I know there are some bigger threads for August starters but if anyone starting next week wants to keep company please join me.
Starting with Juniper next week.
not going to get on the scales till the day it arrives as it will be too depressing just now.
tried for 2 years to shift weight- managed 12 weeks of no sugary treats and lost 3lbs!
im excited to see weight loss and nervous about the side effects

Week 1 weigh in
I was weighed at slimming world last night (have told the consultant that I'm on Mounjaro)
I have lost 11.5lbs! I just can't believe it, I'm so so glad that I started this. Dieting with appetite suppression is so much easier. I have such an incredibly long journey ahead of me but feel that I might actually make it this time

SW 28st 7.5lbs
CW 27st 10lbs
GW 13st

Oh my! That hats bloody fantastic! Well done, really well done!

I was thinking about this today. Probably like you Loving, I’ve done slimming world, numerous times , weight watchers, numerous times, fasting, numerous times, veganism, vegetarianism.. ypu name it, over the last 20 years I’ve done them all. But I’ve been brought down because of hunger, cravings and misery at the restrictions.

mounjaro has removed all of those, so I can do what I know I need to do in peace, without the strong hunger feelings and obsessive thoughts of food constantly in my head.,

Weightlosstimeforgood · 13/08/2025 18:52

Well don’t @Lovinglifeand you are on your way!!

I know what you mean @Cliffedge25 its also the misery that comes with being hungry all the time that is now gone! If you see my post above I actually forgot to eat this afternoon. I’m usually a constant grazer throughout the day

@GlmPmum had you appetite been suppressed last week?
well done for your loss so far!

@Somethingsnapped is it Mj you have?
im on wegovy and on 0.25 and I feel fine after first and second jag, (apart from one night of insomnia which was also the night before my period and a full moon!!), im doing good.
I think my advice would be just go for it and don’t get too nervous about side effects that you may or may not experience

Thanks @Weightlosstimeforgood

last week surprised up until 4th day and then hunger set in, day 5 and 6 starving! This week not as much suppression but when I do eat I fill up
quickly! Think my body is getting used to it now! Might have to go up 5mg on next injection!

Cliffedge25 · 13/08/2025 20:02

When do you recommend the first weigh in should be? Is it at the end of the first week, or should you leave it longer?

Daftmum47 · 14/08/2025 06:46

W2D2

I’m getting good suppression but I’m taking it very easy. Going slow. I’m trying to eat in a way that I might find sustainable once I move towards maintain mode. But it was so hot I went for an ice cream with my DC and now I regret that! It was huge!

Weightlosstimeforgood · 14/08/2025 10:34

@Cliffedge25 im weighing in on each jag day as that’s when I weighed in the initial time.

same here @Daftmum47 i still want to eat everything I normally eat so I can continue this after stopping

@GlmPmum i still like that I feel hungry and enjoy my food then once I’ve eaten I forget about food for hours, as I read on here about people not being able to manage any food and not fancying anything which sounds quite hard.

Just done my 1st jab! I'm 51 and have piled on 2 stone in 18 months, my clothes don't fit and my bras are painful! It's the biggest I've been since I was 30 so I need to get back in the game.

SW 12.8
GW 10.2

Weightlosstimeforgood · 14/08/2025 15:36

Good luck @Honkeydonkey

i had another bad night sleep last night- didn’t have a proper sleep till 4am and that was after 2 melatonin tablets!

also I’m down one more pound but not actually seeing any difference with my body yet- anyone else?

I am 5ft 2in.I have hit 17st. 63 years old and retired. I am waiting for delivery of Munjaro this afternoon. I need to get my life back on track after a very challenging few years that nearly destroyed me. I am mortified at how I have let myself go. I want to sort myself out for my sake .......
I would like to get to 10st.

Lovinglifeand · 14/08/2025 18:21

Weightlosstimeforgood · 13/08/2025 18:49

I ended up not eating for 5 hours there and had a couple of panic attacks triggered by low blood sugar- just a reminder to eat a little or have a fruit juice every few hours even if you don’t feel like it!

This is so true. I've been feeling a tiny bit anxious and heart beating faster during the night. Little and often might be the solution

GlmPmum · 15/08/2025 09:11

Well I’ve done it, lost my first half stone! If I continue like this I’ll hit my first target by mid September!

Ive ordered my second pen, wasn’t going to go up a dose but with price increase I have, also plan to reorder a 10 when I am allowed on 28th to avoid paying more for as long as I can! Wish I’d of started it sooner now in hindsight!

Cliffedge25 · 15/08/2025 10:27

1st weigh in week 1 done.

As absolutely nothing works for me I had so much hope for this.

1lb down.
Thats it. 1 lb.

Obviously, im going to do the month with a small amount of hope that the next 3 weeks will result in something worth the effort and work.

And yes, 3litres of water a day, MyFitnessPal tracking, calorie deficit, upped my movement. Healthy balanced intake… 1 solitary, single effing pound.

Due to the price hike, I am priced out of carrying on.
Does anyone know if they have all had their prices increased or is it just Mounjaro?

Try not to be disheartened, 1lb is something! How many calories are you eating now? You might not be eating enough, your body needs fuel to loose weight, body can go into what some call starvation mode which isn’t that at all, basically your body isn’t getting enough fuel so it slows down your metabolism and weight loss. Try to prioritise protein and fibre not just reduce calories .

as for price increase, I think they’ll go up at some point, money to made and they’ll make it! I think other medicine will be cheaper than MJ but still go up!

Good afternoon,
hope I can join this post :)

I started last Friday, jabbed on the evening, worked instantly for me, yesterday and today I am hungry though so can’t wait to jab again tonight.
I also do slimming world alongside it so weigh on a Wednesday. Lost 3lb in my first week so I’m chuffed to bits.

GlmPmum · 15/08/2025 15:33

Can tell am due my 3rd jab tmrw, starving and have caved in and had maccys cheeseburger meal with little lad! Doh!!!!

Weightlosstimeforgood · 16/08/2025 10:14

@Cliffedge25 it’s still a loss!
you will get there just give it more time. Your body is maybe holding onto water a bit more because you were a poorly at the beginning.

I'm with juniper and just had an email saying if you are on mj, they are offering a switch to wegovy because of the price increase on mj

Dreaded 2nd jag taken. I feel nauseous and really tired but thank goodness not a patch on last week, 1st dose.

I don’t want to eat anything. Like nothing appeals, I open the fridge then shut it again, I’m not hungry at all.

Whats weird is that I would eat whether hungry or not before but now, I really don’t want anything at all.

Im confident that this first weeks 1lb loss is an adjustment, the coming weeks will be really good and I will get going.

Cannot wait to feel better.

I really hope you have a better week this week. Have you tried protein shakes for when you can't eat anything. They are a good way of getting nutrients and filling you up enough so that you don't get nauseous from not eating.

Cliffedge25 · 17/08/2025 05:12

Thanks.
I will look up protein shakes as I have never had one so don’t know how to make them.
I’m really really not keen on milkshakes and don’t have milk in my diet at all so I know I will need to force something like this down and it will make me want to be sick. 🤢

Of all the diets I tried, veganism was one I did for 18 months, Didn’t lose a single pound but maintained without gaining weight during that time. The overhang is I can’t stomach milk any longer since then. Not even alternative milks.

You can get clear whey protein powder in various fruity flavours that you make up with water as an alternative for those who can’t stomach the milky ones. You can get big bags in B&M etc and on Amazon.

Weightlosstimeforgood · 17/08/2025 10:21

I got a vanilla protein powder on amazon and have mixed with water and milk and it’s quite nice. Also tried coffee, milk and powder and was like an ice vanilla latte. I would imagine oat or coconut milk would be nice with it too as an alternative
without the shakes there’s no way I’d be at 90g protein per day which is what the nutritionist at Juniper has said to try and do.

Brilliant! Thanks so much. These definitely sound doable.

Pumpernickelbrakes · 17/08/2025 22:54

Can I jump in? I started on Monday August 11th, so almost at the end of week 1.
The August thread is a bit huge.
First week went fine. It’s tedious logging everything but I decided to do so for the first couple of months so I could see where the problems were.

I’ve put on 65 pounds in the last 3 years (menopause, autoimmune Hashimoto's thyroid disorder, pre diabetic, high cholesterol - BMI 30.5). Yet I eat a diet of very healthy foods - I don’t snack, I don’t like sweet things, I don’t like highly processed food. I exercise.

I have in the past 3 years done WW, fasting 16/8, low carb. Always lost 20lb over about 9 months - then put it back on plus extra.

Anyway, boringly tracking has helped solve the mystery. For example my pre-August healthy breakfast of Greek yogurt and mango with nuts and seeds was about 650 calories. Boiled eggs came with two giant buttery slices of sourdough.

My lunch salads were huge. I could whizz through a whole tub of hummus.

Dinner was always home cooked - but I’d often eat the same amount as DH. With handfuls of Parmesan on top.

And then we’d split a bottle of wine four nights a week.

soooooooo not actually that surprising that I am now obese.

On MJ I am eating the same but way less. I’ve lost interest in bread, pasta and cheese crackers. And VERY STRANGELY I have lost interest in wine! Had one glass and was like meh.

Anyway, nice to meet you all and good luck with the first month!

Hello! Yes, mounjaro. Thank you for your experience, and the advice. You're right, I just have to go for it and not over think things. I'm actually going to inject this evening for the first time, before bed. Thank goodness for threads like this where there is so much support and information! I don't think I'd have gone for it in the first place without mumsnet, to be honest.
