Hi everyone ☺️
Gosh it's busy on here, it's taken me ages to catch up with the thread!
I'm due to do dose 4 of 2.5mg tomorrow and I'm debating whether to double up with the extra hard twist method or the insulin needles I've ordered.

I'm also wondering whether to jump ship from Asda to Medexpress? I originally went with Asda being a well known name for long term availability but maybe that's not the case.

Well done everyone, lovely supportive thread!

OK, this may seem like a daft question. How does everyone resist weighing themselves daily? I'm autistic with ADHD, and it's something I'm struggling with!

I have manual scales from Argos with the smallest reading window which I can’t see standing up. And I have good eyesight! So my husband has to bend down to read it out! It’s such a pain, but the benefit is that I’m not tempted to weigh myself more than once a week. If you’re interested they’re the cheapest and white.

Moved away from digital scales as was becoming a bit obsessed!

MelissaLouRocks · 05/04/2024 23:18

Lol, sorry to laugh, you've created quite the vision in my head!

Thanks for the recommendation, but my very kind daughter bought me matching smart scales and smart measuring tape that use the same app, and all the details satisfy the nerd in me. 😏

LoadsToLose · 05/04/2024 23:31

haha sorry about the mental image @MelissaLouRocks !! Digital scales are great, I was just obsessing over all the data and for myself, I need this attempt to be a healthy reset and I know weighing daily could risk setting off disordered eating. So I have chosen to weigh once a week (tomorrow AM!).

I also recognise the slimming world weigh day cliff edge someone else mentioned - I definitely tried to game it, eating less on weigh day / delaying dinner til after the weigh in. Eating SW choc bars post weigh in because I was so hungry! Absolutely ridiculous when you stop and think about it eh? This is also an example of how it can trigger unsustainable behaviour/ disorder eating.

I am guessing most of us know what our triggers are for unhelpful behaviours as we’ve all been around the diet block a fair few times!!

MelissaLouRocks · 05/04/2024 23:36

You're totally right of course, I used to deliberately choose an early WW meeting so I was weighed on an empty stomach. Ridiculous the lengths we go to, as probably wasn't an accurate reflection anyway!

Well my nerdy and number obsessed brain has given in and accepted I'll be weighing every day. Maybe that way it will just become the norm along with a different eating lifestyle, rather than the anxiety every week!

I’m on day 10 of 2nd dose of 5mg and it’s only now wearing off. I have been really busy so I don’t know if my appetite has been affected by that (I’ve heard thin people say they were too busy to eat- never understood it)

I’ll take the 3rd dose tomorrow, but it is interesting me, does anyone find they are getting more than 7 days out of a jag?

So have you waited for jab to wear off rather than automatically just doing next jab on day 7?

I am only on day two and worried I am not eating enough, lunch was half a mug of lentil and veg soup and a small cracker and this was at about 3pm.
Dinner was small bowl of bran flakes and banana and I left some.
Now I didn't get to 18 stone eating like this. I can pile away food like you wouldn't believe so this is very strange to me.

I get chips for service users at work on a Friday, I dont have any but the man always gives me a small bag of hot chips which I normally gorge on the way back to work, today I didn't touch them and heated them up for dd after work. I can do this!!!

FlappyFish · 06/04/2024 00:01

I was worried about daily weighing and I’ve posted before. However, it keeps me on track better. If I weighed once a week and it was after not pooing water retention, later I the day and I saw a gain I would freak out and self-sabotage. I know this from an entire lifetime of experience.

As someone up thread said, this way I am learning to read my body. If I gain in a morning for time of the month retention, I know it’s that. I know I cannot gain weight with the way I am eating. Even having my one teeny chocolate honeycomb meal. It isn’t possible when the food noise, rest of the snacking etc is gone.

lurkylurk · 06/04/2024 00:10

MelissaLouRocks · 05/04/2024 21:23

Because I know about water weight, fluctuations etc, but the numbers will drive me mad! I was an accountant and gave that up to do sports therapy, because I never forget numbers and it was driving me mad. I'm aware of how ridiculous this sounds, it's probably only someone with a similar issue who would "get it". I don't just want to exchange food noise for number noise!

And I'd rather have a nice surprise - or not - at the end of the week to reflect the work I've put in.

Christ I sound batshit.

Pretty much end of day one - my legs ache as though I’ve been walking for miles. I’ve a mild headache but have just taken some painkillers for the aching so that won’t last long. I had to have a nap earlier as I had a huge wave of tiredness hit me. I had a normal dinner but haven’t snacked at all which is a miracle! It’s only been a few hours so I’m hopeful that when I get up tomorrow I won’t feel so achy

@guestusername
I had the exact same achiness in the legs, really noticed it as I use a standing desk and had to sit down for a while which I never do. It will go and I didn't have it nearly so much after the second injection either.

So these protein shakes what is the advantage of taking them . Is it that is low cal and will stop you also stop you feeling hungry. Or is it a direct swap in calories for a normal meal? If so what would be the point ? Please can you clarify this for me ?
PS
1.Just as an aside...
electrolytes are a mixture of sugar and salt. So unless you are a marathon runner or a very sweaty Betty would this not be counter productive to the weight loss!! From a pure hydration point of view , wouldnt just sticking two litres of water be more advantageous?

  1. On the constipation.....this is part of the way MJ works in ensuring that our digestion is slower and therefore the stuff takes longer to pass through our systems. So I would not suggest taking any harsh laxative to speed things up toooo fast. The Aloe Vera which is much more gentle on the body, should only be taken every other day. That would push things along but slooooowly!

The advantage of these shakes for me personally is they help me reach my protein levels. I'm vegetarian.
Without something high protein such as a shake or the water I am nowhere near the levels I should be.

I have never eaten breakfast as I just don't feel hungry. I have one of these shakes around breakfast time to reach my levels easier. Then have 2 normal meals a day.

Rainbowl · 05/04/2024 22:13

I’ve heard this before. I drink far too much Diet Coke and I know it goes hand in hand with my sugar addiction. So, since starting MJ I have made a conscious effort to cut down on Diet Coke and eventually I’m planning to give it up altogether.

Love my soda stream for fizzy water though! Is that guilt free?!

@Rainbowl
I love fizzy water rather than still too and as far as insulin responses go, yes it is guilt-free. It is however more acidic than still water so not so great for your tooth enamel!

Thank god there's more than one of us!

I live in quite a small cul-de-sac, but always full of cars. You need to drive to the end, turn, then park. Kids used to challenge me I couldn't remember the number plates, and when we'd parked made me sit in the car and recite them with my eyes closed. Never, ever got one wrong.

I've found my kindred spirit. 😁

lurkylurk · 05/04/2024 17:10

@angeltop As it's medication you're usually advised to bring your prescription or the box showing your prescription details too, in case they want to see it.

Ah, that’s what I’m afraid of, questions……

I got sore achy legs for a couple days after all 3 jabs so far.
Had a vaccine yesterday and that combined with TOTM has me absolutely wiped today. Up late as DS1 was picking DH up from work and they didn't get back until after midnight. I did have a nap after dinner though. Came to bed as I was yawning and now I can't sleep.
Off out for our anniversary tomorrow and I'm so not in the mood, but hopefully will perk up tomorrow.

@angeltop
You're unlikely to get any, it's just another tube of liquid in with any other bits and bobs in your liquids bag, and if you do get any it's a valid medication that has been prescribed to you, the only issue would be if the people you are travelling with would then have questions! But very unlikely to even come up.

Given that it was Easter weekend, I was away last week and it's my TOTM, I'm really pleased.I took my second dose yesterday, and haven't had any side effects so far.

I used to be completely addicted to Diet Coke, but now avoid any diet drinks (and drinks with sweeteners). Before MJ I would have lots of sparkling water and add a tiny bit of Belvoir cordial if I wanted more flavour. I also drink Kombucha. I haven't been able to face either this week, and am just drinking loads of plain water, my skin is loving it!

user1471503652 · 06/04/2024 07:33

Wondering if anyone who's with Med Express can help with reordering... I'm on wk 3 of 2.5mg and today is the earliest day I can reorder. Was looking to up my dose to 5

If I click 'quick reorder' it remembers all my medical info, so just need to update weight info. But it says starting dose of 2.5 and you're only able to put in a BMI over 30 so whilst I could do this now, it's not future proof when I drop into overweight category.

Or do I do a new order selecting 5mg, not using the quick reorder option? It does say on the original order confirmation that they will email over a reminder when it's time to reorder so maybe I'll just wait for that?

If that makes any sense at all!

JanetSnakeholeMacklin · 06/04/2024 07:36

Yay @plinter - well done!!

This thread has been busy, it will be time for a new one soon!

Last night I was at MIL's and she had a buffet dinner thing on. There really wasn't anything v healthy at it (all fried beige things and crisps). I had a couple of bits of breaded chicken, one tiny bite size sausage roll and a slice of garlic baguette. I would have preferred eating none of it but I didn't feel like I could have got away with that without questions or comments! I also thought that because I ate only a little, I'd be fine. Wrong. I have a sore stomach, feel sick and have the absolute opposite of constipation.

Will definitely not be eating high fat beige crap again!!! 🤢

ObsidianTree · 06/04/2024 07:56

@user1471503652 maybe just do a new order and select 5mg initially?

Morning @ObsidianTree
I know you were saying you're struggling to get enough protein in. I ordered this beef marrow bone broth powder, I tried it last night and it's lovely, like a beefy stock almost.

They also do an unflavoured one you can add to got or cold drinks, meals etc. Again it's a small company that doesn't fill it's products with crap.

I weighed in this morning too, I've been feeling like my weight is fluctuating a lot so I've stayed off the scales for the last couple of weeks, but I'm averaging a good 2lb loss a week. This is week 6 of mounjaro.
