It's funny... One thing I'm nervous about is that meals are such a big part of my family and social life. We look forward to a lovely meal in the evening with a glass of wine, or go out for lunches with friends etc. Do people feel bereft that food is no longer feeling important socially/for pleasure etc? I'm wondering if I'll miss it all.

I don't really get the food noise much, that others talk about. I don't think about food much unless I'm getting pretty hungry, but I do enjoy the anticipation of a nice meal. I'm just worrying that I'll miss it all and feel sad, which feels a bit silly when I'm also so excited about starting this journey.

I have been a bit worried about this too. I plan, shop for and home cook all family meals and so thinking about what food to buy/prep/eat takes up quite a bit of head space. Plus I like watching cooking shows and reading recipes & food writing. So losing interest in food or worse, feeling nauseated by it was one reason I was initially worried about starting MJ.

I inject Tuesday so I have less suppression at the weekend and that is when I plan for lovely meals - I just eat less. I have suddenly lost interest in wine but I had a glass on Saturday as an experiment and took forever to drink half in tiny sips as it just tasted weird.

I’m going out with good friends this Friday but plan to drink kombucha or tonic water as I’m driving.

From reading Reddit discussions about indifference to food, many people said after a few months their interest and appropriate hunger and anticipation/enjoyment returned - just for smaller portions and healthier plates.

Fingers crossed!

Thank you for replying! That's so helpful. I'm going to inject on Monday evenings, so yes, hopefully weekends can be a bit more relaxed.

By the way, I've just had an email from Oxford online pharmacy, to say that although they can't yet confirm the price increases, they are predicting the increase will be between 30 and 70%. Just in case that information helps anyone.

Weightlosstimeforgood · 19/08/2025 08:09

Jab day weigh in
-1lb
i think I could have done more but I have been having the odd sweet treat this week.
I’ve also had Greggs twice and a world buffet where I had 2 plates and a desert!

@Somethingsnapped @Pumpernickelbrakes I keep thinking the feeling about food is similar to how I feel in early pregnancy.
ive gone off tea altogether, I don’t just wolf things down as I normally would. I am slower and more cautious with food but I do enjoy food and I was excited for meals etc (see above!! I very much enjoyed my Greggs and buffet!), just not in my usual ravenous way when I’m grabbing handfuls of crisps as I’m cooking etc
IME so far the mindless eating noise has gone but I’m still enjoying and feel ready for meals

how do you feel so far @Somethingsnapped ?

Pumpernickelbrakes · 19/08/2025 16:00

@Weightlosstimeforgood down is good and slow and steady is good for sure.
it is indeed like early pregnancy. I bought some cooked salmon and roast veg for dinner yesterday and couldn’t face it. I ended up having a banana and some almonds for dinner. Started craving green tea. Repelled by cold beer. Bread tastes too sweet and the texture is annoying. Cheese - which I love normally - is about as appetising as eating a slice of cold margarine.

Cliffedge25 · 19/08/2025 22:13

Struggling to get 1000cals in.
Not hungry AT ALL.
Don’t fancy anything, full on very little.

What I am eating is nutrient & fibre rich. Really good quality, low ultra processed, low fat foods.

Feel a lot less bloated certainly, feel lighter but scales not shifting at all.

Lovinglifeand · 20/08/2025 10:44

Good morning! Had my second weigh in and have lost another 3.5lbs. My appetite has been increasing the last couple of days so hopefully that will decrease now I've had my third injection. Hope everyone else is ok

Somethingsnapped · 20/08/2025 16:10

@Weightlosstimeforgood thank you for asking... I feel great today (day 2)! I had some nausea at first, but it's mostly gone now, with the odd very minor wave here and there. I feel really positive. I'm not getting any hunger at all really, except a tiny bit as I get closer to the evening meal.

I'm not counting calories or anything, just aiming to avoid carbs, and eat 3 small meals a day of protein and fibre. Which so far is going well! But the small amounts I am eating, I am still enjoying. I am having to push myself to eat breakfast in the morning, as before this, I did intermittent fasting for 2 years. But I don't think I'll be able to get enough food/calories with only 2 meals a day, and so I'm aiming for 3 meals, as everyone seems to recommend.

Sorry, posted too soon, and editing wasn't working. I only wanted to say well done!

Honkeydonkey · 21/08/2025 15:18

2lbs down for first week. I don't know if I'm pleased, relieved or disappointed. Anyway, it's a loss

Cliffedge25 · 22/08/2025 18:04

How’s everyone doing??

Soooo, week 2 done. Just had 3rd jag.

Weigh in week 2.. 7lbs down.

This is monumental. It’s my first significant weight loss in over 7 years.

Absolutely nothing at all has ever worked.

I am beyond happy. I have hope at last!

How are you all getting on?

I'm so pleased to hear that @Cliffedge25 . At last it is working for you 👏

Weightlosstimeforgood · 24/08/2025 09:16

Well done @Cliffedge25

i was up 3lbs on Friday and today I’m down 4!
so another one pound from my last week weigh in.
so I guess it was water retention on Friday.
i have lost one pound a week for past 2 weeks- slow and steady wins the race…

First dose this morning. Bit of a headache and watery feeling in my mouth-maybe overthinking!
I am not going to weigh myself for a few weeks. I will know if I am loosing weight. I have a calorie counter app (Nutri Check). I intend to eat sensibly , healthily and no more than 1400 calories.

Well done! Slow and steady is great. Anyway, your stating weight is not very high, so losses are bound to be slower. I think things tend to slow down once you get nearer your goal weight, don't they.

I've completed my first week, and feel great! I haven't weighed myself yet, tomorrow is weigh day. My tummy feels significantly flatter/less bloated though.

Well done @Cliffedge25, that's a great result! You must feel fab.

Flyingfruit · 25/08/2025 20:59

I'm taking my first dose on Weds morning, could I join your group for some support?

good luck for your first dose.

Very first weigh-in this morning, and I've lost nearly 6 pounds! So I'm very happy. I know it's quite common to have a big loss in the first week amd then it slows down, but it's lovely to have a boost. I was away on holiday for a couple of days during that time too, so I'm very pleased.

Hope everyone else is getting on well!

Lovinglifeand · 27/08/2025 09:59

Went to get my second pen from the pharmacy yesterday (a week early but wanted to avoid the price increase) and the pharmacist was insisting that I went up to a 5mg pen even though I wanted another 2.5mg. Apparently no-one has ever asked for that in their pharmacy before and the general advice is 2.5mg is just a starter dose to get you used to the drug and 5mg is when the magic happens. I insisted on the 2.5mg as I have such a long journey ahead and don't want to rush through the process. I am still getting suppression so why take the chance of having the side effect increase with the 5mg. Hope I don't regret this decision. How is everyone else doing? Is everyone else going straight up to the 5mg next pen?

SW 28 st 7.5lbs
CW 27st 2lbs

Loss:
wk1 -11.5lbs
wk2 - 2.5lbs
wk3 - 4lbs

Somethingsnapped · 27/08/2025 11:48

@Lovinglifeand Well done! That's a great start.

I plan to stick to 2.5 too. I've also seen plenty of other people on MN who have done very well on it for a long time! I'm only on week 2, but even if I feel it's wearing off by the time I order, I also feel I might do OK with a healthy bit of placebo effect! I definitely got my appetite back on days 5,6 and 7 last week, but I was able to continue with the small meals and no snacking. I plan to order 2.5 for my second jab, and see how I get on.

Weightlosstimeforgood · 27/08/2025 12:56

I’m ordering the starter dose of wegovy again for my second pen.
why go up if it’s working for you, I guess some people don’t get any suppression on the starter dose etc

OP posts:
Cliffedge25 · 27/08/2025 18:20

Yes good point weightloss I’ve reordered the 2.5 as these first 3 weeks have been sufficient for me. It’s all a “suck it and see” situation for me.

Clothing definitely feel more comfortable and I feel lighter somehow. Weigh day isn’t until Friday but I’d be surprised if I haven’t shed a bit more.

I have a question though.
Navigating eating out or social eating, what approach do you all take?
What choices do you make with how you feel about eating and food?

Thanks xxx

SerafinasGoose · 27/08/2025 19:48

Mine just arrived today (Wegovy). Decided that I'll take my first dose on Friday evening, giving me the weekend recover should I experience any nasty side effects.

Could I ask what calorie counting apps people are using to track what they are eating?
