Mounjaro April 2025 Starters

1000 replies

OpheliaABC · 26/03/2025 19:28

Anyone else starting soon/in April? I've seen there has been lots of threads for new starters for the previous months which looked helpful so I'm starting one too.

Starting weight: 98kg
Goal weight: 75kg

I will be starting either at the end of this week or early next.

I have a huge appetite, lots of cravings for junk food, and I'm hoping to get my portion sizes under control. Three members in my immediate family have now been diagnosed with diabetes and I'd rather not join them.

I'm having full blood work done in a few days to make sure I don't have deficiencies, thyroid problems or overly high blood glucose levels. Trying to give myself a full health MOT but I love my food so it won't be an easy ride. I can only hope this works for me and that my portion sizes will be halved without going hungry as I've seen happen to some people.

Welcome, if you are joining me! 😊

Out of interest, if your BMI is over 35 will the GP prescribe?

Not at the moment, the funds available will mean that people with higher bmi and other key composites such as diabetes or cardiac conditions will be prioritised for NHS funded MJ.

Hi folks. For anyone who has started, how long did it take for the nausea to pass … if indeed you got it?!
I work with fairly high tariff secondary school kids (love them though ☺️) and really, really can’t take any time off for this. I wouldn’t do that to my colleagues.
Maybe I’ll wait until the Easter holiday to start. But even then, I have a holiday planned so it would be useful to know how long the nausea lasts. No way am I waiting until I get back to start.

I've been on for 16 weeks now. At no point was any side effect bad enough that I couldn't work normally.

Early on I often had mild nausea, and awful burps. It turns out that's generally when I've not eaten enough so a small snack remedies it.

I had a loose stomach after changing dose from 2.5mg to 3.75mg, it lasted a couple of days, but only once or twice a day. Basically some cramping and a need to go soon, but not scary urgency.

Done tiredness, also when I'd eaten too little.

Occasional constipation at the beginning when I didn't drink enough water (my thirst seemed to switch off alongside hunger initially).

I've moved up doses gradually as I was losing well on low doses. I'm still on 5mg and starting to explore maintenance now as I've lost over 3 stone and exceeded my target.

I've had to lower my thyroxine dose as the MJ seemed to improve thyroid function and I was slightly over replaced. It could just be due to the weight loss but suspect it's more than that.

That's such a helpful post, @HesDeadBenYouCanStopNow thank you.

Mine has arrived. I am leaving it wrapped in its ice pack for now, and will put it in my secret mini fridge in my office later.

MedExpress is not accepting my photo and I don’t know what I’m doing wrong! Any tips?

I wore leggings and a skin tight top, which I rolled up to just under my boobs, and let it all hang out!

It must be the least flattering picture of anyone, ever. But it got approved right away.

I'm starting today. Really nervous- I have diabetes and am 14st. I need to loose at least 3stone. My Diabetes Nurse has encouraged me to try. Am worried about the side effects.

Just wondered if anyone is going to take any supplements or have medications to hand to deal with possible side effects. I have read that marine collagen is good- wondered if anyone was going to try this or anything else? Thanks.

Hope we all smash it!

Don't worry, anything strong enough to actually help you (not just WLI but any medication), will have possible side effects. Lots and lots of people get none, or very few. Absolute worst case, you are one of the unlucky few who do react badly. You'll have a rough few days, but you can stop taking it. It's not forever, if you don't want it to be.

I'm just taking multivitamins, as it seems prudent whilst eating less. If I do develop any side effects, will probably buy remedies, depending on what the issue is. That is, Gavison if I get heartburn, or painkillers if I get headaches. I do wonder though, how many "side effects", are due to people suddenly eating less, or the dehydration from losing a lot of weight, rather than the medicine in and of itself. Bit like so-called "Keto Flu" x

Can I ask please, does the price stay the same, if you stay on the same dose? Or does it go up anyway, just because you've been on it more weeks?

@HesDeadBenYouCanStopNowThat’s helpful, thank you.

Commenting so I can come back to this, I’m starting today I ordered through Asda. I’ve been mulling it over and researching for months and I am really excited and relieved to get started

Same here..my research has just intensified and I can’t find any reason not to do it.

talked to friend and therapist who both started out sceptical but then my reasoning convinced them too!

so I’ve ordered! Except won’t get for another ten days or so 😖

Stepfordian · 29/03/2025 16:01

I’ve just been approved and mine is in the post! I’m a bit worried about the side effects because had HG when I was pregnant, but I’m sure the nausea can’t be as bad as that 🤞🏻

HesDeadBenYouCanStopNow · 29/03/2025 16:25

@QS90no the prices don’t increase if you don’t move up a dose, or at least they don’t for Medexpress who I’ve used throughout. Others have had some success with chopping and changing to find the cheapest suppliers, but my journey has been quite quick and i thought it would be easier to get maintenance doses if i stay with the same supplier. Some wont prescribe if you get into health bmi, but others will continue up to 22.5 bmi

Good luck, I’m the same the more I read the more I think it’s the right decision. I haven’t always been overweight but since a bereavement 3 years ago I’ve put on 4 stone and I just can’t get my act together long enough to lose it. I am SO sick of feeling like crap, the anmount of brain space my weight takes up daily is ins and since I made the decision I feel like I’m actually going to do it. Keep us updated!

This happened to me first time around. First time, I wore light coloured pyjama bottoms (most of my clothes are black!) and a little black vest top. Rejected.
Second time around I wore the same little vest top and my pants!! It went through ok, presumably because I was wearing less and they could see my body shape better.

I’ll try that, thank you. So it doesn’t need to go all the way down to the feet? That’s been difficult, to get all of me in the full length mirror. I also don’t have any light coloured tight trousers so was wearing navy leggings. Might have to just do in undies!

Thanks! I'm with MedExpress too, so that's perfect.

50FootWave · 29/03/2025 16:39

@MrsCastle I can't start until later either, the 13/04, but mine has arrived, and I'll just continue reading, researching and exercising.

50FootWave · 29/03/2025 16:41

@QS90 I'm also with Medexpress 😀

@wordywitch mine was head to knees and that one was fine!

I think that’s what pushed me over the edge. I am so sick of thinking about food, what to eat, what not to eat, when to eat, when not to eat, eating… and so much crying from frustration and shame.

66babe · 29/03/2025 16:52

I did it !
Very straight forward , followed clear instructions and in it went , doesn’t hurt at all
Now sat reading the posts of last months starters for hints and tips

Yes! Why wouldn’t you help yourself. To me it’s like not taking medication that could help you..as long as you understand it’s only part of the support. Just like antidepressants etc - they only can do so much and you have to do the rest

I want to use this process to break the cycle and given the amount of money I’m spending on junk food the cost is a no brainer .

yes defo keep me updated. I can’t remember if you have yours or are waiting?

I'm only a week and a half in and have lost 4lbs.

I started on 12st.10lbs.
I'm pleased with how its going so far. If I feel this good with 4lbs off how will I feel getting to a good BMI? I'm feeling optimistic for the first time in a long time.
Side effects have been slight constipation, then slight runny bum, sleepy in the afternoons and needing to go to bed earlier. That's it though, so nothing too bad at all.
Before I started I did a deep dive into what was making me overweight and I identified it was emotional eating so I've been reading Allen Carrs "How to quit emotional eating" to work through my issues with junk food along side the injections.
I went with Juniper as they have good availability and were quick to respond and send it out to me. I have a referral code if anyone fancies trying them.

Just message me and you get £50.00 off your 1st order.

2025health · 29/03/2025 16:55

@MrsCastlemine arrived today and I’m going to jab in about 15 mins once I’ve worked it out!
