Bridesmaids and nipple covers

I have 3 bridesmaids, all with the same ‘multiway’ dress. They look lovely but the fabric is so thin and clingy that without using the bandeau that comes with the dresses we have 6 nipples on show through the fabric. They understandably would rather not wear the bandeau if possible as it makes them look a bit frumpy/matronly and they’re all early 20’s with lovely figures. We’ve tried some of the tiny nipple covers but the only problem is now that you can’t see the nipples you can see the nipple covers!
Is boob tape an option to just tape the nipples down?! Or do we need some other type of nipple covers? Hit me up with your recommendations or ideas ladies please?

I would ask each individual bridesmaid how she plans to style her dress and what bra/support she needs based on her individual wishes, body and comfort level. Then plan from there. There's no point planning a cross body back if you don't want the back of the bra on display and the bridesmaid is going to wear a bra.

Amara123 · 31/03/2024 12:31

I think you can do better dress wise. I feel like multiway were really popular a decade ago, they kind of came in so bridesmaids of different body shapes could have the same colour. They aren't that flattering tho. If you want to give the bridesmaids some latitude about style but have the same colour, that's cool. ASOS have lots of good affordable options.

Oh my god, get them different dresses, no-one wants their nips on show all day!

This

Inappropriate for a wedding, especially young bridesmaids.

We’re not ‘bothered’ as such, it’s just we don’t want nipples to be the obvious draw of the eye in the photos

Could they wear the bandeau during the actual wedding and for the photos, then remove them for the rest of the day?

OP, my brother is a wedding photographer. If the appearance of the dresses in the photos is a priority for you then do not use multi way dresses. They photograph dreadfully and go see-through under flash.

A cardigan.

I'm old fashioned though! 😂

So am I old-fashioned.

What about a nice vest, OP? *. You can get lovely ones from Damart. Princess Diana used to wear them though I admit I never saw her wearing one under a see-through dress.

Like others, though, I think a strapless bra may be the answer.

(They want to think themselves lucky that Liberty bodices aren't still a "thing". We oldies went through purgatory with them. All those rubber buttons.. . )

pavedwithgoodintentions · 31/03/2024 12:51

I'm sorry, but the dresses are really unflattering in the pictures where they're being worn, ie uneven boobs, boobs look like they're in cradles, etc

I would look for some multi-way bras that have really low back straps are allow you to cross them over, bras with clear straps, etc. Or call it a day, cut your losses and find some less cheap dresses. Maybe you can return or sell them on?

clary · 31/03/2024 12:59

I agree with everyone that in the pic where the BMs have got their arms in the air, none of them looks great tbh (and "arms in the air" is for sure going to be when these dresses look best tbh). The woman with the red hair is stunning but the dress does nothing for her and if that were me I would feel very uncomfortable. The other three don't look great, boob-wise.

OP if your BMs are literally young, super slim and have tiny boobs then these dresses would be OK (My dd is 22 and very petite and she would be able to wear this I think) so then there are great ideas on here about tape and sewn-in bras; otherwise if anyone is more than a size 10 or frankly older than about 25 then I would pick some more flattering dresses, if that is possible? If they are all similar size anyway as your posts suggest, there is no big need for the multiway?

Why buy those dresses then.

What's wrong with nipples showing?

There's a heck of a lot of judgement about their choice of dress. As long as everyone is happy then crack on I say.

I use this micropore for a lot of things, mostly protecting my pathetically soft feet from ripping apart in anything harder than sketchers. Being micorpore it's very soft and thin and should be able to cover smoothly without being too obvious.

What's wrong with nipples showing?

The faux naivety.

YouJustDoYou · 31/03/2024 13:33

Those are utter inpractible dresses

FinalNameChange · 31/03/2024 13:46

My overarching memory of a cousin's wedding was the 3 bridesmaids' breasts on show in this style of dress. I can't remember what the bride's dress looked like, when she and her bridesmaids walked in it was the main thing that registered.
Thank goodness they were all young, slim and had perky B-C cups.

pinkyredrose · 31/03/2024 13:47

RampantIvy · 31/03/2024 13:31

The faux naivety.

I'm really not displaying faux naivety, I can assure you of that.

I see it as similar to armpit hair in that it's just not a problem if it shows, it's the natural form of the human body.

What exactly do you think could happen if nipples are visible?

BananaLambo · 31/03/2024 13:48

Surely if they’re sheer enough to see nips you’re going to see their breasts through the fabric. Would that not look really tacky? I’d definitely line them in some way or get them to wear a slip of some sort. Can you see their knickers too?

pinkyredrose · 31/03/2024 13:18

What's wrong with nipples showing?

Shape - fine
Visible nipples - it's a bit tacky for a wedding and ideally needs a jacket or cardigan so they're only visible when the BM is comfortable, which at a wedding will probably be never
Plus these are going to be heavily photographed so why make the BM's feel uncomfortable

Starzinsky · 31/03/2024 14:08

Not a great dress choice. How many people would wear a totally backless dress though choice with all the obvious bra practicality issues. Is it too late to return for something else.

Bunnycat101 · 31/03/2024 14:24

From looking at more of the photos on the website, there are some where you can see nipples in the lighter colours. They are generally photographing much better for those wearing the bandeau (and presumably a bra underneath) or on the flat chested. There are plenty where a bra would have made the difference. Overall though most of the bridesmaids do look lovely in the pictures so don’t be made to feel guilty about the dress choice. I’m sure you can make it work with some of the suggestions given already.

MaisieMacabe · 31/03/2024 14:33

I saw a picture of a group of bridesmaids in these dresses, the other day, in the grey. It's a very clingy fabric Indeed and you'd have to be very body confident to wear such an unforgiving item. It certainly draws the eye!

InfiniteGoodVibes · 31/03/2024 14:42

Multiway dresses are a bit dated now. I had a lovely one back in 2010 ish. It was sand coloured but really good fabric so flattering all over, supportive and concealing where needed.

The ones you have chosen are cheap and therefore impractical for their purpose. I suppose it is a case of paying for what you get. If possible, I would rethink the dresses because any bra or nipple cover will show and cheapen look even further.

LumpyPumpkin · 31/03/2024 15:07

My bridesmaids had these dresses. You absolutely need to wear a bra with them. I would either pick a different way to wear the dress or get them different dresses.

pinkyredrose · 31/03/2024 13:18

What's wrong with nipples showing?

I have nip piercings and even I know that there is a time and place for them to show. A wedding is not the place.

babyproblems · 31/03/2024 15:38

Boob tape not just nipple covers. Boob tape you wear like an actual bra.
If they are large boobed then they will need more support than nipple covers! I couldn’t wear just nipple covers and I’d be mortified without either a lot of boob tape or a bra or corset / body sort of thing.

Justgorgeous · 31/03/2024 16:33

Must be a very thin fabric. What is it ?
