be this hard as I still want to eat sugary crap but the memory of being in hospital is very fresh in my mind. I am looking forward to my official weigh in tomorrow, I had a sneaky peak this morning and was very happy.

I will echo everyone else and say well done for braving the scales froglet. If it helps you I was 36 stone exactly last Saturday. Tomorrow, I will weigh less.

WitchDancer · 10/01/2019 21:22

Small victories Sneeze, well done for resisting!

coffeeandrainbows · 11/01/2019 00:36

Welcome sneeze and twice! I’m also near the beginning of my journey (6 lbs down so far whoop whoop Grin) but I have to say that the keep on keeping on thing has been a huge change for me this time. Previously I have been so all or nothing that the slightest failure would have me binging for the rest of the week(s). This time however, I’ve had bad days and made some bad choices but have just been able to get right back into trying to make healthier choices by telling myself that it will take time for me to see results, to build better habits, and to find a balance but that time will be passing anyways so I may as well pass that time losing weight (however slowly) than gaining and I just KOKO. The support, stories, and advice done all the wonderful posters here has also helped me so much. It’s nice to not feel so alone in this hard journey.

I’ve been focusing on giving up sugar and processed carbs and drinking more water. The first week was really hard, especially for the sugar but it has gotten easier. I have a bit of a hangover today and had absolutely no willpower so it’s been a bit of a disaster with many bowls of sugary cereal and a Chinese takeaway but tomorrow will be back to better choices and I’m not going to let it get to me. Next time I’ll probably drink a bit less and learn from this.

I like that 4 weeks , 8 weeks, 12 weeks picture fezzes, taking this slow has been hard because I feel like after a few good days I should basically be a size 10 but I’m trying to stay motivated and just know that I’ll get there eventually.

Well done for getting on the scales froglet seeing those numbers never feels good but now you get to watch them tick down again Wink

sneezeandclench · 11/01/2019 07:37

I have lost 11lbs this week. I know the majority is water weight but I don't care, I am very happy.

starting weight - 36 stone
today's weight - 35 stone 3lb
pounds lost - 11lb

Well worth missing out on a few m&m's Grin

Makingachange2019 · 11/01/2019 07:42

Hi, can I join in please?

I started dieting on 1st Jan. I was 18st 4lbs, and I'm now 18st.

I have no idea how much I want to lose. I know I need to lose 8st ideally, but I've been overweight my whole adult life, so that just feels so unachievable! I'm trying to focus on the first 4 st.

I find exercise really hard due to various health problems, so I'm doing just calorie counting atm. I've never really dieted before, I've no idea what I'm doing but I just know I can't carry on like this 😌

HoneysuckIejasmine · 11/01/2019 12:24

Making hi, welcome! Sounds like you've made a great start already. I calorie count too - I use mfp. I've been doing it for almost a year now and I'm 6 stone down. If you are using mfp the big thing to remember is it doesn't automatically recalculate your calorie allowance as you lose weight. Every stone lost of so, just go to your goals, change your weekly target to something else then change it back again, and it'll take your current weight in to account. I think Fezzes was caught out by this intially and it made a huge difference.

Coffee that's so good to read. This group and the wisdom within has made a huge difference to me too.

Sneeze huge well done, wow!

WitchDancer · 11/01/2019 13:38

I've just braved the scales - I last weighed myself 18/12, and since then have lost 6lb. I think it's the last week that's done it as I've been so careful. I'm really rather pleased 😁

HoneysuckIejasmine · 11/01/2019 14:53

Congratulations witch, that's an excellent loss!

WitchDancer · 11/01/2019 15:29

Thank you Honey. I feel like doing a lap of the room with my t- shirt over my head. It might scare the cat/kids though 😂

FATEdestiny · 11/01/2019 15:38

3lb off for me. Still working on losing the Christmas weight gain, but going in the right direction so I'm happy.

100km of running every day in January done. Running every day isn't the challenge because it's what I normally do, but I'm aiming for 300km so averaging 10k each day is the challenge.
