Mounjaro April 2025 Starters

1000 replies

OpheliaABC · 26/03/2025 19:28

Anyone else starting soon/in April? I've seen there has been lots of threads for new starters for the previous months which looked helpful so I'm starting one too.

Starting weight: 98kg
Goal weight: 75kg

I will be starting either at the end of this week or early next.

I have a huge appetite, lots of cravings for junk food, and I'm hoping to get my portion sizes under control. Three members in my immediate family have now been diagnosed with diabetes and I'd rather not join them.

I'm having full blood work done in a few days to make sure I don't have deficiencies, thyroid problems or overly high blood glucose levels. Trying to give myself a full health MOT but I love my food so it won't be an easy ride. I can only hope this works for me and that my portion sizes will be halved without going hungry as I've seen happen to some people.

Welcome, if you are joining me! 😊

Does anyone have any little targets along the way?? I want to see what I can do and hope to feel a little better in myself by the time I go on holiday in early May 🤞🏻🤞🏻

A new dress from Vinted, every time I go down a dress size 😉

Where is everyone ordering their meds from? Which ones are most reputable?

MedExpress (I'm UK based) - I have a code for £40 off, if you want it PM me.

I ordered it 26th March, received it yesterday morning. My photo was approved almost straight away (clearly no question over whether I was big enough for it 😂).

They're a large company, so I wasn't worried about it being dodgy in some way. And it's cheap too (compared to other places at least). The Wegovy LOOKS cheaper, because the first dose is. But I worked it out over 6 months, and there's almost nothing in it.

And no subscription, so if you don't get on with it, or want to take a break for whatever reason, you can. I really can't fault it tbf.

Edited to say, the two people I know who have been using MJ / Wegovy, both use this site. And they've been on it weeks / months now, with no problems. Which also makes me feel it is a good company.

Half of you will be on your second jab before we even get to April!

Is everyone planning to just respond to their appetite and eat less or to count calories / macros and proactively eat different healthy foods? I suppose I am asking are you taking a passive or active approach?

My current thinking is to take a quite aggressively active approach. I really want to feel in control of my eating and change it for the long term.
I've started tracking this week on NutraCheck, not to count/restrict calories but to gain awareness of my macros. I've been following Zoe for over two years and this has greatly improved the amount of fibre and variety of plants I eat. However, eating more plant-based has led to me losing sight of protein. I've also been surprised at how much saturated fat there is in EVOO or salt in salmon just by tracking for a week.
The first month I'll just see how it feels, but my rough plan at the moment is to use it to support Intermittent Fasting.

Same here, holiday in early May. I guess losing half a stone would be amazing but perhaps a bit unrealistic for me.

I’m almost ready to go out for the day - plan is to go food shopping - try to concentrate on healthy proteins fruit and veg , less crap and treats

Mounraine · 29/03/2025 10:07

I have gone with Oushk @wordywitch . Bit of a delay on the parcel (1st April I think), but I felt there was a steep increase in price with the larger doses.

Doidontimmm · 29/03/2025 10:13

I went with the care pharmacy

Out of interest, if your BMI is over 35 will the GP prescribe?

I’m probably in the minority but I went with Boots. I know it’s more expensive but after speaking to my GP and hearing his opinions I wanted to go with a reputable company that do all the proper checks etc and have good support with qualified medical staff. I might switch down the line if I get on with it ok.

Namerequired · 29/03/2025 10:25

I only started on Tuesday so not having must effects so far tbh. Also not having much side effects thankfully other than a light headache and feeling cold.
The main effect that I think has came from it is I was getting dizzy heads multiple times daily before the jab and that has lessoned, almost stopped. It says it balances your sugar levels so I think that might be it. So I really want to try it for a 2nd month with the higher dose to see if it kicks in properly.

I believe if used for weight loss that GP’s cannot prescribe
They would refer to secondary care Obesity service ( who would look at tablets , injections , surgery etc) to see what would be the best to support
They can prescribe, which means you’d have it for cost of prescription but I imagine it would take a long time to get seen and go through the process ?

That’s what the GP told me.

It's notoriously hard to get prescribed on the NHS, unfortunately. My cousin who went on MJ, couldn't get it, despite being well over 35 BMI and with a fatty liver (she's only 30). Apparently in the area she lives, she would have also needed to have sleep apnea, in order to get a prescription.

MrsCastle · 29/03/2025 11:22

I’ve made a balanced plan diet and am going to put the pic on my fridge of how a balanced plate looks. Definitely going to be proactive and am starting now even though can’t start jabs til next week Tuesday 8th

I'm reading you all with interest

I’m even planning for the finish, extra psychotherapy and support to stop reverting to pattern

got to do this..my poor knees

wordywitch · 29/03/2025 11:22

It seems daft that they want to wait until people have more severe weight related health problems to prescribe it, but that’s the nature of an underfunded system sadly. Very little preventative care, just fire fighting.

friendlycat · 29/03/2025 10:23

No the gp won’t prescribe it afaik as they put you on a 9 month long healthy eating course and not likely prescribe it to you
this is why I went private

Stepfordian · 29/03/2025 12:57

I mentioned it to my GP and he said they don’t prescribe it, they refer to another department (I can’t remember the name) but there wasn’t enough money for everyone who wanted it on the NHS, so only the most severe cases would get it and to not bother wasting my time and go straight to paying privately.

mjaronewbie · 29/03/2025 13:01

I'm starting today. Really nervous- I have diabetes and am 14st. I need to loose at least 3stone. My Diabetes Nurse has encouraged me to try. Am worried about the side effects.

Just wondered if anyone is going to take any supplements or have medications to hand to deal with possible side effects. I have read that marine collagen is good- wondered if anyone was going to try this or anything else? Thanks.

Hope we all smash it!

MedExpress is not accepting my photo and I don’t know what I’m doing wrong! Any tips?

Mounraine · 29/03/2025 13:27

Sorry @wordywitch my photo went through with Oushk no problem.

I watched a video about injecting and feel very nervous. I thought it was more like an epi-pen or CGM.

I just had to send a new one which I did by propping my phone up on the kitchen counter and putting the timer on - just so they could see my whole face and as much of me as possible (it was head to about knees).

This was fine and was approved 24 hours later.

This happened to me first time around. First time, I wore light coloured pyjama bottoms (most of my clothes are black!) and a little black vest top. Rejected.
Second time around I wore the same little vest top and my pants!! It went through ok, presumably because I was wearing less and they could see my body shape better.

JMSA · 29/03/2025 14:13

Hi folks. For anyone who has started, how long did it take for the nausea to pass … if indeed you got it?!
I work with fairly high tariff secondary school kids (love them though ☺️) and really, really can’t take any time off for this. I wouldn’t do that to my colleagues.
Maybe I’ll wait until the Easter holiday to start. But even then, I have a holiday planned so it would be useful to know how long the nausea lasts. No way am I waiting until I get back to start.
