Mounjaro April 2025 Starters

1000 replies

OpheliaABC · 26/03/2025 19:28

Anyone else starting soon/in April? I've seen there has been lots of threads for new starters for the previous months which looked helpful so I'm starting one too.

Starting weight: 98kg
Goal weight: 75kg

I will be starting either at the end of this week or early next.

I have a huge appetite, lots of cravings for junk food, and I'm hoping to get my portion sizes under control. Three members in my immediate family have now been diagnosed with diabetes and I'd rather not join them.

I'm having full blood work done in a few days to make sure I don't have deficiencies, thyroid problems or overly high blood glucose levels. Trying to give myself a full health MOT but I love my food so it won't be an easy ride. I can only hope this works for me and that my portion sizes will be halved without going hungry as I've seen happen to some people.

Welcome, if you are joining me! 😊

Hi. Just ordered my first jab so hopefully start this weekend. Hoping to lose about 30 kgs. From 90-60. I'm only 5ft so it shows. 49 and v keen to not be fat and fifty. Thing is, I genuinely don't eat terribly or lots, especially through the day, but later night snacking on savoury stuff is my downfall. It's got so much harder to lose weight as I've got older and stuff that used to work doesn't. I'm a SP to two teens, one of whom is AuADHD, had EBSA and just starting on meds.

I was going to a CrossFit place but I just can't make the space in my days for it right now and whilst it's probably good for me, it wasn't doing anything weight wise. This is my big hope. Happy to keep checking in to cheer each other on. What provider are you using?

JMSA · 26/03/2025 20:14

Oh, hi. Thanks for starting this thread - I’d be delighted to join!
I guess you could say that I’ve always had a tricky relationship with food, to put it kindly! I’m that person who’s on the plane going on holiday thinking about what the food’s going to be like. I’m the person who gets too much of their enjoyment in life from food. I’m the person who could be 4 stone heavier or lighter over the course of a year. The person who would consider a cinema visit pointless without treats Blush I find it really hard to strike a healthy balance with food and my portion sizes are INSANE. Either I’m dieting strictly or going nuts. I have a fairly obsessive, ‘all or nothing’ food personality.
I’ve always said that my food vice is the most fucked thing about me. Everything else is normal and rather lovely Grin
I was horrified when I stood on the scales on Sunday. I really had reached rock bottom. So I ordered Mounjaro and it’s due in a couple of days. I’d like to lose 6 stone and even then I won’t be skinny, but I’ll be happy with that weight.
Looking forward to it!

RhaenysRocks · 26/03/2025 20:29

I used the monj website that lists all the providers and current discount codes. I intend to swap about as needed to keep the cost down as I really don't have £100+ a month spare but my kids each have more spent on their hobbies etc per month so I feel like I need to prioritise me. Im hoping that the fact I'm investing in this will help me stay on track.

Alabamasunset · 26/03/2025 20:39

I wouldn't bother starting.
It doesn't work.😞
(I learnt this the very expensive way)

MarginalScribbling · 26/03/2025 20:39

I’ve ordered and received my first jab and have scared myself by reading the side effects leaflet. I’m 71kg, aiming for 57kg. Lifelong dieter, emotional over eater and turned 50 last year. I’d love some company on this journey, and some courage to do the first jab. I know that sounds silly.

Ok it hasn't worked for you but it has for plenty of others and noone knows until we try. Not sure we really need that input on a thread like this, thanks.

I lost 3 stone with 4 pens. Mind you, my body did not agree with the 7.5mg pen so I had to do clicks to get 3.75mg out. That pen lasted for 8 weeks. I know there is a 30 day limit, but I did not want to waste precious doses and it was absolutely fine with good suppression. With discounts, 3 stone cost me £500.

If someone had said "would you pay £500 to be 3 stone lighter, be a size 12 not size 18, improve my health and self confidence...?" I would do it in a heart beat.

My dad died of diabetes related illnesses after having a quadruple heart bypass, leg amputation and going blind. My health is my wealth.

I started in July 2024 (13st 4) and reached my goal in October (10st 8). I am now 9st 11 (5ft 6 and size 10) and have maintained (or lost 1.5lb per month since finishing MJ).

It worked for me. Good luck April starters!

Mounraine · 26/03/2025 20:59

Thank you for starting this thread. I’ve finally decided to try this. 45, 13st 4lb size 16. Pretty nervous but feeling increasingly desperate. Ordered pen tonight but won’t come until middle of next week.

RhaenysRocks · 26/03/2025 21:00

@diian that's a good way to think of it. If I add up what I've spent over the years on gym membership, boot camps, slim fast shakes, Noom subscriptions etc and am heavier than I've ever been, it's awful. I'm doing a short term one off job next month that will earn me about £800. I'm ring fencing that, or most of it, specifically for this use. Otherwise it will just disappear into the black hole of my finances. Im at the point now where I don't want to exercise because my feet hurt, I feel crap. If I can shift a decent amount I can maybe get back to swimming, walking, even running again.

Fatrosrhun · 26/03/2025 21:00

How do you decide? I’m dithering. Did you speak to your dr? I’ve just been diagnosed with high blood pressure, high cholesterol and have a high BMI, plus pre diabetic. So it’s imperative that I sort myself out. And I’m very tempted to try this.

Mounraine · 26/03/2025 21:02

@diian thank you for sharing, that’s the inspiration I needed today.
May I ask if you had any issues with loose skin? And how does your diet look nowadays?

violetmondays · 26/03/2025 21:05

I'm also starting in April. Waiting to pick up prescription but going to start around the 7th as on holiday before that and want to enjoy myself without worrying about possible side effects.

@MarginalScribbling I'm also scared! But I am 49 with high blood pressure and weight has crept up to 13.5 stone since covid so I really need to do something about it.

Mounraine · 26/03/2025 21:06

How do you decide? I’m dithering

I’ve mulled it over for months, wanting to prove I could do it without medical intervention. I just keep losing and regaining the same half a stone. I’m so fed up with being fed up. I think about food all day. The only time I don’t think about food is when I’m eating.

LongDarkTeatime · 26/03/2025 21:08

Thank you for starting this thread. I’ve received my 1st pen but not started yet. Trying to work out when to start, around my work diary, incase I get unwanted side-effects (have read about tummy issues).

Namerequired · 26/03/2025 21:12

I took my 1st dose yesterday. Very optimistic. I lost 4 stone last year (not using injectables) but put it all back on. My motivation was zero. So hoping this will build it up again.
The cost is putting me off though!

Are you me? I'm at a similar point but just ordered. I've done a fair bit of reading and research. Family history of T2 diabetes and I had gestational diabetes. My parents have had between them heart attacks, strokes, T2, high cholesterol etc. I'm determined not to go the same way and any side effects from this sound far less problematic than any of that.

I don't have loose skin apart from bingo wings... but in your mid 50s that happens to most of us!

I have always eaten healthily, just over-eaten and the weight crept on. I now eat smaller portions and rarely snack. I have cooked chicken in the fridge if I feel peckish and I eat Greek yoghurt (not Greek style) and fruit for desserts. I do 10k steps a day. Last year I upped my steps from 7k to 10k a day and this added 1.2 million extra steps!! Pod casts and walking are now part of my evening routine.

Where did you order from?

I’m 75% there. I’ve yo-yo dieted for decades (although not for a few years). I’d just like to speed up the process a bit and slow down the greed. I can usually do a few months then fall off the wagon. I’m thinking if I can get nearer goal I’ll be happier with myself if I do start falling a little and can pull myself out of it a bit.

You are incredibly lucky and I wish I was like you.
I have spent over £1,000 on the top dose pens and have persevered but have not lost weight.
Yes MJ works for a lot of people, but starters need to be aware that for a lot of people it does nothing.

RhaenysRocks · 27/03/2025 07:43

My understanding is that it's not the drug itself that melts fat off you but by appetite suppression so you eat less. Unless you do change your eating habits it won't work. Many people, including me, eat for reasons that have nothing to do with hunger or appetite. I'm no expert at all but have you tried one of the other options that work slightly differently? When I was researching this I realised that MJ is a different drug to Ozempic, Wegovy and some others in pill form that are cheaper. I wish you luck @Alabamasunset

Yes I know this.
But it has not suppressed my appetite. Not at all. Not on any of the doses. Not even on 15mg.
It has not made me feel more full when I eat, nor fuller more quickly when I eat. Not at all.
And people need to know this when they are starting out.
They need to know that yes, it might really work for them. But equally, it might not.
It's a lot of money and the problem is that once you're invested but not losing you keep on buying higher doses in the vain hope it will start working if you increase the dose so you spend more and more money going higher and higher in dose to find yourself not losing any weight on it.
Or, you could be lucky and lose weight.
It's a gamble, basically. Not a given. It doesn't just work for everyone.

RhaenysRocks · 27/03/2025 08:56

Well I wish you the best of luck with whatever your next steps are but perhaps this is not the right place for you to continue to post..we are at a different stage to you. Maybe start a thread about MJ ineffective, what next? Then you'll get some more helpful advice.

CurlySue88 · 27/03/2025 13:55

Hi - I am starting my 1st dose on Sunday as I don't work a Monday (in case of side effects). Not sure whether to do morning or evening. I contacted my GP for advice before purchasing as I am currently on Citalopram and HRT medication and was advised everything should be fine

I'm 50, 5'5", 14st, UK16 and looking to get to around 11st which is a good weight for me. I was a size 10/12 until lockdown when I also gave up smoking after 30 years. The weight piled on and although I am very active and play sport 3 times a week and go the gym, I am an emotional binge eater. If I am in the house on my own I will just pick and eat crap.

I am hoping that the suppression and food noise kicks in and I can adjust my habits. I have also heard that it can be a good way to generally quieten the mind and bring clarity so hoping for that too.

Looking forward to hearing how everyone gets on next week. Good luck everyone!

50FootWave · 27/03/2025 15:58

I would love to join you all, please!

I am awaiting approval, then my first delivery, and hopefully beginning on Sat 12 April, after we get back from holiday.

Just catching up on all your stories (so much resonates), but will post a little more later.

Excited/scared/relieved I've made the decision!

Skinni · 27/03/2025 17:08

I need to do this. What are the first steps? Do I need to take photos and supplied weight? I dont have scales - just weigh at Drs or chemist.

I am on high BP & high hcolesterol meds. Anti Deps. HRT and most recently meds for Hypothyroid.
