Why can’t you weigh yourself daily? It’s allowed! Just remember you’re likely to see fluctuations.

OK, this may seem like a daft question. How does everyone resist weighing themselves daily? I'm autistic with ADHD, and it's something I'm struggling with!

I've put my scales behind my bathroom cupboard!

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 05/04/2024 21:19

Some great weight losses on here today. Well done everyone.

@MelissaLouRocks I weigh every morning. Can't help myself 😄. Occasionally it goes up but I just ignore that and don't record it on my fitness pal.

I have ADHD too and the temptation is definitely there. After giving in to the urge for the first week I tell myself on repeat that the longer I wait between weighing the bigger the losses will be and the more motivating that is.

ObsidianTree · 05/04/2024 21:22

@MelissaLouRocks I gave in trying to resist a while ago! I weigh everyday! Lol! I feel like this diet is different as even if you don't like what you see on the scales, you aren't going to self sabotage and eat your weight in choc! It's not possible 🤣

Because I know about water weight, fluctuations etc, but the numbers will drive me mad! I was an accountant and gave that up to do sports therapy, because I never forget numbers and it was driving me mad. I'm aware of how ridiculous this sounds, it's probably only someone with a similar issue who would "get it". I don't just want to exchange food noise for number noise!

And I'd rather have a nice surprise - or not - at the end of the week to reflect the work I've put in.

Christ I sound batshit.

Pretty much end of day one - my legs ache as though I’ve been walking for miles. I’ve a mild headache but have just taken some painkillers for the aching so that won’t last long. I had to have a nap earlier as I had a huge wave of tiredness hit me. I had a normal dinner but haven’t snacked at all which is a miracle! It’s only been a few hours so I’m hopeful that when I get up tomorrow I won’t feel so achy

@MelissaLouRocks

We don't all resist it and I'm sure I'm not the only one. For me, it's more curiosity than anything else!

MelissaLouRocks · 05/04/2024 21:31

Well as I weighed yesterday and today, but only started Monday, I may as well update!

SW 196.6lbs (BMI 32)
CW 193.2lbs
GW 160lbs (will work from there)

Stickthatupyourdojo · 05/04/2024 21:40

@MelissaLouRocks I'm autistic and I can't keep off the scales Blush losing weight/eating well was my big focus/interest for me around 8 years ago and I maintained for a good while but I eventually lost interest in that and here I am. I am hoping to keep up the interest again this time, and not let myself slip so badly if my interest does start to wane.

Rainbowl · 05/04/2024 21:41

I’m a daily weigher too @MelissaLouRocks

Noom actually encourages daily weighing. This is from their website:

Regular weigh-ins are a key part of the Noom program and a proven and effective tool for weight loss.
The effectiveness of weigh-ins isn’t just about the number on the scale — it’s about subtle changes in psychology. Eating more usually doesn’t have a short-term consequence, but when you know that you’ll see it on the scale in a few days, you’re much more likely to stick to your goals. It’s like having a small voice inside your head reminding you of the goal you’re working towards.
To make your weigh-ins most effective and to minimize variability, weigh yourself in the morning 15-30 minutes after waking up and before eating or drinking.
We recommend weighing in daily. That way, stepping on the scale will become less intimidating and will become part of your daily routine. Please keep in mind that your weight can fluctuate from one day to the next, so keep an eye on the trends and the bigger picture, and don’t focus too much on day-to-day fluctuations.

RagzRebooted · 05/04/2024 21:42

I weigh daily, I like to see the general trend and would rather know than happen to weigh in on a day where I was higher for some reason. The app I use makes a nice graph.
Weighing helps me stay on track. I always gain weight when I stop weighing myself (or rather, I stop weighing myself when I know I'm not eating well).

Nice to know it's not just me! If I could get the numbers out of my head that would be great, but that's just the way my mind is I guess. I don't even have a food tracker, everything worked out mentally and stays in my head, it's just bloody weird. I may just have to accept it is what it is!!

Question while I wait for 1st delivery and write my shopping list - are fizzy drinks manageable for people? Or would it make you full/bloated/gassy?

Big fan of a coke zero for the caffeine as I don't like coffee and have young kids!

I’ve internationally started drinking diet lemonade. It makes my belly feel nice and full when I’m sitting not eating on an evening :)

JanetSnakeholeMacklin · 05/04/2024 21:52

I can't weigh every day, or I'd weigh 5 times a day and scrutinise everything to the nth degree. I feel that for me to keep an eye on it once a week is best for me, but I absolutely understand weighing every day too.

MelissaLouRocks · 05/04/2024 21:59

So, if I do weigh every day, when should I report in? The day I jab?

AgathaMystery · 05/04/2024 22:07

Be careful with diet drinks.

This is a really basic explanation (only coz it’s late & I CBA) but when that sweet taste hits you, your pancreas doesn’t initially know it’s sugar free etc. so you still get an insulin dump like you would if it were full of sugar. Diet drinks do us no favours in weight loss.

I was taught this by my old boss, an eminent endocrine professor who knows all the things about this sort of stuff.

I’ve heard this before. I drink far too much Diet Coke and I know it goes hand in hand with my sugar addiction. So, since starting MJ I have made a conscious effort to cut down on Diet Coke and eventually I’m planning to give it up altogether.

Love my soda stream for fizzy water though! Is that guilt free?!

Yes, and apparently has just the same effect of sugar in making you want to consume more. I was a diet Coke addict for a long time, and those years were when the weight really started to pile on. I won't go near a fizzy drink now unless it's water, and avoid artificial sweeteners like the plague.

PT’s I’ve worked with recommend weighing daily. You really get to know yourself and it avoids the angst of a weekly weigh day. I weigh daily.

I weigh daily. Stops me doing any of that old slimming world ‘oh it’s weigh day and now I can have a treat’ nonsense, which I am really a veteran of 😉
