Mounjaro April 2025 Starters

1000 replies

OpheliaABC · 26/03/2025 19:28

Anyone else starting soon/in April? I've seen there has been lots of threads for new starters for the previous months which looked helpful so I'm starting one too.

Starting weight: 98kg
Goal weight: 75kg

I will be starting either at the end of this week or early next.

I have a huge appetite, lots of cravings for junk food, and I'm hoping to get my portion sizes under control. Three members in my immediate family have now been diagnosed with diabetes and I'd rather not join them.

I'm having full blood work done in a few days to make sure I don't have deficiencies, thyroid problems or overly high blood glucose levels. Trying to give myself a full health MOT but I love my food so it won't be an easy ride. I can only hope this works for me and that my portion sizes will be halved without going hungry as I've seen happen to some people.

Welcome, if you are joining me! 😊

I took my first dose on Tuesday night, everything's been great so far- no side effects and definitely has reduced my appetite and food thoughts. I'm actually feeling really positive about it. It seems to be helping my acid reflux too- which is strange as i know indigestion/acid can be a side effect 🤔.
Good luck everyone x

66babe · 27/03/2025 21:09

Have also just completed online consultation with photos provided
awaiting decision , they’ve taken the money already
Slightly anxious but eager to start and see if this helps me

RhaenysRocks · 27/03/2025 22:21

@Alabamasunset hi ..I'm sorry if I offended you. I do understand your perspective and it's not my place or within my power to "tell you" not to post. I suggested, kindly I hope, that you might find it more helpful to look for advice from other non-responders rather than undermining the efforts and confidence of newbies at the start of this process. If it doesn't work for us we'll find that out and no doubt come looking for similar experiences at that point. Again, I do wish you luck.

I took my 1st dose yesterday. Very optimistic. I lost 4 stone last year (not using injectables) but put it all back on. My motivation was zero. So hoping this will build it up again.
The cost is putting me off though!

My cousin (albeit she is very obese), said she more than made the money back, buying less food. Also, she doesn't get that low blood sugar "I need to eat RIGHT NOW" feeling, and waste money buying snacks / meal deals out. So that might mitigate what you're spending a bit.

QS90 · 27/03/2025 22:38

My order is "on it's way" apparently!! May even be tomorrow.

Have been dreaming about starting for a couple of months, but couldn't afford to start before now.

Have successfully lost weight previously through "regular" dieting, then later through keto. It seems impossible with two under fives though - I just don't have the time / energy / money for all the gym classes and salmon fillets it entails. Have high hopes of MJ, having seen AMAZING results in my cousin, and a close friend.

SW 101kg 😶

NZLurker · 28/03/2025 05:16

I'm planning to start on Sunday morning. Nervous but also quite excited. I love savoury things and just really enjoy food, hence I'm about 20 kg/ 3 stone overweight. Only my Dsis knows, haven't told DH as he will likely only worry and over scrutinise for any side effects.👀 Good luck everybody!!

50FootWave · 28/03/2025 07:13

@NZLurker same with my DP. He'll worry.

@66babe also at the same stage! I had to upload another photo as the first was clearly too flattering! They have also taken my money.

Really hoping I get clinical approval today so it arrives next week and I can get it hidden in my office mini-fridge! 😄

Mounraine · 28/03/2025 07:29

My DP is the only person I'm telling. Although I'll probably end up telling my mum. And the woman I sit next to at work.

50FootWave · 28/03/2025 09:28

That made me laugh, @Mounraine! I've only confided in one friend who's already done it (successfully) and has lots of advice.

But good news - I've been approved, and it's on the way 🤗

How is everyone else today?

Mounjarogirl25 · 28/03/2025 10:03

Hi! Can I join please? I've gone with Medicine Marketplace, I registered last Tuesday, sent a video and ID via WhatsApp last Wednesday but only just had a video consultation with a pharmacist this morning so quite a long process. All being well they will approve and dispatch today 🙌. I want to do it on a Sunday so will probably start next Sunday depending on when it arrives.

I have about 6 and a half stone to lose 😫

Skinni · 28/03/2025 11:10

Just uploaded the 3 photos requested by Zava this morning. Ordered and paid for it last night. Hopefully will start Mon (after Mothers Day). I have losts and gained many times but for the last few years havent had the motivation to get beyond reading about a diet. Have read elsewhere that intermittent fasting is easier to do on MJ and is a good habit for sustainability - so I will go with that.

I havent read all the threads on here but wondered if anyone else has and has any top tips as dont need (cant afford) to make mistakes and no need to reinvent the wheel.

The one tip I read about to avoid nausea / supher burps on upping the dose was to fast before and after the injection and avoid protien in that 24hr period.

There was also something about 'bonus doses' ? But cant remember what that was.

HealthAnxietyReallySucks · 28/03/2025 11:14

Mines been approved and on its way too. Think I’ll start it tomorrow or Sunday. It’s so exciting. My friend is down 16lbs already and hasn’t looked back.

50FootWave · 28/03/2025 12:39

Wow, @HealthAnxietyReallySucks , that's amazing to hear about your friend.

Is that in the first month?!

QS90 · 28/03/2025 13:38

Mine has arrived!! I'm sitting here with it, just about to read the instructions and jab 😃

I lost 3 stone with 4 pens. Mind you, my body did not agree with the 7.5mg pen so I had to do clicks to get 3.75mg out. That pen lasted for 8 weeks. I know there is a 30 day limit, but I did not want to waste precious doses and it was absolutely fine with good suppression. With discounts, 3 stone cost me £500.

If someone had said "would you pay £500 to be 3 stone lighter, be a size 12 not size 18, improve my health and self confidence...?" I would do it in a heart beat.

My dad died of diabetes related illnesses after having a quadruple heart bypass, leg amputation and going blind. My health is my wealth.

I started in July 2024 (13st 4) and reached my goal in October (10st 8). I am now 9st 11 (5ft 6 and size 10) and have maintained (or lost 1.5lb per month since finishing MJ).

It worked for me. Good luck April starters!

Did you have any side effects and how do you feel now you’ve finished it? Are you starving all the time or has it changed ged your approach to food?

Stepfordian · 28/03/2025 13:48

I’d like to join you too! I’ve just done my blood test SheMed, I’m waiting to be approved so hopefully will start next week.

I’m starting at 16 stone, I’ve never been less than 13 stone as an adult, I’m tall and heavy build. I’d be happy to get to 12 stone but I’d be delighted with 9 stone, which is the bottom on my healthy BMI. I’m going to start weightlifting too as I’ve read that you can lose a lot of muscle which is what gives people ‘ozempic face’. I’m a bit worried about the side effects but I think it’s worth the risk.

I'm exactly 16 stone too - also tallish. Literally just jabbed 2 minutes ago, so we will see!!

wordywitch · 28/03/2025 14:10

Hello all! I’m hoping to join you in April too.

I’ve been on the fence about WLI for a while but after doing more research I think it’s worth a try. I piled on 20kg in the space of 9 months in 2022/23 due to a medical condition that limits my mobility and a hormonal imbalance. I’ve been trying for over a year to lose weight but have only lost and gained the same 5kg over and over. I eat relatively healthy already but being limited on exercise makes it difficult to lose and I have a sweet tooth. I also tend to overeat when I’m stressed or upset so I’m hoping to change that.

I’ve got an NHS health check on the 7th and assume they will do my BMI, BP, bloods, etc.. which I was thinking I’d wait until I have the results of that to start and also to see if I might qualify for them on the NHS though I think that’s unlikely from what I’ve read? My BMI is currently 34.2 and I have mild hypertension (not medicated) and non-alcoholic fatty liver.

Mounraine · 28/03/2025 14:22

What lifestyle plans does everyone have? Looking at people's food diaries, there seems to be plenty of grazing and sugar going on. I really want this to help with doing the opposite, especially to support my fasting, but can't find much about combing fasting with the jabs.

RhaenysRocks · 28/03/2025 15:49

Got approved today after a video call with Curely online pharmacy. No photos or blood tests required. Really looking forward to starting. I'm hoping that I can start on Sunday. My pharmacist said it doesn't have to kept in the fridge but has an expiry of 30 days if out of 2-8 degree storage. If you're worried about privacy therefore you can keep it elsewhere.

In terms of lifestyle I'm hoping to not have to change much in the way if meals..I already have Weetabix or yoghurt for breakfast, salad or sandwich for lunch. It's after school / work that I struggle to cook something proper and big just have a sandwich.

Stepfordian · 28/03/2025 15:57

I just struggle with portion sizes and snacking, I can eat a huge amount of food before I feel full and I crave sweets and crisps, and once I’ve opened a packet I can’t leave any u eaten, so I’m hoping it will help with the cravings and feeling fuller.

HesDeadBenYouCanStopNow · 28/03/2025 16:37

Alabamasunset · 26/03/2025 20:39

I wouldn't bother starting.
It doesn't work.😞
(I learnt this the very expensive way)

I disagree I've just hit target having lost 3 stone 4lb since beginning of December.

But it doesn't work for some, and some people are super responders.

I know quite a few people in real life on MJ and all are losing weight. However 2 people in )that I know of) the December group left due to side effects. Others are losing slower than I did but steadily

Portion size is one of the biggest impacts at the beginning. Funding that you can't finish your food (I was brought up to clear my plate). My plate/bowl size has gone down twice in the 16 weeks I've been on MJ.

I'm still on 5mg as I'm losing weight at that level so haven't felt the need to increase dose.

I rarely feel hungry now and food noise is almost non existent. However food is still enjoyable and tastes good (although sweet things taste sweeter).

I've found jabbing in my thigh have fewest side effects (I sit down and jab in the flabby bit that sticks out 🤢).

I've got bingo wings but other than that the skins not too lose and baggy (I'm 54).

66babe · 28/03/2025 17:10

@50FootWave I’ve just got home and found I’ve been approved
Can collect tomorrow
Would anyone have some advice for a newbie first timer ?
Thank you in advance 👍🏼

50FootWave · 28/03/2025 17:20

@Stepfordian amazing, that's incredible.

@HesDeadBenYouCanStopNow portion sizes are my weak spot, too. Pasta is the biggest culprit.

In terms of lifestyle change, just forming the habit of smaller portion sizes will be a massive change! I'll keep up the exercise I already do, but need to add some weights sessions. I've been meaning to do this for a while because of the menopause, so this is extra incentive.

Low carb has worked very well for me in the past, so it's not a huge reach to return to this, but to hopefully see it work again will be a confidence boost/motivation.

I'm not great at drinking water, so I'll make that my priority.

Good luck to those starting today/this weekend.
